I'd rather take winters over anything like : Tornadoes Droughts Wildfires Hurricanes Earthquakes Tsunamis Bad flooding Sand storms Sink holes Avalanches Volcanic eruptions Really bad snakes and bugs If the trade off from all those I listed are long cold/snowy winters then I'll take the winters even if winter is what I despise deeply.

Just moved back to Wisconsin last April, from Arizona after 18 yrs. The rents/cost of living has skyrocketed big time in AZ, its become unaffordable. I am paying $500 a month LESS rent here for a larger size place, than I lived in, in a gang and drug infested neighborhood in AZ. I have a beautiful grassy yard, wonderful neighbors, and don't have to worry about drive by shootings. Or tweakers camping on my patio. Also don't see 100's of homeless, and drug addicts on every corner, in front of stores, gas stations etc. it is astounding. In my 18 yrs in AZ, I have personally witnessed 8 shootings. And it doesn't matter where you live there, the crime is reaching places, where they thought it wouldn't. Just because you live in Scottsdale... doesn't mean you are safe. They just had a home invasion happened in the ritzy neighborhood. I will take Wisconsin ANYDAY... I also got more pay, for the same job I did in AZ, when I came home for 3 months in 2017. I don't work anymore, so when the snow comes I can choose to stay home. I am loving the 4 seasons... and the beauty Wisconsin holds. Instead of Hot and Hotter lol

Hi. You have calmed my anxiety with our decision to GET OUT OF Vegas NV because of exactly what you were describing of AZ. Everywhere there are shootings, home robberies, homelessness laying around and zero friendly people because of their fear of being attacked if they smile or wave . The cost of living has tripled here since all the CA people have escaped to live here. It’s time to not live in fear and live with our retirement lives in 4 seasons and not 2 seasons of Hot and More Hot. We paid our dues of 35 years here and time to move out. Thank you for your comment response.

It took awhile for my daughter to convince me, because of weather, but I think it was more so, because it was a big move, and a huge change, change can be hard. I was used to AZ. But I can tell you I am extremely happy to be back. Life is good, the trees changing are beautiful right now. And so happy to be out of all the crime, and so forth. Lots of Cali people moved to AZ too... and it has been ruined... I wish you luck!!!!

An interesting angle might be looking at people who are moving back to Wisconsin. We moved to Florida twenty years ago. At the time we came down, I connected with a recruiter to help in a job search. I remember when I told her I was from Wisconsin she said "You're not going to be without a job long. When employers down here find out you're from the Midwest, they snatch them up." She was right. I had a job pretty quickly after. Now we've bought a second home in Wisconsin and plan to retire there. For family, friends and the people in general.

Hey! We’ve had friends move to other areas of the south and employers had the same view of Midwesterner’s there too. Our friends were also surprised at the lack of the willingness to put in a good days work down there. The midwestern work ethic is one thing that makes Wisconsinites unique!

Also, if I might add... the people in Arizona, commented all the time about how friendly I was.... but on the downside, that friendly Wisconsin attitude, almost got me in serious trouble in AZ a few times. Wanting to help someone, but putting my life in danger, unknowingly. I learned fast....

People aren’t always the friendliest in Az…not one neighbor came over to say hi when we moved in. One even peeked over our fence. The amount of sketchy people has increased there every decade due to the weather. We were in McCormick Ranch in Scottsdale.

And actually, winter has not been bad. We don't even have any snow, except the few piles in our yard. I have only had to shovel twice, this whole winter. Regarding winters in Wisconsin... Some say winter in Wisconsin is brutal. Winters in Wisconsin used to be brutal. Global warming has changed that. 50 years ago it was more or less routine to get a 10 day-two week stretch of very cold weather in January. -15 or -20 was often the case. Often, a snow storm of 8"-10" or more would come before the severe cold. This could repeat in February. It is still possible to get this kind of weather. But winters have been quite a bit more mild for many years now. Remember, Wisconsin IS a northern state. Wisconsin can also be very warm, but hasn't been so for a number of years. Flooding happens in some places at times. The greatest weather threat, in my opinion, are tornadoes. Those are usually most possible during transitional times of the year. Even then, Wisconsin isn't like Oklahoma.

Shopping in walgreens in your state takes over an hour for 5 items. Woke is easy to define. A crazy leftist that agrees with insane ideologies that don't benefit anyone. You don't find it insane that you can't shop at walgrens without having to flag down an employee, if you can find one, just to get a small item? They need to assign an employee for everyone to follow them, so that they can shop efficiently. Florida doesn't have these issues. There is a reason. That said, the crazy high property taxes isn't justifiable considering CA actually has a lower percentage of property tax but the values are much higher. The cold winters don't bother me as I've been use to it. The hot and muggy summer months could be an issue as I'm a runner and that climate makes it very difficult. Retiree's living on their savings, investments and other income, need affordable housing with low taxes, plus some states provide no taxing on retirement income. At the other end of the spectrum, are the young professionals and skilled blue color workforce. Affording an apartment or the price of almost any starter home is difficult to afford at this juncture in their work life. The powerful real estate lobby in Madison is mainly responsible for the high cost of living in the greater Madison area. Through the eighties and into the early nineties Madison housing costs were within normal ranges, then it began to rise at a unprecedented rate to where we are now. Who does this really benefit?

Florida doesn't have that issue, because we prosecute criminals, instead of punishing the shoppers who are spending money by making them try and search for some idiot who isn't doing their job, to come and open a locked glass case, just to get deodorant. I work the state fair in Wisconsin every year as a vendor. I always read and heard that midwest people were so friendly and nice and genuine. That is the exact opposite ive dealt with. Id say about maybe 10% of the people who come up to order food, are nice and sweet. The other 90% are entitled, rude, cheap, and just make me want to get the fair over with as soon as possible. They complain about everything. The price. The portion size. The fact that i have to charge for extra things. The fact that it is a busy fair, and sometimes we run out of certain things because it is such a busy fair, that we cant get more ingredients the same day. Just all around entitlement. Like we are supposed to love and thank them for visiting the fair. We have 25 other spots just as busy, with half the assholes. If it was my food stand, i woud never work the state fair again. The last day just happened today, and i couldnt be happier to get the hell out of this place, away from these brats. Hunnnnnnnn, meet me at the bubbler, then we are ganna go get sum cheese curds hunnnn. Maybe grab a pop if we can find a stand that isnt charging 8 dollars for a pop! (Spoiler alert, every stand charges the same amount for a drink, because vendors are made to buy our cups from the fair board, and we all have to charge the same amount). God im so glad to get out of this place haha.

Well, seems like you should come to expect that when you're at a place selling overpriced items in small portion sizes. I have a hard time believing that's unique to one state. I've lived in multiple states, and I never experienced people being happy about essentially getting ripped off. I mean you pretty much exposed how nice and friendly you are by mocking people using stereotypical language. Perhaps people can sense that, and aren't particularly friendly back.
