Today marks two years exactly with my 2014 Dodge avenger. I am currently the second owner and have recently experienced about two of these issues. The first one was my alternator. Just as you explained in the video, my battery died due to a bad alternator. Fortunately, I was able to get another battery within my warranty. However, the alternator I did have to purchase and replace on my own. Total cost for that was about $250. Labor done by me. The second issue I had was the throttlebody. turns out all it needed was a good cleaning which cost me about eight dollars. Yes, I took the throttlebody out for the cleaning process. So far, I’m fortunate enough to not have experienced the other issues. In the name of Jesus I pray that this car continues to take me from place to place.
Dude same. I have one of the final 2014 3.6l V6 SXT models and I love it. Solid, no major issues now approaching 150k miles. Haha as far as minor issues, my blower motor did go out though! I replaced it. The new motor was inexpensive.
Same, mine went out at about 196k. Other than the power steering being stiff and a couple of actuators clicking, I’ve had no major problems. I bought it new in 2014 and love my daily driver.
The avengers suck!!!!! Have had to replace an alternator, starter, coils plugs, MULTIPLE THERMOSTAT HOUSINGS…. Not to mention the countless failed thermostats right out of the box…. I literally just replaced the whole housing assembly and have triggered a p0128 because the NEW THERMOSTAT failed. Plus the countless electrical issues. The main fuse box location gets destroyed in the engine bay. I would rather drive a Prius
2013 2.4L SXT - Bought it in 2015 with 45K miles, currently at 203K. No major issues, just normal DIY replacements (thermostat, ignition coils, alternator, brakes and rotors). Paid off a couple of years ago and has been a good reliable daily driver.
These issues are relatively minor compared to things that would cause a catastrophic failure to the engine or transmission. Seems like a solid runner to me.
I've had my 2014 avenger for over 2 years now and it's been very good to me. Only had to do the basics like brakes and rotors. Replaced a hub that's only major thing.
I've had mine since brand new 2014 and it has 120k miles and only thing that has gone bad is the heater core which developed a leak. And it has a short in the turn signal switch wiring which causes the dome lights to come on occasionally. I "fixed" that by turning the dimmer switch to half way position. Other than that and replacing battery after 6 years which is to be expected, it runs great. Normal maintenance is key though. I change the oil & filter at 3000-3500 miles. I replaced the transmission fluid at 120k miles like the manual says to. Good car overall. No regrets buying it.
Mines at 78k already had overheating because of thermostat so I changed it and now maybe most likely bad alternator but need to check the battery first haha the alternator costs over $300 😅
@@rengoku6450 yeah the OEM alternator is trash and horridly expensive to get a good replacement but it’s worth it! My replacement alternator has been churning for 10 years now.
2008 Avenger checking in. Had the alternator, throttle body, and the engine coils. Luckily once you replace the trash OEM parts with decent METAL aftermarket parts the car is decently bullet proof. Definitely don’t enjoy driving it, but for $11k plus around $1k in parts for repairs it’s been pretty good to me for the past 12 years and counting.
Why would you drive a car you don't enjoy?? I have a 2013 Avenger, purchased with 13K miles and have done nothing but brakes to it! It just now needs the leak detection pump replaced.
@@michaelebirch6722 if that is emission leak pump it is so easy to change and cheap! I had 3-4 codes that grew to 8. When inspection time came I replaced this and all codes disappeared, car ran better too.
I love my 2008 sxt avenger, I been working on easy stuff to make it sound and perform a little better like, air intake, cat back exhaust system and an after market grill and it looks super cool! Can I ask why don’t you enjoy it?
