To that last one: This very case shows that even qilins can be influenced by magic. Isn't it suspicious to the people that the one Grindelwald brought bowed before him and the one Dumbledore brought bowed before him (at least at first)? Also bowing to Dumbledore shows qilins choose from everybody, not just the actual candidates, but after Dumbledore tells his qilin to choose someone else, it goes straight to one of the candidates. As a rival candidate, I would argue how convenient this is and that Dumbldore's qilin could also be under magical influence, and I wouldn't accept the results. Yet nobody raises an eyebrow.
@PhilBagels
@PhilBagels 2 года назад
And how did anyone ever figure out what a qilin bow means in the first place? A group of a dozen magizoologists comes across a critter. They decide to name it "qilin" and it bows to some of them, but not to others. OK. So what does this bow mean? If it bowed to me and no one else, I might well tell everyone that it means I'm pure of heart. How could they possibly disprove it? And BTW, being pure of heart doesn't automatically mean that you're the best choice for Supreme Mugwump. You're going to also need some brains and some courage and some leadership skills to actually get anything done.

****HERE'S MY ANSWER TO HAVING MULTIPLE PLANS WORKING AT THE SAME TIME TO FOOL GRINDLEWALD**** (It's a full wizarding world theory, and I hope carlin brothers see this. It is: ....... ‣ First thing that a person can not always predict the future, there are many, many possible future, dumbledore mentions this in either oop or in hbp while talking to harry that many of the predictions and prophecies whose record is kept in the ministry, don't actually come true. Also when newt describes the demiguis (I may've spelled it wrong), he says that they can see the MOST PROBABLE near future events. If you combine both of these, we can come to the conclusion that in this fictional wizarding world, at any given time, there are many possible futures/outcomes (and as far into the future a sear will go, this number of future possibilities will increase to even millions of possibilities) and a good sear must select the most probable one, and if any less probable one is selected, it may never come true, like many of the prophecies in the ministry. Also, one thing to keep in mind is that it is all just probabilities, it may also happen that in some cases, due to some reasons, the most probable one may not happen, but the less probable one may just happen (I mean that even the less probable one is also probable, well bcz. ... you know... it is less PROBABLE). So it is actually quite complicated even for a sear to predict the right future. ‣ Also, it is not always possible to see any near or far future event which the sear wants. Like if was ever possible to see any future all the times, then grindlewald would've seen the outcome of dueling with dumbledore (talking about the final duel), and hence would've never done it. Similarly, he would've just seen that credence wouldn't be able to defeat dumbledore, infact he will join him and will go against grindlewald in his last moments, and hence he wouldn't have spent so much time in trying to find him then recruit him, then train him to defeat dumbledore. Also, if it was possible to see any future which the sear wants to see, then no sear would ever make any mistake in their life, and would top in every single thing, from tests and exams, to big decisions related to their lives. There can be just so many proofs for this, such as dumbledore could've went to an actual good sear in gof, too see what all these signs are referring to, and will harry be safe in the tournament, and also, grindlewald would've known that the mother quilin will give birth to 2 quilins in the future, and not only one, and also he would've known that if he attacked credence in front of dumbledore, he (grindlewald) will lose his ultimate protection against dumbledore (i.e. the blood pact), and there can be thousands of other such proofs as well which prove this point. ‣ One more thing to keep in mind is that it may also happen that the sear may see something of the future but may not exactly understand what he's seeing. This is something which J proved in his trelawney video, you can see the proof in that video. So, even though grindlewald is considered an extremely intelligent, and skilled sear, but again dumbledore is only playing with possibilities, and it is possible to fool even the greatest of minds sometimes (especially considering the fact that dumbledore was an ex best friend of grindlewald, and knew him very well, and was better than him). ....... These are some of the reasons I can think and prove for why having multiple plans, all running at the same time, may help in fooling, and ultimately defeating grindlewald.

While I fully agree with the whole phrase, it’s not a good reason for, you know, NOT make a good plan. To me, the whole point of the Manticore pit was to add another "Fantastic Beast" because otherwise, there's only 1 (the Quilin) in an entire movie whose "main" title is "Fantastic Beasts" (albeit is super tiny at this point). That is the entire purpose of the Manticore pit.

