The most poserish things: 1) If you actually like the Black album. 2) If you like anything like Slipknot or Korn. 3) If you only wear your battle vest or Metal shirts to concerts. 4) You only listen to commercial Metal. 5) You judge the production quality over the songs.
Production quality....typical mistake mixing up production with the mix. Transilvanian hunger has GREAT production. It's exactly what the band wanted and it endures. The MIX is something else entirely
Nicke Andersson was incredibly important for the death metal scene in Stockholm, and as such in Sweden in general. Without a driving force like that dude a whole scene can fizzle out and die before it gets started at all. And listening to what all the OG dudes say about him, that's just what he did, lit a fire in the scene making it possible to become what it is today. Gotta look beyond the music a bit when it comes to people sometimes.

I think the biggest 'poser' related thing in the modern metal scene, to me, is Spotify (or just digital only music collections/distribution). I am SO tired of the push for digital only music. I want my CDs and vinyls GODDAMMIT!!
That shit happened a long time ago, even though hardcore was always influenced by metal a lot of people into hardcore would say they didn't like metal.

I wouldn't call Burzum's ambient stuff "selling out". Dark ambient/Dungeon synth is an underground and non-commercial form of music that has never been trendy and Burzum albums have always had these elements.

Shit, Pestilence "Spheres" is amazing imo. He doesn't even like Nocturnus though... or the amazing Demilich "Nespithe" which I think is a masterpiece. Dude has a definite vision though... the Morgue "Artgore" re-release they just did was all him and that is an obscure gem I am personally glad they backed. Also, his love of Cock & Ball Torture and Disgorge Mex always respected him for. I used to have to break the bank to get those bands releases and shirts from American Line. Total respect.
Consuming Impulse is one best death metal albums ever. 1st 3 cool some of the later ones Are ok. Obituary is cool. I think they still putting out all right stuff cause of death and slowly we rot classic albums. And one thing I can definitely say about them is they never really changed their sound. But it is a matter of opinion.

I am a *Pestilence* fan. I can see why some only like the first 2 and even I am not a huge *"Spheres"* fan but I do like everything else. The later prog/tech death metal stuff is awesome. Hey, we all aren't going to always like the same bands.🤘😃
I own testimony of the ancients and I love that album ! I like spheres if I come across it I’ll probably purchase. I may have to revisit the first two albums again
I never really understood why that album gets slack it is really a good album. At the time there were bands like Atheist and Cynic doing the same kind of stuff. And I love those bands.

Face it j-dawg, you just don't like slow death metal, I personally think none of those bands are boring. Also maellus maleficarum kills seven churches because the drums can barely keep up on seven churches. One more thing, I think the brutal death metal debate seems to be about what you consider to be third generation death metal is brutal death metal to other people, everything before seems to be just normal death metal aside from maybe suffocation, maybe other people should chime in just to get to the root of it.
Cmon J-Dawg Obituary and SFU are nowhere near deserving of that dishonour, they at least kept their general sound. I'd also like to point out that a band that changes their sound isn't automatically a poser or a sellout. I wouldn't call Black Metal bands making dark folk or dark ambient/dungeon synth albums or a band like Opeth making progressive rock albums "selling out" because these are not commercial/trendy forms of music and these stylistic shifts are within these artists' "musical aesthetic".