Great video, describes perfectly what is happening with my car- the throttle body as well as the thermostat. I was trying to find a connection between the two issues
2012 SXT - 266,000 miles - original owner - I’ve changed a lot of things - including everything you’ve mentioned - but the coils is my reoccurring problem - right now nothing seems to fix the misfiring in cylinder 4 - only thing I haven’t changed yet is the injectors. May try that next- or just try change coil again - in case the new one is just faulty - I’m checking out videos for tips first
2012 so far with like 110k on it, running alright in Alaska. Replaced a heater core, alternator and batt, along with a serpentine belt. So far it's alright had it since 94k. Love how it handles the winters, I mean except when the heater core clogged, after replacing getting some 150° heat out of it 👏. Would recommend changing coolant though stuff gets cruddy
Still have my avenger.. I've replaced a Blown head gasket, alternator, intake manifold, ac compressor, rack and pinion, thermostat housing and more. the engine is a beast tho..
2013, owned it since 18,000 miles, currently has 193,000. Engine oil cooler assembly, alternator, did all 4 hubs (didn’t need to do all of them, did them because one needed to be replaced), blower motor actuator, power window motor in passenger side. Power mirrors recently stopped working. Fuse? I now have an front end issue, front right excessive wear. I got all 4 new tires and rotation. I did not rotate them like I should of.. Have not looked into the slight noise front end issue yet. Cars sagging, need to do struts soon. But overall, a pretty good car 😂
Yes! Bought my 2014 in 2016 and I’ve never had to put my hand in the engine, just to change the oils .. otherwise a great car ! Thanks for the heads up so well said !
I've had my 2013 Dodge Avenger for about 10 years (a little more) and I love the thing tbh... only major repairs I've done is the starter 1x the alternator 3x and the thermostat 1x. It's my daily driver that I take everywhere and it's been good to me tbh..almost 190k on it
Iv had so many issues with this car its insane, i tried to change my variable valve timing solenoids but i couldnt even remove the sensors off cause they were melted on. So i dont know what to do
I have a 14 sxt that I bought used. Only thing I replaced so far is the alternator. That was about 2 yrs ago ( had the car for 4 yrs). Recently the evap canister needs replacing. Other than that, really like the car. Over 122 thousand miles.
I'd get rid of my avenger immediately if it wasn't already paid off. This video is spot on. It looks like I'll have to be replacing all of the mentioned parts one at a time. The car was discontinued for a reason.
Spot on. Have 2011 avenger. Got it years ago with 50k miles, has 185k now. So far had to replace the alternator and thermostat twice. Been trying to diagnose the improper idle which looks like the throttle body. Other than that it’s been very reliable even after a couple minor collisions. Took em like a champ and is running strong
Thanks Video was simple, to the point and saves everyone time. Question anyone can help me: I have a 2013 Dodge Avenger SE 2.4L . I love the car just that it takes time to get up to speed , I know it’s not a sports car but I have a mini van that takes of faster , the communication between the gas and response time is at least 8 seconds. It’s very slow to get on freeway. Once it’s on the freeway at 60 it can easily go to 70 . Is there a solution? Or it’s manufacture defect?
Mine is a 2010 and you're right its not fast. Its gearing ratios. But I just drove mine 770ish miles on a tank and a third. About 70 bucks. So I can't complain. But I do yearn for the manual trans. The auto needs another gear
Have has my Avenger 2012 for 8 years now….NO PROBLEMS…I do get regular oil changes but keep the mileage down…..my car has 41000 miles on it…..runs great …looks great..
Just had to replace the alternator on my 2013 Avenger SXT at 147,000 miles. Throttle body was replaced about a year ago. Otherwise, the car is a dependable daily driver - can't complain.
Thank you! I took my car to the dealership to see if they could find out what’s wrong with my blower motor and they didn’t even tell me the problem, the guy just came back and told me it would cost me 400$ to order and replace the part. It just needed clearing out
If youre stuck in face melt speed, usually resistor. If it doesn't come on at all, usually blower motor went out. This based of experience but as always check for power , ground , connectors etc.
Own a 2013 avenger and replaced the throttle body, thermostat/water pump, and coils/plugs. Nail on the head about these cars. Had mine for 50k miles got it at 40k about to cross the big 100
2014 here with 120k miles. Only had to replace a leaking heater core. Normal maintenance like oil and plugs. Been really good to me. Just changed tranny fluid at 120k too.