I've consumed enough of both good and bad fiction and I've never seen pure of heart be depicted as a mix of bad and good, because that defies what it means to be pure of heart. Pure meaning that you are completely of one thing. That said I have seen it depicted as people can change over time and one who was once not pure of heart can evolve as a person and become pure of heart over time and the opposite can happen too where someone pure of heart can devolve and lose their way and become impure of heart. Honestly my interpretation of this series is that people can change and one who was once not pure of heart can become such and the opposite can happen too.

There is actually a brilliant way this movie could have been made on the premise that Grindelwald can see the future. You have to take actions that Grindelwald doesn't THINK influence the future but actually do. That way, by the time the final moment comes around it's already too late. Make Grindelwald think he is derailing the plan when he is actually missing the point. This could even build over time, making him get more and more angry as the future he sees keeps resulting in his loss. It also could have been a brilliant moment to use muggles or those who Grindelwald sees as weak to bring the plan to fruition. It uses Grindelwald's prejudices against him and shows the viewers and the wizarding world how Grindelwald's claims hold no weight.

I remember when Sherlock had their Reichenback Falls episode, and it was a mystery how Sherlock survived. The internet was alive with speculations and theories on how he lived. The next episode came out, and they just didn’t answer it. They actually trolled the fans by showing theories and explaining how they wouldn’t work. In the end, the writers didn’t know how he survived, so nothing was clever at all. The lack of cleverness in mysteries and heist stories is one of the worst plot sins. It needs to be clever! That’s the point! It can’t just be nonsense.

Great Video. I disagree with one point though: The other briefcases being Muggle made instead of using magical duplicates. I see why you consider this weird or a plothole, but isn't there a spell to literally end other magical spells/enchantments in the Wizarding World? I guess going with real duplicates instead of magical ones solves the issue of Grindelwald and his helpers just using that spell to eliminate the fake briefcases from the equation. If they see someone with the briefcase that spell would make it pretty easy for them to expose a fake. Using a "real fake" instead of a magical one prevents this from happening...

@calebpurvis6195 2 года назад
On the flip side, who cares. In the movie they open each case and discover the contents (that honestly could simply be the real case in muggle-mode). They perform no magical tests, granted the group might have simply prepared in case they did. However the result is the same either way. Cast a disspell, or open the case, either way they know it's a fake and now that case is out of the running.
@K1abauter
@K1abauter 2 года назад
@@calebpurvis6195 The "Who cares" argument could literally be made about all the "plot holes" they found if we are being honest. So it's not really a good argument in the discussion is it? As for the result being the same: No. To counteract a spell you need the counterspell in this case the one breaking the duplication. So if they use them the logical consequence would be that the duplicates disappear altogether or go back to being whatever they were made from. So you would essentially do one spell and end all fakes. Additionally you need to have the briefcase to open it you just need to be in reach of it with magic to do magic against it. So either way the Muggle made duplicates are far more complicated for Grindelwalds men to handle.

It's not necessarily about making the future unpredictable, they are giving Grindelwald interesting and impactful things to worry about, when the real plan is set in motion at a regular muggle leatherworker. When that part is ready all they have to do is once again make it unclear where the real suitcase is by being as flashy and noticeable as possible, while the one member remaining hidden simply walks up and hands it over. It's quite simple sleight of hand misdirect, making the audience focus on what you want them to look at.

Also for me it was very easy to guess that Bunty was the one with the true case. She's given a special message from Dumbledore that the others arnt allowed to see. When everyone portkeys away there's a moment where Bunty is alone in the RoR and they linger on her before she portkeys away. Throughout the chase scene at the end they never show her, placing her as seperate from the rest. @@ChienaAvtzon That is my favorite part about this movie, and the only thing that feels fully realized throughout the whole thing. The little interaction between Dumbledore and Jacob making Newt think he knows which case the Qilin is in is so well played, and I love the way that Newt immediately leaps to grab that case once Dumbledore leaves. It actually made me think that Dumbledore knew what he was doing because of course Newt would want to be the one with the Qilin, so making him think he has it provides a much better distraction for Bunty, who is a much less obvious target.

