At my Costco (idk if every Costco is the same) they have huge totes right now, black with yellow lids, that are only $8 and are stackable...just a mom tip since ya mentioned totes gardening. :) Great video!
Thanks so much👍👍👍 Those stackable totes I would recommend in the 18 gallon size for container gardening as well as FOOD STORAGE! The smaller size ones will be much easier to lift and move around and therefore won't get cracked as easily.
The current price on Amazon charges about 3-4 times what I pay locally (Central Florida) for a 50 lb bag of Michigan black beans. I get mine at a local ethnic foods grocery store, (El Presidents is the name of the store) for $35 on sale and pick up a 20 lb bag of rice for $7 with any purchase over $20 (limit one per purchase). It's generally a Hispanic and island foods store, and they have lots of dry goods in 20 lb and 50 lb sized bags. You really have to stick to the sales to get good prices, but if you do, you can really stock up on the cheap! Also, the local tractor "stuff" company, has whole oats and dried corn in 50 lb bags for under $25 in their livestock feed area, but it's pure oats / oat groats and whole dried corn and you can cook them up. It might be a nuisance to go and pick it up, but the grocery store opens at 7, so I can go in, get it, load up my car with more than one would think it can (or should) hold, and head home before it gets busy. Just a heads up for people to check out their local ethnic foods grocery stores and their livestock supply places for some great stock up opportunities at potentially great savings. Enjoy!
I researched corn growing a tiny bit and ive seen that people are getting higher yields by planting deeper than recommended...one suggested 2" and the other 2.5",3 ...they said it takes longer to come up but they come up more uniformly so sun competition is reduced thus produce more, besides that it seems they need about 1sqft of space per plant and need to be in at least 4 rows to pollinate...God Bless Everyone's Garden
Be sure your generous neighbors didn’t wash the eggs if you plan to water glass them. They have to have the bloom on the eggs to make this method of preservation effective.
Unfortunately Azure is just not a good option for everyone. With high gas prices, that price difference is gone by the time I drive to the Azure pick up location.
Put your natural peanut butter in a food processor to incorporate the oil back in. It'll stay that way until you eat it. 👍🏻. Much easier than stirring yourself.
You can also store your peanut butter upside down so the oil floats to the bottom of the jar. When you open it up, if you don't mind a slightly stiff pb, you don't have to stir.
@@girgriffin4902 we do store it upside down, but it still doesn't incorporate the oils back in. The easiest solution is to put it in a food processor and process then put back into the jar.
I would have liked to know the cost of your individual products at the time you purchased. I price compare my bulk purchasers and it’s been almost depressing to see how fast certain items are increasing.
I've waterglassed eggs with lime. I've had varying results. Don't use one big vessel to store them. If/when (it'll happen) one breaks or bursts in the vessel, you have to throw them all away. I use gallon jars. The kids notice a difference in taste when cooked. We don't taste a difference in taste in baked goods.
I don’t think Amazon is a good place to stock up from. My experience is their stuff outdated very soon-so if it’s going to be used quickly but not for months stock.
I just tried to reorder my coffee from Amazon and it wouldn't process my order bc I'm at my limit. I ordered 4 the other day but I had never ordered any from them before just trying to buy some for my pantry and thought I would go ahead and double up 😳 for how long it did not say week? month? year? I thought that was strange and a tell tell sign of the level of supplies we have. Just giving you a heads up in case you need to get something bc time is running out. God Bless 🙏🏽
Awesome haul!! Thanks TexasMom for sharing. We’ve been slowly building up over here our working backstock or home store whatever fits you best. Gonna start adding in herbs and spices for seasoning to the stock. Also starting herbs in the garden this year.
We have a local store called "dollar stretcher" and they are an off brand bulk store that carries kirkland and other bulk foods. We are able to ask the owner to order any of the bulk foods for us that their suppliers carry. That might be an option for you guys if you can find a similar store in your area, if you are having a hard time finding bulk foods.
@@juliabrown5948 Yeah, it's really great. We can order cases of things too. Like canned goods and peanut butter. A lot of things the store doesn't even keep on hand like 50 pound bags of lentils and beans and wheat berries we are able to order too.
Love your videos. I’m just curious as to why you don’t use Azure. Didn’t know if there wasn’t a drop near you or if you have had a bad experience. I was going to buy the oats from your link but they are literally over twice as much on Amazon.
What kind of vanilla extract do yall use? Just curious if you go with imitation to stock up because of cost or you get the real thing. I havent looked into health benefits/adverse side effects etc. But since I have been following your stock ups I figured I would ask 🥰
Just my 2 cents. I'm not a prepper but I've stocked up on some food these last 2 years and most of these items are way over priced. If you want to pay that and can afford it by all means but I don't think it's the most frugal or thrifty way to go about it. Azure standard (though now many people have become aware of the company so many things can be out of stock at certain times and with the fire) ive gotten many of these items for under 100 dollars. I think Amazon is probably not the smartest route to go if you can help it.
Good morning! Those are some great things to have! I am blessed to have a very local business, owned by the German Baptist, that carries bulk flours and oats. They have the same bag of oats that you got.
We grew corn at our house in the Appalachians last year, but just for seed. Now, we're going to grow a lot! Our cantaloupes, strawberries, & peppers are just starting to pop up, & lots of things are going into the big garden next week as we prepare to move there full-time! Can't wait bc we're getting some chickens 1st thing! Love your channel- newish sub!
