Wait what? Not retire? Pshhhht! But yes, I agree, there are so many people who are much happier working and they actually love it. Me, I love exploring.
We know some people that love to work and it give them a sense of purpose and is their complete identity. Everyone is different, we aren't in that boat but we understand it.
I understand it as well. I'm an early retirement guy but there are some that want to stay working. Either way, I wish everyone happiness with their choices.
One reason not mentioned is if a spouse is involved. The spouse may feel to stay employed to continue the lifestyle that they have or have medical coverage. Debt is another, you may be fine but debt accumulated by spouse may keep one employed if not comfortable with spouses financial circumstances
I've known people who chose to work until the died. Money was not part of their equation. They loved their work. They loved being part of large organization with serious global impact. And they loved the interactions with people, especially their younger coworker. They were happy to the end.
Retire and do what? I'm enjoying my retirement, but I also enjoyed the businesses I started and ran, I enjoyed the community of work colleagues. I enjoyed creating and changing peoples lives. I retired at 66, but I loved every minute of my working life and wouldn't want to have ended it early.
I retired at 60. If you can pull it off financially do it. Retirement means you do what you want and if you want to work then work. Eff you money is important.
It may take a few weeks for the "I'm retired now what?" to sink in. The beauty is you are TOTALLY in control of everything. (except maybe the wife..lol) One piece of advice, be active, health is important. Continue your channel but don't let it overwhelm you. I did that, very stressful. For me, I was looking forward to it so I transitioned very easily to retirement. Make it yours, be active, be happy about it (it does make a difference), be flexible with your time, and embrace everyday.
It's all about money for me as a single person. I do not want to work full time anymore. If I take my SS next year, I will have to work at least part time. I like what I do, but I do not want to do it 5 days a week. 2 days a week would be just right. I am really trying to live off the amount I will get from SS, but every single month something comes up. this month it's been a HVAC repair 1k. Car battery 300 dollars. Work Shoes 300 dollars. Next month Homeowners insurance.. anywhere from 2500 to 6k. November House taxes 2400.. It never seems to end. Thank goodness I don't have a mortgage or a car payment!!
There is always something. (bills/expenses) If you are better off if you wait a couple years to retire, stick it out. No one said retirement or getting to retirement is going to be easy. It really is hard. Hang in there.
Retirement are the best years for 99. % of the people but for a minority, yes I agree they just wanna work til they die and most of the time they are artist, business owner, and so on
Question. If you lived in Arizona instead of Winnipeg , would have retired at 55 years? Was the option to leave the Canadian winters behind a motivational factor. Great channel
55 was always my goal. I would love to live in AZ BUT getting into the US is difficult for most Canadians without being a professional something or other. If you are like me, a gas fitter, the jobs are offered to Americans 1st. The only other way is to invest in a business (minimum 1 million) and have to be self sufficient. You have to provide your own healthcare and cannot use government services. Much different than immigrants or illegals from other countries. Leaving Canadian winters was always the plan.
