in this video, I compare and discuss my top 5 favorite pocket throwers (Nextorch T10L, Sofirn IF22a, Convoy M2, Wurkkos FC12, Speras M4). Although there are lots of throwy flashlights out there, I tend to carry around these 5 most often and have found them useful for walks and general use. Before you buy yourself a long-range flashlight, make sure you watch this video so that you make the right choice.
I will go through the difference in features and prices between various models and the three technologies used to obtain long-distance performance (reflector, TIR, LEP).

Hey, great ! Can't wait to see your review/comparisons of the FC12 as well !👍

Right on, thank you for your support man! You'll like that FC12 - very compact little thrower (deep reflector).

The FC12 is an excellent little light with long throw and no huge head. The IF22A is my favorite thrower. Sometimes, I put a short tube on my FC12 & run an 18350 in it. It makes the light much more compact, but you still have the same light output, just less runtime.
@DarrenYeoYT
@DarrenYeoYT Год назад
Need to get myself one of those short tubes! I tried to swap one from another light but no luck. You can use a tailspring bypass on your IF22a to boost lumens :)

👍 Good stuff man. Would like to see a showdown between the FC12 and newer SC31T- *Pro* for everyday practical use.
@odin7192
@odin7192 Год назад
yes ! I'd like to see that compareson too, I have chosen the FC 12 for the tac mode and the further throw with its 30%+candelas, and it was lightly cheaper too, but I'm very curious to see the floud/thow compromise on the SC31T Pro and modes/performance compareson...

@@odin7192 Exactly. I live in a not so great area and I'd like to come out of the house and be able to pinpoint things across the street while also having a good amount of spill around me. I have a TS21 but I'm not thrilled with it. I don't know how the TS22 would fair in this application since it's mostly flood. I have a Convoy S2+ with 519A and OP reflector. Great flood light but it doesn't quite have enough pinpoint lighting. The FC12 and SC31T Pro seem to be the reasonably priced choices. There may be more but I'm not aware of them.
@DarrenYeoYT
@DarrenYeoYT Год назад
Noted! I'll have to get my hands on one. The FC12 would throw an extra 60-100m based on candela ratings. But the SC31T will have a smoother beam profile, floody. Many people prefer that sort of beam profile but I prioritise throw so I can see up ahead.
@DarrenYeoYT
@DarrenYeoYT Год назад
I reckon get the FC12 as it has better throw - noticeably better than all my other SST40 lights, even ones with larger reflectors. Another option is getting one fo the smaller convoy hosts like the S2 or S2+ with an SFT40. I say they'd perform similar to the FC12 but with no tactical mode or onboard charging unfortunately.
@peskypeet
@peskypeet Год назад
@@DarrenYeoYT There is another, but it could probably be considered at the higher end of budget lights. That would be the Thrunite TN12 *Pro* with the SFT-40.

The beam on the Convoy M2 looks so clean! Does the bezel create any artefacts?
@DarrenYeoYT
@DarrenYeoYT Год назад
Hi mate, yes it's perfectly focused. I noted that previous versions of the M2 had some ugly ring artefacts. I think the gasket behind the reflector has been changed out. There is a very light right outside of the main spill/spot beam - I think caused by the SS bezel. It's not noticeable. Thank you for watching.

@@DarrenYeoYT Thank you for your response. I'm planning to swap the emitter on my S2+ for a W2 (Cslpm1) since this is my EDC and I live in a city with a lot of light pollution and the 519A 5000K isn't that great outside with all the light pollution. Do you know if the shorty (18350) tube from the S2+ fits the M2?

my thrunite TN12 pro i got for 30 dollars on Amazon prime day, put out 1900 lumens and 380m throw. 5 inches long and body is slighty bigger than the 18650!

@@DarrenYeoYT Hello! I don't have any specific use, I'm just an enthusiast. I'm thinking something up to USD 50.00 Btw, do you recommend the GT Nano as an option?
@DarrenYeoYT
@DarrenYeoYT Год назад
@@rogerandrade806 there's two main types of lights - ones that are designed for long range use, and ones that are more floody (short range). The GT nano is a long range light but has limited use in my opinion! Short battery life and it will probably reduce in brightness quickly due to size. I recently got an Acebeam Pokelit AA (gray) - has around 100m range and reasonably floody. Takes 14500 and AA cells. might be something to consider. I personally prefer tactical thrower lights to carry with me - lately my favourite is the Acebeam P16 and the Nitecore MH12SE. -Darren

I like the Speras M4, but I’m wondering what carrying it is like with the wider face… Have you edc’d this one?
@DarrenYeoYT
@DarrenYeoYT 11 месяцев назад
Yeah I have and I find it awkward, but doable in a jeans pocket. I prefer lights with the same diameter all the way through.
@DarrenYeoYT
@DarrenYeoYT 11 месяцев назад
Also, the button of the M4 can be accidentally pressed in your pocket easily so I unscrew the tube a little.

Which is the best edc self defense light out of all of these?

Probably none of these if you're thinking self-defence. I'd get maybe the nextorch TA30Cmax - has a lot of bulk and high output, crenulated bezel.

WRONG---------the Sorfin 22 from factory is 697 meters throw, reality is tested at 730 meters THROW, many RU-vid videos and website show the THROW, no offense, but get the stats right please!
@DarrenYeoYT
@DarrenYeoYT Год назад
I find that you need to subtract 100+ metres anyway at the end of the day due to atmospheric conditions, and that even though light may reach 700m, you won't be able to see it with the naked eye anyway. Cheers.
@FlashBro-r4w
@FlashBro-r4w 10 месяцев назад
Yeah that makes more sense. The more focused the beam (higher candela) the more particulates block visibility to as far as what the naked eye can pick up.