Hey Kimber, I keep a notebook with my entire home inventory in it. I have a list of every product, where I bought it, the date, and the price per ounce or pound. After a while, you start to memorize the pricing. That being said, inflation is here to stay for a while and pricing has been so all over the map for the past two years that you really have to pay attention to your products and what your buying. Also it's important to know what's "important" to you...is 100% organic important or not so much. It's going to be different for every family. I will try to incorporate this "baseline pricing" into my upcoming video on basic foods to prep. thanks so much for stopping by today, and I do truly appreciate the feed back~TM
If you are looking to get ideas now on what my price per pound/ounce pricing is you can click on the Amazon links and you will see the pricing. These are all recent purchases that I've made so that will give you some sort of "baseline numbers" to get started.😊
We have shopped Azure and once you factor in the 8% and the odds of you actually getting what you order and the travel time and gas it’s not cheaper by a wide margin
Plus with Azure, you don’t get to return bad bulk products, even if they acknowledge “Oh, yeah, those taste like vomit, I don’t know why.” Bye bye hundreds of $
I’ve had nothing but great luck with Azure beans and wheat. The black beans come in 25 lb bags for around $45 I think. PLUS they’re organic and they’ve always come in pristine condition and very clean. I don’t use Azure for all things, but the beans, wheat, whole dry corn and oats have been wonderful.
absolutely! another reason why I'm excited to grow our own corn this year. I bought heirloom so we can keep the seeds. My son, Buddy, has been reading a lot about Native Americans , and my great grandmother on my mom's side was Blackfoot Indian. So, this has all been good reminders for me to prep corn, squash, etc the things that people understood to grow and store years ago. thanks so much for stopping by~TexasMom
@@TheTexasBoys You may already know this, but if you are going to save the seed, make sure to plant the different varieties at least a month apart so they won’t cross pollinate. If you save the seed from a cross pollinated corn cob and plant those it will produce corn that is a mixed variety of the parents (like a hard sweet corn).🌽
I won’t buy food from Amazon. The reason is not their products it’s because the delivery guy will not get out and open the gate into our property. Our house is about a quarter of a mile from the highway. You can not see or house from the road so we can’t see if packages has been dropped off. I’ve talked to one of the drivers and he said he’d send me a text message when he leaves anything at the gate. But the problem is if there’s another driver they don’t.
May I ask how did you store the corn? I heard that we cannot use oxygen absorbers since their moisture level is at 15.5%. They, might develop botulism... And I am so discourage by it because that is how I stored 200 lbs and now I have to throw it away "(
I am so confused, on all other preppers lists, 3 of your items are not a long term storage item. Oats, peanut butter, and brown rice. I am new to this channel, so I don’t know your particular information, but will you use this right away ? How are you going to keep it ?
Great video. So, you probably know this….but I must plant your popcorn a ways away from your eating corn or it will cross pollinate. Hahahaha you don’t want thst to happen. Thank you for your channel
Great tip Julie, we don't have any Mennonite or Amish anywhere close to us. I have made my own peanutbutter in the past on demand. Its really easy just add nuts(of any kind) to a food processer. Blend. I havent researched how long you can store fresh peanutbutter for before it goes rancid. I know peanuts can't be stored super long either.
I just called Grain Millers & they don’t sell retail…they only sell wholesale. So did you buy your 50 lb bags of oats from a distributor, like Azure Standard?
I appreciate the video with different online recommendations especially us companies with food grown in us or other countries with verifiable growing practices and soil quality data. I like being able to identify where food we eat is grown:) good point about having food delivered to your door with gas prices.
Bulk foods are not always "cheaper" you have to always shop price/pound or price/ounce. Eating a whole foods diet will always be more expensive than processed cheap foods. However, you have to consider it from different points.
Can you kindly let me know where you purchased those extra large storage containers seen in prior video (can't find) I remember that you used one for oats that you poured in and them screwed on lid and one next to it I believe you put in bags of food for later use. Thank you on advance
I'm vegan and stocked up on organic vegan protein powders in big tubs, peanut butter in tubs and 3 kilos of cacao paste to make protein balls if SHTF. Food shortages is concerning for a vegan, I've been prepping for months. I'm in UK and shortage of cooking oils and diesel (gas).
Ooooh I’d like to have your recipe using oats in vegan cheese sauce! I’m raising my little granddaughter and that would be great for her. We are vegan. 😃👍🏻
great video, what latitude or longitude are y'all on, cause then I know if I can grow when or what y'all grow, cause I'm a gardening newbie ,but i was told what ever is on our same latitude across the world map ,whatever matches ours we can grow what they can for most part...thanks y'all
I buy the Great Value Yellow Popping Corn which is also non- GMO. It is 5.7 cents per ounce (as opposed to the Great Northern Popcorn which is 10 cents an ounce)
What about quinoa? We have tons of rice but I have to think about my GF daughter. I am starting to grow grains but living in zone 6a doesn't give me a super long growing season, so this is a test run year for me.
Hey Kristie, you can be sure to check if the Oats are processed in a gluten free plant...they will say specifically Gluten Free Oats if her allergy is that severe. Yes! Absolutely! Quinoa is a wonderful protein source and amazing BULK FOOD PREP! I have a large container full. You can't also add Quinoa to your high powered blender and make a lovely flour with it! It bakes very nicely in most recipes. Also look into the multi colored quinoa and also red quinoa for more health benefits.
