I have a rescued Papillon-mix that is partially blind and deaf. He had been terribly mistreated when I got him. He never made a sound for over three months. I thought he didn't have any vocal cords. The vet said that someone had beaten him severely every time he barked and he simply shut down. He'd doing much better now. I've heard him bark a few times in the 9 months since I've had him. He's not nearly as skittish as he once was, and he sees me as his "protector." I see him as my buddy and friend.
Poor thing I don't know why humans have pets if they are just going to be monsters. My Papillon mix was also mistreated they would make her wear the bark shock collar.🥺😥
They are so smart. They are so much smarter than the idiot who hurt your sweet baby. He knew to stop making a sound, rather than be killed. I had a tiny papillon-poodle that I rescued, he’d been terribly mistreated too. He came out of his shell quickly, but there were certain “triggers” he never forgot. One veterinarian said my mix was the smartest dog he had ever seen. He even mimicked human speech, just so he could be part of your conversation! Bless you for rescuing your sweet sweet baby.
@@beckyoneal738 My little guy has made a remarkable adjustment in the past year and a half I've had him. He still is afraid of certain thing.... the garbage truck of all things sends him immediately into my lap and as close to me as he can get. But, he's the perfect dog for an old guy like me. He's amazingly smart and loves to hear "bedtime stories" about how I rescued him. He will lay in my lap, with his chin on my chest and stare into my eyes all the time I'm telling the story. It's as if he understands every word. I'm so glad he came into my life. I live alone, I'm confined to a wheelchair and I was lonely. Now, I have a companion.
We lost our handsome, loyal and loving Phalene (Papillon) on October 25, 2021. He had a massive seizure that was caused by an undiagnosed brain tumor. He literally was never left at home. He never left our sight. We have no children - he was our son. We don’t know how we will survive without him. We miss you Lucius!
My papillon is almost 16 and still gets the zoomies! She has been a bundle of joy all these years - is starting to slow down, but really is remarkable for her age.
I have a papillon, he’s very playful! they’re very happy dogs and love getting exercise, they follow you everywhere and love to pick up human habits, like sitting on the couch with you, papillons are dogs that actually follow you in the bathroom. they will always put you before anything, they will always love you 🥰
thats my little pap on the left sadly had to get him put to sleep today 28/09/21 12 years 4 months old, rip little fella miss you so much and will never ever forget the happy times he brought me . best ever breed of dog i have ever had .
Thank you for uploading this. Papillons are the choice of French Royalty for the past 700 years, and one of the world's best kept secrets. My Danny Boy just passed and I'm grief stricken. I can confirm what you said, these pups are loyal to a fault. Loving, intelligent, big dog in a small package, they have a wonderful disposition. Always "right there", never out of their puppy parent's sight. RIP Danny Boy, the best friend I've ever had. Surely all Papillons go to heaven. Danny, God bless you, babe.
I'm so very sorry for your loss. When our dogs die, they take a piece of your heart ❤️ with them. I still miss my little Squeaky and it's been 30 yrs. Now we have a rescue dog. She's a Papillion mix and she is very lovable.