Had my avenger 2009 avenger sxt 2.4 L back in of August 2020 had 135 k and got rid of it around October 2022 had 199k on it. The problems I had was that ticking noise from the ac, alternator went out 2021 160k something miles on it my spark plugs was somewhere around that as well car could stutter as I would drive & had to replace control arm brakes surprisingly it wasn’t a bad car it had 199k almost 200k when I got rid of it I was thinking about getting another one I went to Atlanta from Michigan that car never stalled on me accept for that alternator I’m thinking about buying one with low miles 🙏
My coolant is leaking car not running hot the hand just moved pass the temp gauge but go back down do I need a new water pump, have yo put coolant in like every 3 days
I have a 2010 avenger 2.4. The biggest issue I had up until now was it went into limp mode back in 2015. I had to take off the throttle body and clean it with some brake cleaner and a wire brush. Good as new. Now I have a slow leak I think coming from the tranmission cooling lines.
What I did was removed the throttle body. Then I took break cleaner and sprayed the carbon build up that was inside the throttle body. What didnt come off from the spray I scrubbed with a wire brush. Kept repeating the process until it was as clean as it would get. Then put the throttle body back on. Done...
I have a 2014 dodge avenger Just replaced my alternator at 180k and my thermostat at 175k!!! Currently at 200k!!!!! Still original timing chain lol love my car but can’t wait til I rebuild the engine myself ❤❤❤
Is this strictly issues for the 2.4? I've also heard issues of the door blend actuator. The 3.6 is what I have and it's a great engine. Also the transmission in both aren't really great.
Exactly at the same problems thinking that if I just replace one thermostat and the car was still overheating later I found out by watching another RU-vid video that the Avenger has two thermostats youth replace both of them also I had to replace two or three hoses on this car that exploded because of the thermostats acting up
Had my dodge avenger 2014 for two year at 178,000. And it is officially done for. I could replace the battery, alternator, and the spark plug to fix it but someone decided to rob my car parts out of it. Wires are gone, my radio is gone, they broke my dash, and they took my spare parts even tho they were completely broken. The car was fine while it lasted though it was giving me issues in the past breaking down every 1,000 miles.
I’ve had my 2014 dodge avenger for about 4 years and except for the first 6 months to a year it’s been nothing but problems that I can’t seem to get diagnosed and fixed properly. I wish I had done better research on this car before buying it but to be honest I had been without a car for a year and jumped into buying it. It’s all paid off and if I can ever get someone who can fix it properly, it might not be such a bad car, only has around 90k miles on it and when I got it I think it had 85-87k miles on it. (I work from home and drive very very little). I’ve been tempted to trade it in just so I don’t have to deal with the hassle, but I don’t want to take on another auto loan so stuck with it I am. I love the body style but everything else seems to be crap. I don’t think I’ll ever buy another dodge again.
My top 5 list is different than this one. We have a 2009 Avenger SXT 2.4L with 205,000 miles on it. 1 - Cracked Head (warranty) 2 - Blown head gasket due to stripping of bolts into engine block necessitating complete engine replacement (warranty) 3 - Failed intake runner (warranty) 4 - Failed rollover valve. Causes car to stall when tank is filled all the way up. 5 - Frame rusting apart.
im really surprised head gasket isn't on here, its an expensive fix and has happened to every avenger owner I have met, including me. after replacing a lot it has treated me well though.
My sister has a 2013 Avenger. So far, ive replaced the coils, spark plugs, radiator fans, blower motor, blower motor capacitor, 2 of the 3 blender actuators. Replaced the thermostat 5 times, the thermostat housing twice, and just replaced the head gasket 3 weeks ago. Replaced the cv axles and struts twice so far as well. Luckily for her, im a good brother, and didnt charge her a penny... just replacing the head gasket is around $1,500 in labor alone.
