Houndstone was or is not ridiculous. He got banned because of its signature move Last Respect. They already stated that they debated over whether to ban just the move because no one can learn the move beside Houndstone. But once home and PLA mons hit the meta, it will be brought back as Basculegion can also learn the move. So most likely they will only ban the move instead of the pokemon
@@kkrstudios Well if we're going to be splitting hairs its "Houndstone is rediculous, but only because of Last Respects". The move is a part of what makes a pokemon. Kygore wouldn't be the beast it is if it only learned Water Gun. I still agree that Last Respects, not Houndstone itself, should have been banned though.
I love how for Palafin, the OU community turned the superhero pokemon into their own nefarious supervillain, dubbing it "Nifalap" and celebrated it's departure
GEEEZ Maybe is because game freak give in every new gen like almost 70% of the new pokemon not only strong moves but also ridiculous stats? Like come on son
Now here I thought iron bundle and flutter mane were just abilities. Nope, they're just the official names of "Paldean Delibird" and "Paldean Misdreavus" designed with added swag.
gen 1 alakazam could at least be run as a twave support mon flutter mane is more like gen 1 mewtwo but replacing amnesia stat boosts with being insanely fast
Fitting for its blistering fast base 200 Speed, Regieleki just now set the record for fastest quickban, lasting a bit more than a day in OU. May it BoltBeam in hell
Never in my life would I ever have thought that Delibird would ever have been so good that it had to have been quick banned. I wish I could go back in time and tell my 8 year old self playing Crystal and see the reaction, a Mon I thought only learned “Present”
When ORAS came out, the new tier PU had pokemon like lopunny and bedrill that received new mega evolutions. At the time, the tier was full of pokemon that were not even fully evolved; having just 90 attack was considered godlike. Then out of nowhere, mega pokemon got introduced. It took mere hours for the megas to be quick banned and they would all go on to be great pokemon in competitive tiers; Mega Lopunny for example manged to be the best mega in OU on a few occasions, even if it was just for a while and it was once in PU.
I have my doubts that Houndstone will remain banned. Not because Last Respects + Sand Rush isn't broken, but because Basculegion is coded to be able to have the move when HOME lets it into SV, and he's a better user of it than Houndstone in every way. As such, I suspect that they'll unban Houndstone and ban the move Last Respects itself, as it'll no longer be limited to a single Pokemon.
100%, as soon as last respects is on anything else, the move will be eating the ban and houndstone will come back. Until then, Houndstone can enjoy the scorn/Praise that comes from being broken enough for force one of the fastest quick bans ever in what seems to be one of the most power creep heavy generations ever.
People were saying that about rising voltage koko and expanding force lele last gen though, they could just make basculegion not get last respects at the last second
The thing is that in order to ban Last Respects, it needs to be broken on the NFE Basculin-White-Striped as well. If Basculin-W is unable to be busted with Last Respects, they cannot get the go ahead to ban the move, which means both Houndstone and Basculegion may end up banned instead.
The bigger problems with buffed Kyurem-Black imo were Heavy-Duty Boots and the addition of Icicle Spear as a physical Ice-Type STAB, since no one was ever going to be using Freeze Shock in OU.
@@bdt2002gaming That's all it was going to take. It's base stats alone are clearly Uber and before it got Dragon Dance and Icicle Spear, it was held back by it's relatively barren movepool (no proper Physical Ice STAB).
While 300 BP is the most Common base Power for Last Respects, Last Respects BP and Boosted by the amount of times your team fainted, so if someone used revival blessing (or just a revive in game) it can go as High as 5050 BP
@@alejandrobernard3828 hate to burst your bubble but last respects caps at 350 too if you have revival blessing, since that can only be used once, maybe 400 if you have both pokemon that can learn it, last respects is technically nerfed because to get to 5050 power, you need to knock out your own pokemon 100 times, which is impossible.
Is it weird the these videos remind me of the “The Most Extreme” videos of old animal planet? Like yesssss, show me the ridiculously broken Pokémon and why they’re so broken.
That also explains why in the AI Turo battle does Iron Bundle tries for snowscape turn 1 and sometimes keep abusing it uselessly; it'd be too difficult otherwise.
Dunsparce got a quickban from Little Cup at around the same time as Flutter Mane and Houndstone - which is not only insanely fast, but absolutely hilarious given that Dunsparce of all things got a quickban from something.
The only ban quicker than flutter mane in Smogon history was Shedinja in gen 9 nat dex it took only 1 day to get banned with Cyclizar and terra elec it became an unkillable monster
All that just for Shedinja to still die to Sandstorm or Spikes damage 💀 Edit: If I remember right, aren’t Pokémon holding an Air Balloon immune to entry hazards?
@@bdt2002gaming they’re immune to the entry hazards the flying type would give them, so they would still be effected by stealth rock if I’m correct. Also I think shedinjas in NatDex ran sunny day or rain dance for the sole purpose of handling weather, since the only other moves you needed were swords dance, leech life, and shadow claw. Really the only thing standing in shedinja’s way was iron barbs/rough skin and rocky helmet.
