I flopped the nuts straight in a heads up game a few years back....My opponent started messing with his Oreos and I knew I had him.... The dude went fuckin crazy when I won, I think he was Russian or something I could't really understand him....
Went to the tables for the first time the other night. I surprised myself and picked up some tells. Well only when they were strong. No tells about when they were weak. The game moves so fast.
Actually, if the guy to your left grabs chips out of order while you are getting ready to bet it is the STRONGEST MOST RELIABLE tell that he is WEAK. I always DOUBLE my bet when they try to prevent you from betting by acting like they are going to raise you. Caro says this is the MOST reliable tell for weakness there is.
He was born and raised in Romania until 10 or something like that. In some interviews he said that he is Romanian he was raised in Canada but he is still Romanian...
NO YOU WOULD NOT...HE HAS 2 TESLAS IN HIS GARAGE AND KEEPS HIS RV AT THE CASINO FOR NAPS AND STAYING FRESH...AND HE GAMBLES WITH OTHERS MONEY PLAY THE GAME YOU CAN BEAT NOT THE GAME YOU WOULD LIKE TO BEAT...SEPT 1997 PLAYED IN A $7.50\$15.00 GAME IN MEMPHIS THAT PHIL HELMUTH AND TOM McVOY GOT STARTED UNTIL TOURNEY BEGAN...LOST EVERYTHING ,LEARNED ABOUT GAME SELECTION THAT NIGHT,BETTER TO WIN A MATCH STICK THAN TO LOSE THE LUMBER YARD
I really agree with you on that one twind04- but there are people who do reverse tells to trick their opponents. Its all relative to the situation and the person.
You can practice these as a poker dealer without risking any money. I make reads on players all the time. Nothing has helped my poker game more than the combination of receiving coaching and dealing poker.
yes he does! he even talked about it before I remember it. but I think he's a genius nonetheless because if I remember correctly he twitches intentionally when he has good cards too. that way people won't be able to use it against him.
Daniel: "How is the weather?" Other player: "I don't know Daniel, we're inside a casino playing poker for 6 hours straight." * Daniel folds royal flush *
I liked the one with splashing the chips on the table...So true! but lets face it ...the only thing you can rely on are betting patterns.. the rest is for the movies.
David is just a good guy who runs good and manages money well. That is the secret to being the best kids. Hold onto your winnings and invest in smart plays off the table. Do not follow in my shoes. Often you can learn from somebody who has lost as much as you can learn from somebody who has won.
Anybody have any suggestions for preventing my hands from trembling? It happens when I'm stone cold bluffing or have the nuts. I used to never have this problem until after I went on a 6 month poker hiatus. Now I shake so much that I drop chips whenever I have the nuts. Dries up ALL my action. My chip shuffling sucks and I don't really want to learn that skill. And I don't really like bluffing unless I'm card dead.
Good list, but I sort of disagree with #4. A lot of times guys will do the early chip grab when they see you go to bet as a way to scare you into checking because they are weak. Look to see if they are making overt gestures to try and make sure you see them. They are often trying to intimidate you.
I agree with daniel on all of them, however number 4 can work both ways. there's people who sometimes are weak and grab their chips early because they don't want you to bet. it is very common when playing agasint very inexperienced players. But again, you can also find people who really do it unconcious, this is where they are really strong and are very desperate to bet. Another tell is whenever opponents grab the chips with most value. this represents a strong hand.
But how would you really know? Your opponent could have said that as a bluff in hopes of making everyone else question the strength of their own hand in comparison and muck what they've got.
haha, and I thought I was going to win the poker lottery with this secret #1 tell of his! bah keep sportin' hockey jerseys during TV poker matches Daniel :D
I always do # 4 deliberately when I don't want someone to raise. When it comes to them, I'll start reaching for my chips and playing with them, getting them out. A few times it has stopped them from raising and they just call. :) Not all the time. Some people just don't care and will bet their J 3 with an A K 3 on the board anyways. Maddening
Haha, I do the same thing. If I just want to see another card or I want to check down, I will grab some chips and start to count them out. Sometimes it works, sometime not
Both 100% Romanian parents, but he was born and raised in Canada. So he's got Romanian blood flowing through his veins, but speaks English with a Canadian accent.
As with everything in poker, there's more to it than that. What you're looking for is unconscious reactions. Someone who obviously looks at their chips is a different story. Tells are not something you should play on when you first sit down. You should watch players and see what they do. Over time you can pick things up that will help in later pots. It's similar to watching patterns in play, and a lot more difficult to master.
