Don't forget that the Empire has a really hard time removing sabotage from subjugated systems. If you plop it down there, rather than going for high-value targets like Corellia, it can really add up and hamper their deployment capabilities.

Was recently playing a game where the empire managed to get three cards that were able to remove sabotage every turn, so I never was able to keep units from deploying or being built that way, but a better strategy is to use cards and rebel transports to defeat the empire on the ground because it results in the same things that a sabotage token would achieve and is less easy to remove than a sabotage token.

@@DudeMcFlude1The Empire _always_ has a card that can remove sabotage and is a resolve rather than an attempt. It's one of the Empire's starting cards. Doing so also gives it a project card which can pile up dangerous Imperial might very swiftly and are also resolve cards using logistics. These do count to the mission hand limit of 10 though. Be aware that if you are making it fairly obvious you are going to try to sabotage repeatedly the Empire is likely going to start replying by always using this mission which ultimately leaves the Empire coming out on top. You want to hide your intent to sabotage. If you can destroy Imperial ground forces on a subjugated system without too much cost that's always the best option. If the Empire wants to keep that system subjugated they will have to send forces, which means a lot of delays as they have to use a leader, enough forces to pry yours out. If the Empire's forces on a planet are small this is actually pretty easy to do. The flip side is the Empire may just decide to ignore that, especially if it can go capture a Rebel system. A good idea might be to turn that system also loyal to the Rebellion to make it a juicy target for subjugation if you really want to distract from another front that's getting uncomfortably close. The Empire, of course, can always ignore just about everything you try to do and just march in a straight line towards what it has correctly guessed to be the Rebel base.

@over9000lord 4 года назад
Also, don't underestimate your starting forces! If concentrated, they are usually enough to blow up one of the imperial starting fleets or armies (depending on how they set it up). I always like to start my game with an attack on a separated imperial force as this may effectively deny the imps access to an entire sector of the galaxy. Also note, that you don't have to destroy imps both on the ground and in space: you can just blow up their fleet to make their ground forces stranded, or, vice versa, destroy their ground army to make their fleet much less useful (as it can't occupy or reveal the base on their own). Stranding armies is better though, so focus on your fleet power. Remember, if imps destroy ground forces on your base, but you still have ships orbiting it (even an x-wing) they don't win.

Note: The Empire still gets to subjugate a planet if it is the only ground forces. It also still destroys the Rebel base. If the Empire is stranded that is helpful, but the Empire can concentrate its own forces and may prioritize in other regards. There's a lot of back and forth play.

Sabotage markers also prevent deployment in their system, which I think is their best late game benefit (vs. stopping a single Star Destroyer from joining the build queue, for instance). So some careful setup can put the Imperial in a position where they can't deploy units forward when they finally find you.
@ryancparker
@ryancparker 2 года назад
Sabotage is VERY important in the late game for preventing deployments near the rebel base. As a rebel player you should sabotage EVERY turn, especially on systems where the Empire wants to move a fleet out. Sabotage subjugated worlds to prevent the Empire from removing the sabotage marker. Use Build Alliance offensively. Many times your first move will be to use Build Alliance to remove loyalty from an Imperial system before you sabotage it. The leader you Build Alliance with will also do a good job of blocking Rule by Fear. The Empire needs their leaders to move fleets much more than the Rebels do. Tie them down at every opportunity with missions that force them to do missions of their own. Always keep at least one space unit in the Rebel Base just in case of Planetary Assault. I’ve won many games with a single x-wing keeping the base alive just long enough to move it, or better yet, win the game.