@@bdt2002gaming You’d clear the hazards first, or switch in before they get a chance to set hazards at all (if you think they’re gonna use Stealth Rock, you can use Shed Tail for a free switch in, considering Cyclizar’s Speed). As for Sandstorm damage, you can actually run Sunny Day to catch their Ttar switch-in off guard.
What were they thinking when they added moves that could surpass the power of _Explosion_ that you could actually spam and wouldn't come with any downside
They were thinking "this move would be fun during the story, and almost irrelevant in VGC, so it's okay". Gamefreak balances the game around VGC, not singles.
Man, I forgot how hilarious Zygarde-Complete's bulk was. Just tanks a 4x SE STAB Ice Beam coming off of (only) 103 Sp. Atk. ....Yet there's at least 1 glitch Pokemon in Gen 1 that's higher in EVERY base stat. It makes me wonder just how quickly Glitch Pokemon like that would be banned for their POWER, not their glitchyness, if they were in today's meta. Great analysis video! Thanks for uploading!
Regieleki got banned to Ubers just 1 day after Pokemon HOME was updated, thanks to Terablast. Now it can terastalize into an ice type and decimate ground types.
The release of Pokemon HOME compatibility for S/V has brought with it the new fastest OU quickban in history: Regieleki was quickbanned only 25 hours after being made available, in true Regieleki fashion.
"We need a counter to Regieleki!" "What Regieleki?" "The one right th-... Wait, where'd he go?" "See, *nothin'* to worry about". That's what it was like to me. He was a darn phantom; you swore he was there, but he was gone so fast you had to double check that he was there to begin with.
You can get the Tombstoner TM in Pokemon Periwinkle. It has the same TM availability as Dig, which gives a lot of pokemon access to a Rock move. It fits nicely on Charmander, and together with Dragon Rage and Charmustard, make Charmeleon a WAY better pokemon for the midgame Actually a lot of mediocre pokemon in gen 1 get nice moves to propel them a bit, which is good to account for the increased difficulty. Like, Pidgy can actually compete with Spearow thanks to its new move, and there's even new pokemon like Jumpeon, the only Jump type pokemon in the game, and Obamatwo.
Unfortunately this doesn't really work because the Japanese name for Tombstoner is "Die! Die! Beam", which doesn't really fit Hounstone as well as Tombstoner
I remember when Mega Venusaur and Mega Diancie were unleashed into UU in mid-2018 and seeing the collective UU community go into full Defcon 4 and panic mode. Mega DIancie was quickbanned in just under a week I believe because obviously what the hell was the council thinking. It took a bit longer for Mega Venusaur to get get fully tested in the waters it now dominated but it was soon also deemed too broken for UU and banned around 2 weeks after Mega Diancie was. I think it's still considered one of the most WTF moments UU ever experienced.
So my memory may be faulty, but I coulda sworn that Mega Salamence was so hilariously busted, it was banned *before ORAS even came out*. IIRC the tier was playable slightly before release due to dataminers doing their thing, and during that time Megamance was banned. *edit Not OU, but I'll never forget about the time in Gen 6 Lando-I fell down to UU for all of 6 hours... and was summarily quick banned alongside Kyurem Black. Was easily my favorite memory of being part of the Smogon community.
That doesn't count because marshadow was added in the middle of the generation (I think I forgot). If that's the case then mega lopunny would be the quickest ban from pu which was an hour
@@dabmonstr7403 I can see it somewhat but they could have mention it as a honorable mention due to his release date hindering his quick ban because let us be real: it wouldn't have last long (I mean it hasn't lastest long to begin with but at the begining of Gen 7 it just wouldn't).
I think it's because only newly introduced box art legendaries are Uber by default, hence why pokemon like Kyurem and Necrozma were in the lower tiers for a hot minute. At the same time, the alternate forms of kyurem and necrozma were in ubers right off the bat because they were introduced as box-arts. I think the same rationale could have been applied for Zygarde-C if pokemon Z ever existed, but since it didn't debut in a game that had it plastered on the cover, it wasn't uber by default. Not sure how it works for the DLC legendaries, though.
Last Respects is probably the most broken Pokemon move EVER. Think about it, if you sacrifice everyone else on your team, the move's base power will be 300, which is stronger than freaking explosion. It doesn’t make the user faint like explosion ethier. The only way to tank it would be being normal type…
While 300 BP is the most Common base Power for Last Respects, Last Respects BP and Boosted by the amount of times your team fainted, so if someone used revival blessing (or just a revive in game) it can go as High as 5050 BP
Zangoose, when it dropped to ZU during a tier shift in SM, was unanimously and immediately banned by the entire council. It’s funny when the stars align, everyone is online, and a completely broken Pokémon drops.
7:09 To put it into perspective, Iron Bundle's base speed stat is so broken, it could outspeed most Pokemon even if the opposing team was under the effects of tailwind 😳
Flutter Mane has much to be broken, great stats well distributed, an amazingly good typing with few weakness, various immunities, nearly unresisted only with STABs.
