My reverse culture shocks happen from New York when I go back home to KY. People there (KY) say I talk funny and walk too fast. Also I once had a friend from high school say "You've forgotten your place boy, since moving up there in New York." because I was dancing with a female friend I'd known since 5th grade who happened to be white. It stunned me so I was speechless. Everyone there looked embarrassed too but no one said anything. Then I realized why I moved to New York. There I never have to feel I have a"place".

As a Tennessean (white woman), I am shocked you experienced this. No one should have a “place”.

Paige I relate to everything you have stated in this video😊 I lived in Europe many years ago & it’s still shocking of what is accepting in the US regarding our food & way of doing things & I was born here, lol. So glad that ur adjusting, have an amazing rest of the week!

We don't usually do tipping here in England, but when we do it's only 10%. In Japan, it's regarded as rude to tip.

I lived abroad for 11 years and also visited London. The culture shock when I moved back to the US was very difficult. I agree with the food issue. I absolutely loved the food in the UK and I didn't get stomach aches like I usually do when I eat wheat here.

As a Londoner with many family and friends in the US, who (pre-pandemic) used to visit the US twice a year... I totally agree with all of this! We may speak the same language... but we DON'T speak the same language (if you get what I mean). The tipping point... I find whenever I am in the US, tipping is something I fear the most as I worry about offending people, even though in the UK I am a VERY generous tipper. Thank you for touching base with us Paige... you're internationally amazing 💜💜💜💜

I will have to disagree on this. I lived in London for a few years. New York & London are the exact same! Literally lol. I think many Brit’s forget how big America truly is. You can’t really compare the two because every state an coast is different.
@Kim-427
@Kim-427 11 месяцев назад
@@Vincity1183And I disagree with the tipping mentality. I think Londoners make too much of it. I’m much older than you guys so I guess I don’t feel pressured to tip. I do tip but it’s whatever I like to give. I’m not consumed with percentage. And if I don’t feel it’s warranted to tip I don’t. And that’s how I deal with that. Lol

Definitely agree with you regarding the food. All the Preservatives and Additives that is in US Food along with the fast-food industry, we are definitely not as healthy as some other countries. (Glad to see your videos. I would love for you to do a comparison of prices for not only food but clothing. Also, things or places that UK have that the US do not have (food or clothes). Also, the adjustment back to our terminology. I.e., I know that in Europe that call cookies, biscuits or sweaters are called Jumpers. I live in the Chicago Burbs as well and I would love for you to highlight and do more videos of maybe different things to do in the area as well as different burbs--a day in the life of Paige.)

Yes! Yes! Yes! Can totally relate to bus and metro comments... have two Sons residing there and just last evening I stayed on phone with one until he got inside his home from riding metro from work after midnight🙏🏽 not knocking Chicago but in the US vs UK the transit safety 'hit a lil different' 🤨 Oh btw Paige consider it a compliment that you get so many people approach you... you have a special aura that I see why strangers may gravitate towards... have no idea what blessing your smile and conversation may hold❤️‍🩹 but at same time stay safe😍

I enjoyed your list and I can't wait to hear what other reverse culture shocks you experience as you continue to settle in. I know one thing I greatly appreciated about the fast food restaurants in the UK was how seriously they take allergies, and how there were always vegan options. I need America to jump onboard with that.

I get the communication thing in London, and how many people just don't wanna talk to each other. I've recently left London to move to the south coast, and it's totally different. I was taken aback at first when total strangers said good morning to me. I've realised it's a London thing, not an English thing. Outside of big cities is friendlier in my experience.

Its crazy how much communication culture varies! I'm in Lagos, Nigeria now and they are super duper friendly/formal and talk way too much for me lol. I'm like "can we skip the formalities and can you tell me what you want please?" But maybe its from being in Boston for most of my adult life because its very mind your business and keep it moving.

Good luck on turning the "Paige" and returning to your native Chicago. Yes, people are very friendly here in #Leeds (West Yorkshire), "up north". For visitors, don't be offended if people refer to you as "love" or "sweetheart" up here, its a term of endearment. I know a lot more people tend to use cash over there? It would be interesting to hear how you have found it. All the best from Leeds.

I have always thought the tipping culture in America is weird. Why should I tip someone even if they have give him bad service. Surely it should be up to me if I want to tip someone. And if they give me exceptional service then I will always tip.
@ajs41
@ajs41 11 месяцев назад
We don't usually tip here in England unless you go to a really posh and expensive restaurant. If you just go to an average restaurant you don't need to do it. And if you do it's only 10%.

Paige I am so late commenting. Lol I watched when you posted and wanted to comment but forgot to. Glad to see you back. Don’t get offended but you seem more your authentic self. Tbh,And from what I know about London you use to see like you always had to be “on” if you know what I mean. You use to seem like you had to appear happy and enthusiastic all the time. This video seems natural and relaxed. I think coming home was good for you. Don’t be in such a hurry to run off again. Stay awhile and let yourself exhale. Peace and Blessings!!!❤️

tipping is a whole situation here in the states....I've seen videos recently and overtime if you don't tip correctly for food deliveries, some of these folks will do stuff to your food and that is not right...if I know I aint going to tip no huge tips like that I would just got pick up my food. I'm just saying because you don't know what folks have and with them dealing with your food and getting mad if you don't tip them like they think you should.

The quality of ingredients is absolutely better in the uk/europe. Much healthier. However, I don't think they know what to do with it lol. I have traveled Europe and have never had a meal that I thought was made exceptionally well ( except for 1 indian restaurant in London).
