Been here since 1994. I’m not going anywhere. Only thing constant in life is change. I’m having a good experience. Helps to stay positive and grateful.
I lived in both Portland and Beaverton throughout my life I moved away to Bend 5 years ago… miss PDX but not worth moving back. I sleep comfortably at night in Bend knowing my catalytic converter will be intact on my vehicle. It’s a shame all the crime happening in PDX, such a beautiful city. Love you PDX
Hi guys, I'm from Ukraine and unfortunately I don't have been ever to the USA but I watched many videos about different cities and states and really want to move to Portland some day=) Because this city is most like for my opinion)))
Yap 🙂👍I like mountains and woods and also the ocean not too far so Portland is my choice 😁oh, and the Ukrainian diaspora in this city is big enough to meet someone who knew the same culture))
Portland has its problems, and during the pandemic downtown was AWFUL, but it’s coming back. I hope we can provide housing for everyone and fix crazy high housing and rent prices contributing to mass homelessness
This is nice to read. I’m moving there with my wife and daughter in a few weeks. All we hear about is how bad everything is. We are from a big city and are no stranger to what problems a city might have. I’m excited for the move despite all the negativity that gets spread.
I'm just looking for somewhere green to live, I love the rainforest environment of Portland, I'm thinking I'll go to either Portland or Denver, for me I just hate heat (hot where I live)
Thank you so very much. I am planning on moving to Portland from California March 31st. Will be my last day in California and I'll be on my way to Portland I don't know where I'm a go yet but I am in a service industry so hopefully. I'll be able to find work and find someone that can help me get into a place with. My girlfriend and my three-year-old thank you so much for the information.
None of the negatives are negative to me ..the riots are over , you can learn times and quicker ways as far as traffic, according to several different sources Homes in many parts of the country are dropping in price …Portland may very well see significant discounts in the next 6 months to a year , you can go online and already see price cuts today , no kids so day care no problem and the ocean works or us as far as few lakes . We are making progress with the homeless but I hear many complain about that …Love all the pros ! I especially like that you listed weather ..that is supposed to be secret to keep people from coming here 😆 we want everyone to think it is constantly rainy and/or cloudy ☁️…
Hey Jackson. Awesome content. Question. Where do you get all the aerial footage in this video. I’m sure your don’t have the time to do drone photography? Thanks
I was just offered a job in Portland and I immedittely searched for a pro and cons Portland video. I I love fishing for bass. Are you telling me there's no bass fishing in the entire city? Or no fishing of any kind within the city limits? I hope you see this soon. Loved the video.
We just did a video on the current market a couple weeks ago. Same with AZ. Some houses sell quickly and over list price. Some are sitting. Just depend but inventory is still low.
There’s a ton of recruiters out in pdx. Just depends on which field you’re looking to get into. Contact the team, we have resources and have helped a lot of clients land jobs.
No lakes? There is at least 5 with in 30 min but they get closed all the time due to algae bloom ( lake Vancouver, salmon creek, lacamas lake, horse shoe lake, blue lake)
Gun violence is not on the con list, but the lake of lakes is? I lived there for 16 years. I left in 2019. I was amazed at how blinded locals were about how quickly that place was deteriorating. The only thing more amazing is how much denial the place is in about how bad it really is. 2021 beat portlands highest murder record. 67 people in the 1980's and 91 people in 2021. In January there were over 19 people murdered with over 127 gun violence incidents. But, yeah...no lakes.
Thank you so thank you so much for all of this great information! I live in Miami and Portland sounds like the perfect place for me! The only thing that kind of worries me is the cost of living. Everything else sounds great to me.
I have always liked the Hiking trails in the Portland Area! I liked all the Pros, & I get the Cons. I lived in Seattle back in the day, and have visited Portland/Vancouver Area Thx Jackson - I'm learning about Portland, Oregon and look forward to visiting again!
Thanks. I am looking for a state to retire to. If I move in the next few years I would have to find a new job. I have wicked allergies to cedar, ash & Oak trees. They say that this place is great to live here for that reason. What do you think? You cant pump your gas in Jersey either.
I moved to the Pearl a few months ago and the “cons” aren’t as bad as I thought they would be from watching the news. Today for the first time since i’ve been here a tent appeared on the sidewalk across the street from my place, but within a few hours it was gone. I have no idea what happened (someone in my building complained maybe?) or if tents will return but for now it seems there are neighborhoods such as the Pearl that seem to be able to keep their sidewalks free of tents.
@@timcombs2730 I work downtown managing retail & office property in Old Town & commute by walking through those neighborhoods, so I’m very aware that the Pearl is somewhat insulated even though it’s just a few blocks away.