I just bought litter mates, a brother and a sister, Papillon puppies that are now 6 months old. I recently lost my Yorkie and I know how you feel. They are our children and no one can replace them! All dogs go to Heaven, so you and Danny Boy will be reunited! 🙏❤️🙏
I have had three and I never laughed or loved any dog more then my pap! I am now hoping to find another one since my last boy left me for the Rainbow Bridge! 😢
We adopted our senior Papillon/Chihuahua (at least that’s what the rescue group guessed he was since he was found as a stray) seven years ago. He’s definitely part Papillon because of his looks and demeanor. When we got him he knew no commands but I worked with him and he picked up everything sooooo quickly. He’s pretty much laid back in personality. Definitely a mama’s boy. If my husband sits next to me on the couch, Reddy will make it a point to jump up on the couch, walk across my husband’s lap and get into mine to be my protector. If my husband pretends to try and slap at my leg, Reddy will defend me. Reddy has never wanted to play with toys but will play games with our hands or treats. I taught him to “talk” when he gets his breakfast by growling when I make a hand puppet talking motion with my hand. I also have taught him other hand signals which are coming in handy as he has started to lose his hearing. When we got him his ears and the sides of his muzzle were black with the rest of him white, looking pretty much like a Papillon. Now, the black has turned gray, and he sleeps a lot more.
I used to know a lady who had papillons and told me all about them. Ever since I have loved to watch them and I'm hoping to get one soon. They're so beautiful! Thank you for sharing Percy.
My new bf has this dog, I really like the dog, extremely smart, energetic and very loyal. All what you described. And I am a cat person, I have 2 cats. But papillon stole my heart.
We had a husband/wife Papillon duo who died of old age awhile back. after a few years I was successful at finding another pair ages 10 and 8. They were rescued from a dog pound in Alabama. They are perfect and the previous owner trained them well. We are very happy!
My Papillon is 14 years old now, and really slowing down. He's pretty much deaf, has lost his teeth (I should have paid more attention to his dental health when he was younger, but, sadly, that was something I had to learn). He's starting to show some signs of cognitive decline, and tends to forget some of his potty training in recent times, but he's still the sweetest boy. I've done lots of research into other breeds, because I really do want to get another dog, and I thought that a larger breed, or random mixed breed from a shelter would be my next choice, but every time I start looking around, I realize that there's just nothing better than a Pap.
Percy is just amazing. Love watching his videos. We recently lost our Pom/Pap mix, Bella. We knew nothing about Papillon dogs but after watching Percy a lot of Bella's quirks and behaviors make a lot of sense now. We miss Bella terribly. She was always up for adventures and loved taking long walks in the woods, camping, and going for road trips. Also chasing flashy squeaky balls and hunting mice. She was the tiny hunter.
I miss my Mr. Pudding so much. He’s a mixed papillion. I have to say he’s anything but loyal 😆 super energetic, smart and outruns me as always. He passed away last year after 13 years.
Hi ! I agree Papillon are a great breed and smart. I had two in my life. One Red & White like Percy.His name was Rusty. Also had a Black & White named Otis. They were great dogs. Also another great breed are Toy Fox Terriers they get along great with Papillons. Give Percy a hug. He's a great dog.
There is only one reason you need a Papillon in your life and its this. They are the greatest little dogs around. They are funny , do great tricks and are very loveable. Super intelligent they can learn things without really trying. We are on to our third now who is 9 months old. We lost our nearly 16 Yr old last year and have one who is 14 now. Even at our age we wouldn't be without our Papillons. Had many different breeds over the years but these little dogs are the most fun.
We Lost our dog Charlie(almost 16 years) last year,we let Vet to let him sleep Forever 😔,last 2 years He had epilepsia And He had meds, but He had Very Very strong ep. attack And we agreed with vet It Will be only Torture for him if we Force him to live for every cost,even his eyes was telling "let me go,please" ,Now year passed And we agreed Its time to go on,So we Are planning to get papillon And we has Reserved one ,but we must Wait some time because He Is only 3 weeks old at this point🐕

I have a CAVALON. A cross between a Cavalier King Charles and a Papillon. He just turned 10. Love the dog. Personality, smart and loving. Looks almost like Percy, but not with the Papillon ears. His are much smaller. I got him as a rescue, because the breeders moved and left him behind because he didn't have the "right" markings ! MY LUCK ! 👍💙💙💙💙
at 16 years old, mine still learn new thing in her senior : with her sight almost gone, she were accidentally step on her own poo after she did her thing, so i put my hand next to her to stop her from turning around to sniff, and from then on she learnt to move straight by herself and stopped sniffing after she did her thing, avoided stepping on 'it' since she learnt that!
Agreed! We had our BEBE for 18 years. Finally ready to love another Papi, but the $3-4K pricing and snobby breeders has soured us. Not on the breed, but on the humans.
I have a male pure bread papillon his 9 years color B & W. Big boy he weights 14 lbrs very healthy, active and loving. His parents we both under 10 lbrs but I guess his DNA made him larger in size which i perfectly fine with me. Little sheading (get groom every 4 months), no odor and great small guard dog. As his getting older I like to get another small dog not sure which bread would be good match. Extremely happy with this beautiful and smart dog.Any suggestion please?.

Love our boy, he's 12 now so not as active as he once was but still a typical pap. He's quite demanding and has a stubborn streak but he's very clever and very needy. He doesn't like big adventours anymore, instead he likes to go visit people and potter about for a bit. They're a lovely dog but people should think carefully before getting one, they've fine bones and can easily get injured. No roughhousing.
ObfuscateMoon Not really. Things to watch for are patellar luxation, retina issues, and plaque buildup if teeth aren’t brushed or cleaned. Overall they are quite healthy. Not a good apartment dweller.
I was given a Papillon without even knowing it I was told it was a Chihuahua mix but it then I was told by a lady in the pet store that its actually Papillon the lady was very surprised I didn't know. We love her very much no matter what breed she is. But after searching it online after the lady in the pet store told me she was Papillon it described her to the T and she actually looks like Papillon. I dont know why the person who gave her to me thought she was a chihuahua.
My Sunny is smart, but doesn't always WANT to listen. Too smart maybe? She knows she can get away with things if I'm not looking. On the other hand she knows the sound I make when I see a bug and comes running to get them for me- I did not teach her this. She also knows what bathroom or I need to pee means and she leads the way like she has to drop me off. She's not as clingy as some dogs though. She loves to be With you, but not ON you. Company, not Cuddles. And there is ONE place to watch out for matts- just behind the ears. For some reason the fur texture there just LOVES to matt. I love her so much
Easy grooming is because they have single coat of guard hairs that are smooth. The undercoat of a double coat is what causes tangles and requires almost daily brushing. The undercoat is more downy and can be harder to comb without hurting and there is more shedding too. Single coat = easy groom.
