I think it was a terrible pick. He's not going to be able to play until he's 27/28 and now the team is tied into a massive contract with Kirk Cousins... seems like a potential disaster to me. Still love Penix though, just wish he could've gone somewhere with a chance to play
@PaytonTalksNFL 100% agree. Even if Penix is a franchise QB they don't find out for 2-3 years. Unfortunately for the front office if they aren't competitive in those 2-3 years they're out of a job!
Funny you compared Fields to Hurts. I only started watching the NFL in '22 & I think there was a 3-week period where the Bears were The Best Offense in the NFL & lost all 3 of those games & people said "this just proves that Fields can't win." A perfect example of something stupid about human nature: we are far more attached to our narratives than we ever are to truths. Where Hurts comes into things was idiots said "He _is_ the Eagles' offense." Wtf? I point out that with The Best O-line in the league & a top-3 WR duo he had all of 5 more TDs than Fields who had Mooney & Claypool. To which people say "he got a lot of TDs with the tush-push, reducing his TD total passing." So Fields doesn't get the extra credit for not having that? Everything they say contradicts their narratives but they're So Attached To Them they can't let them go.
They haven't played a down yet, its WAY too early. Let us review this in 3 or 4 years when we know how some of these guys actually did and we have a better idea what Atlanta was actually thinking?