Great video. Just saw this. Just wanted to add, You forgot cost of living is very high. 29% higher than national average. Besides buying a home (which is outrageous for what you get here) Median rent is around 1700$ while nationally is around 1200$ and groceries costs are 15% higher. Alternatively, there is no sales tax. Public transportation in portland metro is top of its class. Gas prices are a little higher than the national average. Job market is hit or miss. Easy to find good work in the tech and sales industry. From my own observations Oregon tends to get hit harder in economic downturns compared to the rest of the nation. In my experience, good and fun place to live. It has lost a lot of its charm in the last 4 years or so because of the homeless crisis, crime and terrible political leadership which has a major effect on the area. I don't agree that it's a good place to raise a family. You are right on point with daycare, insanely expensive. The schools are not good and the cost of living makes it that much harder. But for single people in professional environment it's a great place to live. Honestly, I like portland and I love oregon more as a whole but there are better places to live with more to offer and better opportunities than Portland Oregon.
@@keikohawt9589 me too. Inland empire and orange county. Some days I miss it. Funny you say, I'm actually looking at New York to move to next. What did you like and dislike about it?
@@378dbk oh wow! Now it’s gotten crazy with everything going on! Summer time about to be crazier I feel! I lived in Brooklyn “sunset park” to be exact and as a nanny I worked in Manhattan on 16th street a few blocks from 14th st union square I honestly love all of New York even down to sunnyside and Astoria. Even Harlem had great eating places my fav spot was “lido” in Harlem and the pizza is amazing (chefs kiss). I loved the diversity and the freedom of roaming the city without having a car. Well I had my car but my boyfriend at time knew the ropes! Plus I had a police car “Ford fusion” all black. That’s what the cops drive. So I took subway which is a thrill love the entertainment through the subway tunnels & on the subway 😂! Washington square arch was my go to place love the live jazz and being around NYC campus. I’ve cream truck ice cream is expensive but worth it “soft serve w/ cookie crumbles” 🤤 I miss New York so much once I get rich I wouldn’t mind getting a nice condo!
I live in Miami, cost of living here became nuts and I dont like the dating scene here. ITs only for hookup not long term. I want a family and settle. Should I move to Portland Oregon?
@@timcombs2730 lol Maybe because everyone is searching in google and Portland is one of good cities to move to in recent years. Things may change so people always move around and shuffle. For example, all of a sudden we have soooo many people coming from NY claiming its so cheap to live here. Its not cheap but for them is cheap. Also, many people moved to Texas from California. I have friends moved from Miami to Charllotte, Virginia and DC. Some moved up north of FL to Orlando.
kids are essentially 'not' welcome here -- or maybe you want kids playing amongst the bums, druggies, general criminals and their detritus: feces/urine on not just streets but sidewalks, needles, vomit, burned-out vehicles dotting so many streets, bums on nearly every street corner, dilapidated RV's on so many-many streets. All this with the 'blessing' of Portland's elected leftists. but if there's money one can insulate themselves from much of this; you see Portland's electeds have effectively stopped the aforementioned into 'most' of Portland's affluent 'hoods, it is those folks' money that keeps them in their government class job... write Portland off, it's working overtime to become the Detroit of the west coast...
Portland is awesome. So so much goodness. Everyone should move there. Like everyone at all. Especially if you’re from CA. That way people will move away from where I live. 😂
I'm kinda sad about Portland and Seattle. Before the pandemic, I had my eyes set on the Pacific Northwest U.S. The natural beauty alone was enough for me to consider moving there. Now that those two cities have gone to hell, I'm considering Vancouver BC. Then again, Covid is keeping the borders closed to nonessential travellers. I guess I'm stuck here in Michigan 🤷🏽♂️
As someone who has lived in Vancouver BC, the homeless, crime and drug crises has gotten worse there as well. Sadly the entire PNW got screwed by the pandemic. All of those cities are very similar. But they are bouncing back. Just remember Vancouver is extremely expensive, if you think Seattle or Portland is expensive, just double it, and that’s Vancouver. You can’t find anything decent under $600,000. And renting is even worse. Portland is the most affordable and also much smaller a city then Seattle or Vancouver.