It is just portrayed the best in the Room of Requirement, with how each character reacts to playing Three-Card Monte with the cases. Jacob explains the game. Dumbledore cons Newt into taking a specific case. Theseus figures out Newt is being conned. Bunty hints that she has the real case. Lally only wishes Bunty luck, despite Theseus still being in the room.

About the case duplication mission: I think it actually makes (some) sense. Should Grindelwald happen to see this exact moment of Bunty visiting the shop there are quite a few questions he can ask himself: what kind of shop is this, what is she doing? Why does she visit a muggle shop in the first place? Can her mission not be done by magic and if so why? (Should he see the decoys) Are the muggle cases special? Is there something he doesnt know about muggle cases? Are they going to enchant them later? Wasnt that completely unnecessary? What is the purpose of decoy-cases? Whereas duplicating the cases by magic only raises the last question. It simply adds a bit of mystery. True most questions are easy to answer/ not that important but it is something Grindelwald has to consider non the less, hence (hopefully) confusion.

He jumped off the mountain, thus, he was no longer "on" the mountain and the "non-apperating space" is "on top" of the mountain. 2nd, I suspect the "manticore scene" was there for one reason. The tentacle that was released into hogwarts lake. Its clearly alive, the question is, what does it grow into? My suspicion is it grows into the "giant squid". 3rd, Grindy's henchmen didnt "bottleneck" at the entrance to the mountain for 1 reason, politics. They couldnt be seen as obstructing entrance to anyone to the election. It would look bad for grindy, and cause a scene. Finally, the future sight that grindy has, is brief glimpses at POSSIBLE futures. Meaning, the future isnt written yet.

If you have a villain who can only see SOME of the future you get results from using chaos similar to tricking a Legilimens. * The side quests going into Muggle territory isn’t just adding confusing links to the potential future outcomes, it’s obscuring who’s a powerful player and who isn’t. Dumbly loves Muggles, Grindy hates them. He’s ramming his lover-to-enemy’s pressure points to show Gellert that he means to stop him and once and for all, they never had the same motives or goals. He cathartically washes his hands of Gellert throughout the plan. * Theseus WAS on the inside of a different part of the enemy’s camp after being arrested, before being imprisoned in the Erkstag. This is Dumbledore making sure of the “wizard king’s” actual allegiance to Grindelwald. Dumbledore learned by Theseus getting imprisoned that Vogel was fully corrupted and irredeemable. He also learned how to better plan for the ascendancy day in Bhutan, what to put in the cases etc. * Who we think is Bunty at the final case reveal should’ve been Tina agreed 1000%. But not get rid of Bunty. Having a 7th unseen person as part of a case ruse is classic heist plotting. * Bunty getting Muggle made cases is crucial for making Gellert seethe, if he spots that part of the plan. He’s easier to fool the less logical and more emotional he gets. The emotional bond they share messes with the two foes’ Occlumency in both directions. Not using a duplication charm had nothing to do with the creatures inside. Dumbledore just wants every part of the plan to scream “Muggles are alright with me!” * Between plan A and plan B is where the blood pact really starts to make Dumbly lose hope and get sorta sloppy. Props to Joann for making Albus really consistent on this character flaw through all the portrayals. Anything about elegant and efficient magic solutions is shoved to the back of his mind, as he strains to maintain the commitment to protecting both magical and non-magical worlds from his ex. He doesn’t want to fight any more until he just has to. By then, the pact “knows” it’s broken. * Kama scene drove me crazy too. It’s so obvious by stage blocking that he’s still a good guy 🙄 * Qilin choice nonsense: a Qilin is supposed to portend a great leader, not just the best of a bad lot that election year. Further proof that the viewers know Vogel is crooked but the other wizard council don’t by the point he convinced them to allow GG to stand.

