I am really bonded to and love my '13 Street Triple R; dialed in and just a delight in every way for what I do and how I do it. It's so good to see the new generation of this bike have been done so well. I had always been a fan of Triumph (who really isn't) in the past, but as my bike confirmed for me as I learned it inside/out... I now also have a very profound respect for the engineering teams at Triumph. Watching the RS reviews as a whole and specifically TMF's, it's impossible to ignore the overall balance of the bike in performance/comfort/handling/fun-factor and when a machine generates smiles for the rider... it's a good machine. Kudos to the Triumph team for 'doing it right'. Enjoying this series TMF!!

I've got a bit over 800 miles on my RS as I type this, I cannot get over how great it is! It keeps getting better and better the more I ride it. I had a '13 Street R and then a '16 Speed R previously and this RS is just sublime! The other bikes were great in their own right but this one takes the cake.

Just had a test ride on a rs and i have to say it's an amazing machine. After 10 mins on it i was far more confident on it than i have been after 7 years on my current bike, and this was in the wet. The only problem i had with it was the soft clutch, made it hard to find the bite point at times. Didn't stop me from ordering one when i got back to the dealership though

Agree with your number one! For me too as said great feedback from tires thanks to the suspension. For my search of bike now leaning more towards Tuono which has similar good feedback as the T RS on the suspension side, only difference for me was riding style means the focus of the bike otherwise it would be the Triumph hands down. Price package the best deal today!

thanks for taking the time to make these videos, it would be interesting to see a comparison between this and the STR. It seems all the mags jump straight to the strs ignoring the 'lower' models.
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 7 лет назад
Yes I agree, I think it might partly be to do with the fact that Triumph only has the RS on it's press fleet that it sends out to the mags (and the odd you tuber) to review.....hopefully an "S" and the other models will make an appearance in the near future...

Food for thought What's the under seat storage like on the 765 ? As fit tools , puncher repair kit and waterproof trousers under the seat on the 2014 model . O and could the bar end mirrors transfer to a older street triple model as the look like they do the job much better 🤔

My first bike was, and still is, a 2014 Street Triple R. Some people questioned my choice but my answer was a simple one......regardless of power and performance, my bike will only ever go as fast as my right hand tells it to!!

Snowflare I also rode my XSR900 in the 'rain mode' for a couple of months before graduating to 'standard'. One day I hope to unleash the fury of all the horses in 'sport' mode. Until then, ride safe and RESPECT the bike's lust for power.

Triumph have done a great job with that engine, more power and euro 4 compliant. They must be confident in the reliability of the new triple as I believe Triumph are suppling a version of this engine for the moto 2 championship next year.....rumoured to make 150 - 160bhp. Having ridden this bike I do think it suits the slightly shorter rider, I was a little cramped.
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 7 лет назад
Yeah the bike is physically fairly small I guess, suits me at 5'8" a treat though...and yes I had heard that about Moto 2 as well, will be interesting to see how that pans out...thanks for watching again, always good to hear from you - TMF

Greetings from Sydney, Australia! I really enjoy watching your informative vlogs, especially when you cover things like night riding and cleaning etc. I was just wondering what is the cubic capacity of this bike? (675cc, 765cc, or is a litre?) Secondly, may I ask how tall are you? (I'm 6'1" and was wondering it would be comfortable for a taller rider.) Cheers!

Thanks Sam (I love the internet) - this is the 765, the old bike was 675. I'm 5'8" tall, so not that tall but I've not heard anyone complain that it's too small a bike for taller riders....thanks for watching all the way down there - cheers - TMF

Great video and please keep them coming. I'm thinking about getting this bike to replace both my Monster 1200s and Duke 390. 3 questions 1) How do you think it would be on a longer ride (300-400 miles). I've always been on nakeds so I get the wind issue, I'm just wondering about comfort in general 2) At highway speeds (75mph here) is it buzzy? What RPM are you at? I ask these questions, because I'm looking for the one bike to rule them all. The Duke has completely ruined me and now I just love light bikes. It just doesn't have the power. The Monster on the other hand is a beast, but I think I'm going to miss that power. This seems like a good compromise in the middle. What do you think?
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 7 лет назад
Yes excellent idea...to your questions (1) Should be OK, the bike is no less comfy than any other I've ridden. I've done 300 miles on mine before and it was no problem. (2) You've no need to worry about that, no buzziness anywhere, the triple is smooooooth....enjoy!

Another excellent video; thank you. A minor point about the latest trend for quick-shifters. If they work both up AND DOWN the gearbox, then I can see the point. However, if they're capable of upshifts only, I really cant see why they are useful. I ride an 18 year old vfr800 and it still performs clutchless upshifts beautifully. Maybe I'm missing something obvious (tbh I've never had the chance to try one out) so I'm more than happy for the benefits to be pointed out :)
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 7 лет назад
Well not all gear boxes are that happy to clutchlessly up-shift and if you get it wrong you can damage your box, so I guess it';s just a bit more of a foolproof method to have the ignition cut (and therefore the drive) at the point you change cogs....I love them!

Although I've owned various Japanese inline 4s, v-4s, v-twins, parallel-twins, BMW boxers and BMW inline 4s, I've never tried a Triumph triple - got close to buying a Daytona 955i once! From what I can hear in the video, the TST-RS has a lovely mix of inline 4 smoothness and v-twin burble - I guess the power/torque curves and outputs are somewhere between the two for the same capacity. Sounds great and by the description of everything else, it rides and handles really sweetly. A touch pricey when compared to the MT09?