PNW is awful, quite frankly. As somebody else said, the prices are insane and it's rainy and dark most of the year. Try looking into Victoria, on Vancouver island. Clean city, and not crowded to all hell. Crime and homelessness in Vancouver BC is getting much worse too
Sorry don’t like the video looks outdated to me Live in the metro area 19 years we get at least 3 times about feet of snow, and it is raining a lot here or if not raining it just gray clouds no sun plus Portland is only got worth every year dirty homeless and drug addicted people everywhere tent camps not only in downtown but also in residential areas, food just OK especially if compare to some other states metro areas ocean is cold about two hours to drive, for kids not a lot of places to go, Bend OR is way far 3-4 hour driving depends on weather and traffic And all the forest fires in the last 5 years every summer
Mid-December through mid-January is a great time to go, as nearly 20,000 grey whales migrate south to Mexico for the winter. Late March to June is another prime time to watch for gray whales traveling north toward Alaska.
the only thing i didn't like was your opinion of people driving badly in inclement weather. For you badly must mean safely. Just take a good day to process that lol
Meh. Paid Portland a visit. Everyone I met from Portland were miserable souls... very negative people and just all around unhappy. I've never had so many junkies yell at me for having a job. Is it 'played out" talking about the homeless? I've never seen it so bad. I'm from Detroit. Granted Detroit is much bigger but still... I wasn't prepared to constantly have to look down when I walk so I wouldn't step in human sh&t. This was yrs before Covid.
Lmao where were you even at 😂😂😂 living here I walk my dog happily every day, never see much transient / homeless individuals, and definitely am not worried about stepping in human waste. Genuinely curious where you were even at in the city to have experienced that.
@@mikaelaworkman3138 to be fair...it was downtown... not in any of the neighborhoods. I didn't realize what we were feeling until we left to visit some family in Eugene. As soon as we got out of the car in Eugene, I felt a huge weight lifted off my back..like I could finally breath again. We were constantly harassed in Portland going to our hotel...junkies yelling at us like we were elitist of something. The people who weren't junkies were all very negative and unwelcoming. It was like we were looked down upon for having jobs. It was just a overwhelming negative experience. And we don't come from a land of happy go lucky either. But people are definitely more friendly in Detroit than Portland. And I'm talking about Detroit...not the surrounding suburbs. As far as the homeless and human feces...yes..it was def a culture shock to see so much of it. People need a place to live and use the bathroom but I never experienced something on that scale. Granted...Detroit it 10x the size and there and 1000 abandon buildings and houses here for people to squat in. I can easily understand people need a place to live...but the overall negativity and distain for out of towners is what got me.
@@backrack01 interesting, see I found downtown Eugene to have a huge amount of transient population just laying all in front of all the shops/restaurants of the downtown strip, and made me not want to walk around in that area of Eugene. I guess it’s constantly changing, and that’s what makes them transient. Definitely a health hazard for sure.
once in a lifetime lol......wait till the next election...or wait till christians pray in the park...try to do anything that is not woke downtown and see what happens
Jackson Thanks to U and Jesse I'm going on my 3rd year living in Portland & now I've bought my 3rd home here in Portland Suburbs since first seeing your videos. Also Thanks for referring me to your team member Heather she's helped more than once. The videos U-2 did before you guys flew the carrier Pigeon Coop got me out of the sinking hellhole state under Oregon. Seeing many investors from Seattle, San Francisco, LA, & even China buying up the newer homes in W-PDX and rising up the prices. Weather is cold to me from mid NOV. to late Feb. Rain is like the riots it's over rated it's for the most part just showers a lot. A little more than half the year it showers and people from here don't use umbrellas & do know how to drive in the wet/showers/rain but lots of newbies from other places here do not know how to drive here. It takes a year or more to get it for most because some of the roads are weird and you can't legally make many U-turns here. When it snows in Portland is when you see lots of crash's and cars left all over the place in general people here have lots of trouble driving in snow. Love this place but for me Portland cost's more then CA for things like cars, labor and toys and many other things so most things except gas and homes cost more in Portland. You need to have lots money coming here or no money at all and then you can join the growing number of drug addicts homeless downtown living off the super high property tax's the local government charges the home owners here that supports their drug habits and never working at all and living off the Portland tax payers for free. The more free stuff they give out the more homeless/drug addicts/criminals are showing up and not leaving. Homeless live off downtown area and parts of bridges and some parts of freeways and other spots like Marine Dr but not in the good areas at this point. They have tripled since I moved here nearly 3 years ago. Talk to Heather she will guide you to the right kind of home you want to buy in good neighborhoods. THX again Portland is still way better than WA or CA is for me with pro's and cons just like Jackson is kind of telling you. I'm here right now telling you what I'm seeing from my angle.
Same here. I already purchased 2 houses in the Portland area and just offered on my 3rd. My two houses have already doubled in value. Love how cheap the land is here compared to California.
Portland has a bad reputation BECAUSE OF FOX NEWS? 🤮 Portland has a bad reputation BECAUSE OF THE FACTS: Over the last 40 years it became a Liberal Cesspool. We just escaped from there.
Pros-not living there, not thinking about living there, being glad I don't live there, it's far from where I live and no family lives there. Cons-living there, thinking about living there, being glad I would be living there, if it would be closer to where I live, if family lived there