when it comes to the future, one future is never really set. especially with a plan like that, at least its a few different futures Grindelwald could have seen. It also depends on how much details of the future he can see and how much of it. He apparates away, but when he does he's kind of outside the plateau when he does and can be why he could if we go that deep into it. I do agree with most of it tho, but its also important to find the reasons for why stuff is happening to enjoy it :D
@christianrose9166
@christianrose9166 2 года назад
The problem with the whole "possible futures" idea is that we have confirmation that time is linear in Harry Potter as early as Prisoner of Azkaban. Going back in time doesn't change the present, and attempting to change the future seen by a Seer by taking actions in the present only leads you to that future. That's how time-based magics (including the future-sight of Seers) function in the Wizarding World. Any point seen is a point set, and nothing can change it. And I swear, if you say anything about The Cursed Child... Well, then I won't be able to take you seriously at all. That's practically fan-fic writing quality, and flies in the face of everything the Harry Potter series teaches the readers about magic in the Wizarding World. Nothing to say about the apparating bit, there's some inconsistencies with how apparation and disapparation works in the Wizarding World. Thus, I can't agree or disagree with anything stated about that. Good point, though.

@@christianrose9166 This isn't quite accurate. I think there's a quote from Dumbledore where he rhetorically asks if Harry thinks that all the prophecies in the Department of Mysteries have come true, implying that many haven't. So time isn't completely fixed, and what is seen can be averted. It just follows the old Greek prophecy style, where believing and behaving as if the prophecy is true will make it come true. Like Oedipus, if he was raised in court with two loving parents, would never have found himself at the crossroads to kill the stranger that he only later knew as his father, and to marry a woman he only later knew as his mother. It's only because his parents threw him out into the wild to die as a baby that the prophecy could come true. I still don't like the possible futures explanation, though, because we've never had someone have a vision of two separate futures. That is more my issue. A better way to phrase the idea is just that they need to create a vision of the future that Grindelwald sees and pursues, believing that it shows him winning. If Grindelwald were to see himself obtaining the case, for instance, having two cases means that the future can proceed exactly as is seen by Grindelwald and the good guys can still succeed. In that way, the only way for Grindelwald to lose is for him to unknowing choose to follow his own downfall. You wouldn't have to change much to interpret things that way, so it does come across as clunky writing using the possible futures interpretation.

It helps to sway votes in a massive way, but after the fake Qilin bows to Grindelwald, some people still voted for "team yellow". Forgot her name. And I think it could have been the plan to be a target with the other suitcases to incapacitate as much of Grindelwalds followers as possible. It wasn't a great movie and the plot is badly implemented, but if you don't care too much it's watchable. And this statement is unfortunatly true for most movies of the last years...

5) As much as many hate the Cursed Child, it does show future is difficult to predict despite seeing certain actions, no one seems to have the full answer to what actually happens in the end. Also, Dumbledore said in Prison of Azkaban, there is a chance more than one life can be saved. Exactly, a chance, not a certainty. 4) I agree, seemed like the movie was filling the 'show a magic beast quota' 3) Maybe it should have been Tina. Duplication spell could have been detected by other wizards like Grindelwald and his followers. Doing the suitcase creation the muggle way was essential. 2) The 'plan' itself (randomness) wasn't that bad in itself, but the execution was poor by both sides (Newt + the rest of the crew & Grindelwald's followers). Grindelwald apparated from the air though not the stairs. Kama's agent role was a risky play by Dumbledore. But then again wasn't Snape's role too a bit risky if you think about it? I wish we got an explanation to why Dumbledore thought Kama wouldn't turn. Dumbledore seems to be a good judge of character, but still we need an explanation for this (we got an excellent explanation in Deathly Hallows II why Snape did what he did, which explained why he never turned back to Voldie's side). 1) Letting Grindelwald run as a candidate, not really an issue. It is very possible that Dumbledore somehow knew/predicted that Grindelwald and his followers would perhaps try to assasinate the other candidates. That makes sense since that's what evil dictators (e.g. Grindelwald) tend to want to do, eliminate the competition instead of beating them fair and square. Qilin plot was poorly explained but the pieces were probably there to explain it better. Btw being pure of heart does not mean that the same person can't be flawed, like Dumbledore. So the Qilin bowing before Dumbledore makes sense. He is pure of heart and a good leader, despite his flaws. So in conclusion, yes there are plot holes and poorly explained things, but it wasn't as bad as the video suggests.

