Very cool palm. I planted one -- here in San Diego -- never got around to setting up the drip system for it, never watered it, and it is alive and beautiful. It is just starting to get a trunk!

Once the roots find a good soil layer to tap into deep underground it should do OK.

Kerp in mind that after planting it in the ground , you wont be able to move it any more , as thecroots are highly sensitive to fungithat may enter through cuts

I believe that, like many plants that are native to Madagascar, this palm is endangered in the wild. But now it's being cultivated in large numbers in other places, so ironically it's often seen elsewhere.

the bismark at 0:30 has its base covered. is that just becase it wasnt pruned? or how do u get it like that?

Yes, just because it wasn't pruned and that is a good idea (to not prune when smaller). Let it soak in all that sunlight and build a strong foundation, trim it when it gets taller is my advice.

in not sure where you're at but they are popular but expensive in Phoenix. I have mostly seen small in backyards

I planted one last year. Seems to have a decent growth rate. Will keeping it trimmed speed up the growth?

Yes, Trim the lower frawns once it gets tall enough is my advice.

I purchased seeds to grow my own because they are very expensive here in Phoenix. Do you know the best way to grow them?

+Cindyfromaz Plant it in loose soil, keep it watered when the soild gets dry and it should sprout.

Expensive? I just pick them up from my neighbor's palm they all just flood the road the palm is by the road at least 30 feet tall that's how I find them

What an ugly Palm, the color looks dead! I see these going up everywhere in Florida..they look dead, like someone bleached the leaves white from green. These should stay on that island.

Wow, I like the commitment to the color green in palms, gnarly! However, If you mix them in with green palms, they actually create a cool highlight effect, just sayin.

Yeah, they are a strange color for a palm. I think they are best against a backdrop of dark green palms to show the contrast.

They look good, but one is enough. Since they have dense canopies, they block the views and look kinda boring, unlike the canary island date palms and other palm trees imo.