Just verifying. My first one was a 2009 2.4L, throttle body went out twice in 6 years, both front wheel bearings, and thermostat leaked. Now I have a 2011 3.6L Lux and I've had to replace the crankshaft sensor twice (it doesn't show a code as it goes bad intermittently leaving you on the side of the road broke down with no clue why, unless you're knowledgeable about this problem. I replaced the sparkplugs and the ignition coils before realizing the actual problem. Should be in the top 5 in my opinion.
You missed one very common as I see on internet: the transmisión stuck in limp mode (or entering in limp some times other not, but mostly when warm) because of a bad pcm, shows the errors p0700-p0760 but changing the solenoid pack or speed sensors donˋt solve it, only changing the pcm and programming it. I don’t know what causes this, but happened to mine after 10 years an 80k km. I opened the old pcm and looks like they used very bad components for thermal transfer, so the pcm heats more and puts a lot of stress on smd components making them to fail.
Sounds like what mine does , fires right up sometimes & runs great until it gets close to op temp then it goes into some limp mode where there’s only 3 trans speeds & it runs 58-60 mph @ 3,000 rpm but will not shift into overdrive. Complete pain in the rear!
I have a 2012 Avenger that has 2 thermostats that had to be replaced at around 60,000km. Drained the anti-freeze twice so far (Car currently has 110,000km) and had to replace the hoses once. It seems this car has a defective engine coolant system which requires the anti-freeze to be replaced every 30,000km. FCA refuses to acknowledge this issue. Besides that it's a great car.
I have a 2010 avenger r/t and it's been great except I'm having this temperature light now. I replaced that hard plastic housing outlet along with the two thermostats about 2 months ago. Now I just started to hear a bubbling noise from that area. After reading about the faulty part from your posting. Do you have any advice so I can try fixing it myself.
Umm when he was describing the thermostat he failed to mention that the 2.4 DOHC has (2) thermostats. And if u have an overheating problem be sure sure to change both to avoid damage to your motor or future overheating problems.
2008 avenger r/t, with 240,000 miles. I’ve had to replace a failed fuel injector and that’s it other than normal diy replacements. And the battery last year but it was the original battery and it lasted 14 years.
I’ve got a 2008 sxt with 181k miles and (knock on wood) the only issue I am having is with the windshield wipers. They work for a good 5 wipes then they are glitching and or stopping. I’ve already replaced the motor, that clearly wasn’t the issue. And then the usual check engine light but that reads for an 02 sensor and something else that’s very minor
I've had my 2013 Avenger since...2013 and it's only needed Tires, an alternator, battery, a sensor, and brakes (knock on wood). Oh yeah and the headrests popped out but that's all dodges and I just got a letter that they're covering the repair under a recall. May need new shocks soon, but not too shabby for 8 years of wear
My 2012 blew motor at 56,000 miles right after oil change at Vavoline, I drove car since brand new loved that car always changed oil, I think Vavoline screwed up somewhere makes me sick.
I had a 2014 dodge avenger until today. It ran to 140,000 miles. I was expecting to get to 200,000 miles and it didnt make it. About a month ago, i took it on a long road trip, came home, parked over night, and the next morning noticed a rough idle on the way to work. At lunch the check engine light came on. I took it to a mechanic who replaced all the coils and spark plugs, but it still threw a cylinder 5 misfire. He thinks my avenger had carbon buildup on the cylinder 5 exhaust valve. I dont know. Last night i realized valvoline started telling me at 75k miles to replace the fuel filter. I don't know if i did or not. But the engine problem got worse over the last month as i finalized buying a new car. Today was my last day to own my favorite car. I really wish it had made it to 200k. I changed the oil every 4000-5000 miles. I used regular gas. Things i do differently are getting midgrade gas, using a fuel cleaner, replacing the fuel filter, and going back to 3k mile oil changes. It was a very good car for me until the engine went out. Shes gone too soon. Im now a toyota rav 4 owner. Bye to my little zoom zoom avenger.
2013 Avenger 96k The plastic t that holds the radiator cap blew up. Literally. Mixer motors for the AC click intermittently. One already replaced but the other two click as well. EVAP leak that we have yet to locate. Suspicious of the filler neck since it wables. I think the alternator is giving up the ghost too. Chrysler products in general suck (parents have a 2013 grand caravan). Couldn't pay me to own another.