I like the fact that triumph have put top spec components on bike - Ohlins, Brembo, etc. Triumph in previous years have to me always come across as just a little bit cheeky and overpriced for what you're actually getting but the new RS looks properly good. Expensive though... and it ought to have a blipper for downshifts...
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 7 лет назад
Well I think less that £10K for a bike of this spec is pretty good...
@irritatedmushroom2
@irritatedmushroom2 7 лет назад
The Yamaha MT09 is £7,799. Three cylinder, traction control, ABS, Quickshifter, riding modes, no colour dash or Ohlins suspension but both front and rear are adjustable for preload and dampening. For road riding, the average rider would probably be hard pressed to tell the difference if both bikes were set up properly. If it really was that much of an issue the £2200 saving could go towards an Ohlins set up but, meh. Suspension wouldn't be where I'd spend the extra money. Even an MT10 with a bit of sweet talking at the dealership wouldn't be difficult to get for less than 10k.

I do love the Triumph quick shifter. Upgraded from the 899 to the 675R and it's far superior.
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 7 лет назад
Really? I find the Triumph QS excellent, but the Panigale is pretty much the same if not better....you should try a BMW one!
@jamsxr
@jamsxr 7 лет назад
My 899 was not bad but needed to be revved high to operate smoothly, the Triumph is butter smooth throughout the rev range, it also has no problem with 1st to 2nd shifts, which my 899 didn't enjoy. I've ridden the S1000RR and S1000XR and didn't find them very good, not so much the quick shifter, but gear selection felt loose and vague. The auto blipper on the XR was clunky but that could have been down to the fact it was a new bike. The Aprilia V4 units are also really good but not quite as good as the 675. Maybe it's the lighter engine load making for smoother changes opposed to a better quick shifter.
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 7 лет назад
How interesting, I think it also varies depending on the wind when the QS was fitted, my 899 shifts as slickly as you like in first and 2nd with very little load, the Triumph however is a bit clunky down there but generally very good with a boit of load.....and the BMW, well that's for the farmers!
@jamsxr
@jamsxr 7 лет назад
TheMissendenFlyer interesting, it seems no one bike is the same. Maybe the later 899's are improved as I've heard a few reports of not so slick shifters. Shame there is not a new Daytona for Triumph to lend you!

TMF What's the full tank range of the new STR?
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 7 лет назад
It's interesting you should ask that as I was riding it a lot yesterday and was trying to work it out based on the range it was showing me - at best with a fully topped up tank I saw a range of 189 miles, but as soon as I started riding a little more aggressively it dropped to 140....so let's assume about 165 in reality. Certainly seems better than my older 2012 model...

Dougie I've ridden them back to back and the RS stole the show.

Thanks Adam, the lighter bike does sound more appealing to me. I'm guessing TMF you're an MT10 convert over the Striple? But then you own and have ridden one for some time and something completely new/different in the garage is always a good idea.

Well I do love the Street Triple as you know, but you're probably right, the Yamaha is a totally different riding experience.....

The choice of colours is one of my main gripes about the new street triple r the white looks real mundane plus the matt silver and black colours do nothing for me at all probably stop me from upgrading my 2012 model.Had a test ride and thought triumph have done a great job upgrading the bike.
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 7 лет назад
Yes I 100% agree on that, the paint scheme is a real disappointment to me too - not a patch on my gloss black and gold 2012 STR...but as you say, Triumph have done a great job on how this thing rides in comparison....
@Ndeasington
@Ndeasington 7 лет назад
Only gripes I have after test riding it the other day are that :- 1. The stand is a bit fiddly to get your foot on when trying to put it down (would be better putting a little tang on it like the Speed Triple has) 2. It's hard to 'feel' that you have in fact contacted and put on the indicators (there's no positive 'click' so I found myself always looking down at the screen to ensure they are in fact on) 3. If you buy the tail tidy then you have to also buy the led indicator which is an additional £70 for the pair and then you would simply have to buy the front pair too (I have OCD so would HAVE to buy the front pair!!) So that's another £140 before fitting. A bit cheeky if you ask me as no one in their right mind would live with the rear cluster-f*** that is there from factory (see what I did there?) 🤣 4. There's isn't a 4 from me.........it's bloody lovely. I could see that I may get a bit 'precious' about it if/when I buy one..........oh well 😊🏍💨🌧

I would love to get one but not sure what the insurance hike is going to be compared to the old model. Would be interested if you keep comparing it to the old model as you have a good reference. Also talking about handling and feel everybody should get their suspension professionally set. I had my street triple R set for my riding style and weight and the difference was extraordinary it was like a different bike the feel and handling was superb. The best spend 60 quid. At the end thieves enjoyed though:( I do it with every bike now the second I buy it.

So let's examine the term pokey...... is it torque or power (hp) ? I would say torque.... isn't it when something moves a bit faster or harder than you expected. A pleasurable experience. I am talking bollocks.
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 7 лет назад
I think pokey is more of a blend of torque and power - yes, torque+power=total poke

Never really been one to say whether a certain bike is good for new riders or not. Seen some pretty awful experienced riders. It's down to the individual and their capabilities to be honest
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 7 лет назад
Very true, but generally speaking my view is very new riders should start on lower power machines for a few months to learn their craft....100bhp + new rider = Trouble

@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 7 лет назад
Hmm, think the Tuono would probably win that one....
@jerryx2000
@jerryx2000 7 лет назад
are you sure about that? The Tuono weighs 215 kg & the STR 186kg. In tight twisties the STR will win. Only on open race tracks & roads with a better rider the Tuono would win. But would you want to risk your life for that?

Just bought an R. Delivers next week. Conflicted about selling (trading) my Monster 1200 though. If I let go of the Monster it'll be the first time in years there won't be a Ducati in the garage. I also have a Ninja for a daily. I fear I'll miss the snark of the Ducati but who needs three bikes? 😎
