Fantastic Advice. I once bought a house, sight unseen, at a steep discount. It needed an incredible amount of work. Still had an old fuse box with some knob and tube wiring. We had to rewire most of the house. There was a dead mouse in the fuse box too. Quite the experience. Now it's a high quality student house, so it all worked out.
Shorty electrical work drive me crazy and it’s scary. So many times watching your guises show we have seen horrible pot light work, the wrong ones and wire wrong and the fire hazard that they can cause.
Rule #1 don't follow bad Candian method if installing circuit breaker panels sideways. Dangerous due to halve of the breakers while in off position would be a USA NEC violation for last 80 years because if something fell onto one if these breakers circuit would be energized.I follow LOTTO and install a lock & tag on every circuit breaker that is off.

What's the deal with mounting circuit breaker panels horizontal instead of vertical. I saw this many times when watching the Holmes on Homes show. It must be a Canadian thing. I was in the electrical trade for over 31 years and never ever mounted a panel that way and never ever saw a panel mounted that way. Can someone explain!
As a retired Electrician, I've seen each and everyone of these screw up's you have shown on Your TV show and then some. Why does this happen, people are cheap. I can't count how many times I heard " That much money to hook up a couple of wires? "