I have a 2013 Dodge avenger. The problem that I am having is the speedometer but not all of it just part of it. The speed has stopped working so I no longer know how fast time traveling the front headlights have stopped working and the horn has stopped working. I still have tail lights and back blinkers, but not in the front.
I have a 2008 and when I’m sitting there the the overheat gauge goes up but when I put the heat on it jump back down what can be the problem... by watching this video I would say it number 2
One day driving my avenger from the store and it starts shutting down on me, I had a full tank, battery healthy, and fresh oil change. After a couple min it started back up but I noticed the RPM idle going up and down alittle, I’m going to be trying to take out The throttle body and cleaning to see if that’s the problem🤔
I had the same issue two times but for me it was the Crank sensor, and both times it was the same thing... it is pretty common on these cars by what I see..
2008 Avenger in the past 4 years (im 3rd owner) replaced a radiator ($118 new) coolant T-filler $38), thermostat housing in 2021 & again this Oct. 23 (the plastic housing melted n warped), valve cover gasket, oil sensor $28, shifter cable grommet ( $23 online part), turn signal assembly ($40 aftermarket), front n rear engine mounts + transmission mounts ( $200 parts n labor local mechanic)... All of these things done over the last 4-5 years and some as preventive maintenance. The previous owner did zero maintenance... I've replaced door switches, side mirror, center console rest, trunk actuator w parts obtained cheaply from the local ecology. wrecking yard. It sounds like a lot, but done little by little over the last 4-5 years it was well worth the $1200 paid for the car used. At 240k Miles it drives straight, runs nice on the freeway, doesn't smoke or leak any fluids and hopefully will pass smog today. California Sporty Senior
Was really hoping u wld have an answer for the problem we are having with my sons Avenger.. the starter will just randomly engage while driving down the road… we have replaced the starter twice, replaced the ignition switch, replaced ignition coils, replaced alternator as well as changed spark plus and a general tune up.. our mechanic is stumped.. and I have a hard time paying our local dealer $250 an hr just to look at it with a minimum of 2hrs..
I have had my avenger from 60k to 123k, I still have it and I have replaced the throttle body, the thermostat housing and both thermostats, the oil pan, leaking hoses from radiator, plugs, and now I'm having alignment issues. The car is close to its end of life, so I will keep running it. Overall its been a pain in the a-- to deal with!
I have water going to my engine and can’t seem to find the problem. I thought it might be the oil filter housing but my 2012 dodge avenger se 2.4 doesn’t require one. What else could be the problem?
2014 Dodge Avenger here My issues I've had with it: Had to replace Crankshaft Position Sensor Had to replace Camshaft Position Sensor Had to replace Water Pump Had to replace Radiator Hose Had to replace Coolant Temperature Sensor It's also doing the blower motor thing now The thermostat may also be bad, according to what is happening to the temperature Hopefully I can get a new car soon 😅
My mom has a 2012 avenger and it keeps dying on her and we have taken it to 3 different shops and they really can't find the reason for it someone said it could be the radio it's not a stock radio so could that be the reason we are just lost for what it could be
I know this is an older video. But I have an issue with mine. 2008 avenger 2.4L sxt. Crank but no start. This is what I have done 4 new coils, 4 new plugs, new cam and crank sensor, new alternator x2, only 2 hard codes showing. Which are wheel speed sensor, and icm-ecm I've dumped 1300 into it in 4 days and still not resolved. Any help?
I’ve been looking everywhere to try and see where the throttle body was located and nothing was able to help me lucky I found you. I also have a question... would I need a jack to get under the car to access the IAC valve and replace it or would I be able to do it from under the hood? I have this car and it goes up and down while in idle, it’s even completely stalled out but only when I have the AC on
+Lilly Araceli Thanks for checking us out! The IAC valve is typically located directly on the throttle body assembly. You will be able to access this from the engine compartment. 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