I just want the full explanation for why Jacob could see hogwarts. We all know hogwarts a history says he shouldn't be able to. He should only see ruins.
@Nina_kindimherzen
@Nina_kindimherzen 2 года назад
At the end of the second movie, Jacob seems quite confused about where they are, when they stood in front of Hogwarts. I think that he could see it later because he knew about it. As soon as he enters the castle, he somehow understands it and is able to see it. In "history of Hogwarts" they don't mention this because they simply don't know. Never has a muggle entered the castle and knew about it. I don't know if this is true, I haven't any evidence for it, but for me it seems logical. I mean, we all know the situation where we don't see something, just because we aren't aware it exists. But as soon as someone points it out it seems so obvious.

@@adriebaby4137 yes, that's an even easyer answer. But i thaught that for sure some muggles went in the ruins some time, but couldn't see the real Hogwarts anyway. @rowan3682
@rowan3682 2 года назад
Hogwarts appearing as ruins is part of the many magical protections to keep Muggles away. This would include spells that make the area seem...uninteresting to Muggles. A place they don't bother to notice, like Diagon Alley. And probably spells that actively repel Muggles, like making them feel overwhelming anxiety or fear when they try to enter. Or making them confused or disoriented when they go nearby, putting them in some kind of trance that makes them leave the area. There's a lot of different stuff wizards can and do use to keep muggles out of places they aren't supposed to be. But one thing we do see in the books is what happens when a muggle does enter a space they "can't see" - Hermione's parents in Diagon Alley. To me, this supports the idea that the repellant charms are more for preventing entrance altogether rather than obscuring reality entirely from every Muggle who might venture in. And really, there's situations where Muggles would need to be permitted entrance to Hogwarts. If their child is competing in the Triwizard Tournament, if they want to visit their child in the hospital wing, if they need to identify their child's body, etc. It would be highly impractical, possibly even dangerous, if they weren't able to see the real building and people on these occasions.
@Nina_kindimherzen
@Nina_kindimherzen 2 года назад
@@rowan3682 Exactly. That supports my idea of "you can see it if you know about it", because all those people (parents) are muggles that are somehow involved in the wizarding world and will learn about the place (st. mungos, diogon alley, hogwarts...) before they get there.

I guess the part of the 'plan' that actually worked - to Albus' amazement - was the qilin unexpectedly bowing to him, making Grindy (and Vogel!) a fool of himself in front of everybody. Grindy is quite intelligent, he would figure any plan out, anyway - should he have the time for that. WB shouldn't have cut the scene where Theseus is taking care of Newt and the qilin - it kind of explains to what the qilin actually kneels to. The biggest plot hole was in fact 'getting hold' of a qilin: shouldn't Newt, as a magizoologist, be assigned by the International Confederation of Wizards to safely find and bring an extremely rare, newly-born qilin, to the election in Buthan? If so, Newt was totally unprotected and what happened to him in China was a crime - he almost died - not to mention that the qilin was stolen. In the deleted scene, Theseus asks Newt what he was doing with the qilin - even being an Auror and knowing about the election, for Theseus the qilin was some sort of secret and he (and anybody else) didn't take any action against Newt's aggressors... Even Vogel pretended he didn't know anything or meet Albus...

Ok, something that is really bothering me that NOBODY seems to have pointed out, Bunty has the suitcase place make SIX cases, meaning a total of 7 cases(6 fake and 1 real). Yet, we only ever see 5. 3 were opened by Gindlewald's people and were traps, 1 carried by Newt just...evaporated or whatever, which made no sense on its own, and the 5th carried by Bunty and had the Qilin in it. This leaves 2 suitcases completely unaccounted for. Even if when she said 6, she actually meant she wanted to have 6 total, including the original(but that is not how she phrased it...), even THEN, there is still one case unaccounted for. Honestly, the whole movie felt like it was written by someone who mixed up Dumbledore and Grindlewald, and thought Dumbledore was the one who could see the future so had him make an extremely strange and complex plan, especially for the whole portkey tie bs.