Oh Aegislash, one of my fave mons! Watching the video I remembered the SubToxic set, I think it had King's Shield and Shadow Ball, that was a nasty set. I also remember when it came on 6th Gen, it was physical attacker, then special and finally the better set was the SubToxic, so versatile.
I feel like Houndstone's quickban has to be with an asterisk because almost everyone believes that it should be Last Respects that should be banned and not Houndstone itself. It's just some bullshit about making sure that every Last Respects user is broken, since Basculegion is the only other Pokemon that knows Last Respect but it's not in SV yet, because of the move itself even though we know Basculegion would be even more broken with the move than Houndstone.
@@bulborb8756 I think they banned Houndstone because it's the only one that can learn it, but, if Basculin turns out to be balanced with Last Respects (lmao at the idea) then Basculegion will Terrorize Ubers, especially thanks to It gaining Swift Swim
@@astilcodex6930 the thing is that Basculin-White-Striped also gets Last Respects, and the little tyke would need to be broken with the move as well for Last Respects to be banned.
Back when ORAS was released, several pokemon in PU got mega evolutions. The most broken were Lopunny, Beedrill and Altaria that got banned after three hours or so. Freezai made a video about it. E: Just realized that this video was about OU. Dumb me.
12:57 while what you did say about high HP is true, guzzlord's huge HP actually makes it surprisingly bulky despite it's bad defenses. It's actually bulkier than Toxapex.
@@HawkHogan_ it should maybe like a signature recovery move, kinda like soft boiled, but similiar since it's known to litterly eat buildings from hunger
Just to correct that Video, there's an even more ludicrous than all of those : Marshadow from sun and Moon who only stayed OU for 2 days before being quick banned.
They gave a REGULAR Pokemon with 650 bst with only catch is you must switch it in order to activate it, but they still insist even on PLA to gave Regigigas Slow Start
@@TheMightyWobb They're 1000% doing it for the joke at this point, hell slow start probably started as a joke, there were better legendaries than no slow start regigigas even back in gen 4
i wanted to play through scarlet and violet before i got into it’s competitive scene and flutter mane got banned before i even knew what the pokemon was lmao
I remember using flutter mane due to its monstrous stats. For houndstone I actually looked at it, and even found the move last respects, but I didn't understand what will it exactly work until temp6t's video explained everything. However, at that time it was just banned so I went to ubers.
Its amazing how 1 gen broke so much the meta XD Its also amuzing to see how in VGS the problem isnt quite the same, due to its rules. But Flutter Mane and Iron Bundle really are on a league of their own.
What's crazy is that Flutter Mane didn't slow down in DOU... despite thinking it wasn't oppressive in DOU... I understand... if anything I'm surprised Chi-Yu and Chien-Pao weren't banned first.
Honorable mentions to little cup duraludon, who was pre banned a day before the indigo disk even released, before archaludon was even implimented in showdown
-send out hero mode -click taunt -spam bulk up -you win. Predictability doesn't really matter too much when faced with this, lol. You KNOW it's coming but there's barely anything you can do to stop it
From learning about Mega Salamence in this video makes me even prouder for Toxic and heal stalling one with the likes of Slurpuff in online USUM years ago.
How does one quantify which pokemon are true Ubers, and which ones are OUBL? Different pokemon are in ubers for different reasons, but even pokemon in the same "group" have wildly different viabilities in Ubers. Is Zamazenta a "true Uber" due to being a box-art like Zacian, or is it "OUBL" due to being weak in the tier? Is Kyurem Black a "true Uber" due to starting in Ubers in gen 5, or is it OUBL due to having been banned from OU after several generations of being in the tier? I suppose we could just do "non-legendary ubers," but that still leaves pokemon like Zamazenta out to dry.
200% certain they nerfed Steel just because they knew Aegislash would be too much otherwise. Same could be said about Mega Metagross depending on how early that one was in the works
@@CaptainObliviousV Given Gamefreak's track record for balancing I kinda doubt it, they probably did it as a tradeoff for steel resisting fairy, and the side effect of stopping the iron sword was unintentional Or maybe its a bit of both, and like 2 weeks before the game's launch and some random dev decided to check aegislash's stats and only then noticed that it resists/is immune to 12 types Grass Normal Flying Fighting Bug Poison Rock Psychic Ice Dragon Steel And fairy Is neutral against 4 Water Electric Ghost Dark And is weak to a whopping 2 Ground Fire And then emergency nerfed this beast before it could simultaneously rule over every competitive format at once
My fave quickban is Mega Pinsir, I don't remember what tier it was, maybe UU but it lasted like 1 or 2 hours lol That SD + Quick Attack and Return Aerilate was too strong!
When Palaffin dropped i thought it would switch between citizen and hero everytime it switched, like the superheroes it bases on, that's part of the trope, to whenever the hero left the common identity would apear.. I wonder if that could have made it worthless or more balanced
I’ll be honest, with the continued power creep and the banning of a lot of Pokémon that I love only for them to be useless in Ubers, I kinda think there should be a new tier, like OP (OverPowered) to help widen the number of viable Pokémon per meta game and perhaps also clean up some of the more powerful picks in OU