I am confused. If you sabotage a subjugated system, the marker removal is as easy as in a full-Imperial system. At least per the rulebook entries I read, both subjugated and full-imperial systems fit the definition used on the marker removal card. Or am I wrong here? If so, could you please explain, ideally with reference to the rulebook (but I get that it may not be convenient)? Thanks! Cheers from Warsaw :)
@ryancparker
@ryancparker 2 месяца назад
@@samsphaneron Research and Development requires a loyal imperial system. The only other way to remove sabotage is with the Construct Factory project card, which does work on subjugated worlds. What did you read that would make you think otherwise?
@samsphaneron
@samsphaneron 2 месяца назад
@@ryancparker hmm that changes quite a bit our understanding. It may be an issue with translation then, we play the Polish localized version. Therein, the card refers to "imperial systems", which by definition in the rulebook cover both imperial and subjugated systems. I believe the lack of "loyal" being referred to in any way in the PL version led to this misunderstanding
@ryancparker
@ryancparker 2 месяца назад
@@samsphaneron That makes a huge difference. The first line on R&D reads: ‘Resolve in any system that has imperial loyalty.’ This creates situations where you will battle for loyalty over a system just to keep it sabotaged to prevent deployment.
@samsphaneron
@samsphaneron 2 месяца назад
@@ryancparker I see, so imperial loyalty demands a non-subjugated Imperial system, correct? Maybe that's why I can never win a game, being a Rebellion fanatic myself and refusing to play as the Empire haha. I'll have to read the English version of the rulebook then for full clarity

Once i was starting with planets besieged by imperium. So i placed all units at beggining into rebel base. And then in first round moved all units into neighbours planets and moved rebel base. I must say it was pretty bold move because there was a chance that no planets would be in good position and Gather intel was practicaly no brainer. But on the other hand my friend was caught completely off guard because he had whole fleet on the other end map and had no way to figure out where did i moved base.

I do love surprise moves in this game. They can be risky, but they're so satisfying to pull off.

With the expansion, rebels can be lethal. With the tactical cards, suddenly a corellian corvette blows a star destroyer and one snowspeeder blows an AT-AT. So imperial units were not the monsters you thought they were. I once attacked 2 Mon Calamari and one X wing with 2 Star Destroyers and Ackbar made 1 point of damage to each of them and then Star destroyers were destroyed and rebels only lost one X wing and I lost 2 destroyers.
@Quincy_Morris
@Quincy_Morris Месяц назад
This can be done in the base game. In some cases it’s easier given base game combat gives an advantage to the attacker as opposed to the expansion which gives a defender advantage.

I like to place my rebel base on illum. It is close enough to be cheeky, but it is an unpopulated system, so most of the times it proves to be a pretty cool rebel base. If you play well with bluffing and put enough stress on the imperial it could go undetected for a good half of the game
@RTFM

I've played against someone who placed on Ilum and got away with it for a looong time. High possibility of danger, but if you can play it right, as you said, it's a solid choice.

Strategy 1: I placed the Rebel Base on Dantooine and my Imperial opponent only found it when the Rebels won and the game concluded! :)
@jonathonfreeman9233
@jonathonfreeman9233 4 года назад
I disagree with you on the first suggestion. I won my first game by having the base on Illum the entire play session. ... however: if you do something that stupid you NEED to start double-feinting and acting like you have bases elsewhere on the map (even drawing the move rebel base card repeatedly to make them think they're on your trail). Also won an additional game by placing a moved rebel base in a remote system NEXT TO A DEATH STAR IN CONSTRUCTION. Other suggestion is "don't be too predictably unpredictable". Since I won the first game being insane with Illum, I played conservative the 2nd go through and got the luxury of watching my same opponent waste movements scouting remote systems. ... also point 4: One time in a single round I pulled a quadruple feint all orchestrated to get a key mission completed. He had pulled off Lure of the Dark Side against Dodonna, carbon froze a hero, and captured another, so he had a huge leader advantage. Basically sent out a number of baited missions to draw away all of his scary leaders (including planning for a couple spares to challenge his and make sure i didn't tip my hand) until he wasn't able to challenge my attempt. Felt like Sherlock Holmes pulling that one off.
@RTFM
@RTFM 4 года назад
Not saying that you CAN'T pull off that kind of bluff, just that it has the potential to go catastrophically wrong without the Imperials even trying. Good to know that you were able to make it work though.

In our last match, my opponent moved the rebel base late in the game and tried to get cheeky with their choice, placing the new rebel base in a system where I had a Death Star & fleet (but no ground forces). On a whim, because I had the card, I blew up the planet that same turn, not realizing I was making the game-winning move. I love this game.

@@NStPpodcast can you actually move to a system when there are units in space? If I recall correctly, I thought about it last time (it was my only choice and I had to move because next round I would be dead anyway) but I checked manual and from polish translation it seemed like there is rule that prevents you from doing that, it have to be fully clear system

Some of the objectives are easier than others, or will be more suited to your circumstances, so it kinda changes from game to game. I would try to gain at least four points from objectives though.
