I think these same practices can be applied to many if not all of the bowling techniques. I’ve switch from conventional to 1 hand no thumb and my wife has started bowling just over a year ago and these will help her too 😁
Outstanding lesson thanks Packy! I switched to 2 hands at age 45 and this video hits all of the things I'm struggling with at times, esp falling off the shot. Your physical game is really consistent, now I have some ideas on getting there. Thanks!!
This is relevant for ANY bowler. This was excellent. I greatly appreciated the comments about not caring about the pin fall on some of the drills and about posting your shot till the ball hits the pins.
thanks so much for all this information packy. love your videos so much and i couldn’t ask for more than what you’ve provided through your videos. again, thanks 🙏 ❤
Best video you've posted in awhile! Great content! You beat me to the punch when you were talking about consistent speed with each step on the approach. I wondered about how the stutter step fit into that and whether that would be considered an "increase" in speed, but as soon as I started thinking it, you addressed it. Thanks for this video! This was great stuff.
I struggle a lot on my approach ever since I was a kid I’ve always started at the back set of dots so I take like an 8 step approach and I can’t break that habit but I’m glad u threw in the tip about keeping ur speed consistent because I start slow then speed up towards the foul line and my throws r very inconsistent so can’t wait to put some of these tips to work thanks
As a 2 handed bowler that bowls in PBA regionals, I've been struggling a bit with my physical game and this video helped remind me what I've been forgetting in my practice sessions! Slow approach (for warmup) and a HUGE focus on stability/consistency over down lane results. Thanks Packy!
This is definitely what I've been wanting. There's not enough out there to show you how to practice as a two hander. All I ever hear is speed up the feet and have a hop/power step into the slide. Can't wait to hit the lanes and practice this!
i needed this. i’ve been pretty good with my bowling started my two handed sbojt a year ago now and i’m up to a 200. i’ve always had a problem with staying behind the ball and would come around so thank you
Totally going to do the 4 and a half steps back from the foul line tip! I start at the dots furthest back and just noticed tonight how far back from the foul line I release the ball.
Thanks for this video. I have been back into bowling for about a year after a long layoff. I used to throw one hand no thumb back then. When I came back to it I went straight to 2 handed. I am pretty good at tip #1. I feel like 2 and 3 is where I struggle the most. I fall off quite a bit
I am in the same boat right now I used to bowl one-handed with no thumb, but I just got my first ball and decided I want to start bowling to handed miss video. Seems like it’s really going to help but I’m not exactly sure what to do with my left hand as I’m a right hand, dominant bowler.
thanks so much coach! I was a single handed bowler up till my thumb injury. now im relearning through two handed bowling. it feels really hard but with all these tips I'm gonna try do better :)
I switched to two handed for my strike ball recently and one of the things I have had to learn is even though I have a higher RPM now I still need to be careful around the gutter, I have had many balls fall in because I played on that edge and with my ball speed my ball never had the time to hook and stay on the lane so now I play more inside.
Awesome tips here for sure. Especially the footwork. That timing is golden and helps you analyze shots so much easier. Quick question, wonder if anyone can chime in on this. When finishing the slide, where is the best target of where your slide foot should be behind the foul line? I feel like if I'm too close to it, screws me up. I like sliding in just before dots behind foul lines. Lmk what you all think.
Love the video and the tips. This will really help my practice. With videos like this one.... I would really like to see slow motion. Especially with the end of the approach and the release followed by ball motion to the pins. It happens so fast. Slow motion would help a lot.
I would like to give you a big thank you for doing this video. My 17 daughter Faith Roper has been doing these tips at practice, and today in the first game of league she rolled a nice 252. Thank you!
Dude u can't thank you enough im a high school bowler and I thought I didn't have an issue with my head stability but I saw a video of me bowling and I dip my head alot when I bowl so for the past 2 days I've bowled lower to try and stay more stable and finally brought my average back up for a few games instead being 170 I shot multiple 200 like it was nothing thank you so much
I love this video, especially as a two hander myself. I definitely struggle with my staying focus all the way through my shot, as well as my hand placement. For me throughout the day (especially on league days), I'll do air releases focusing on keeping my hand underneath/on the backside of the ball. As for remaing focusing throughout my release, I'm Curious to hear if people have issue I have. I wear glasses, and often times I find that the frame of my glasses will get block my view. I try to push them up all the way on my face, and I also got wider frames. I am thinking about getting contacts, so that my entire view won't be blocked by my frames. Also I apologize for the super long post. Merry Christmas all 🎅 ⛄️☃️⛄️☃️🎁🎁⛄️☃️
best 2hand or een 1 hand bowlingguide i seen / tha part about the steps getting mixed up / its funny bc like for some unknown reason i always start with a baby step tbh its more like a half step then i stop for just a sec then i do my 5 step / im pretty smooth through out the whole thing but its something i have always tried to get my self to stop and cant seem to :/ lol thanks for the video!!
Great great tips! I have always bowled one handed and for the first time ever I tried two handed just yesterday. I just wanted to see if I could do it. I have to say that it felt very awkward and I was not sure if I was going to kill myself falling over my own feet.:) For me two handed is very odd because when I bowl one handed (righty) I have a very high, almost over my head backswing so you can imagine how it feels for me to try two handed bowling. I will put these 5 practice methods to use the next time I try two handed, thanks Packy, I watch you and all the other House bowlers all the time.
I just started bowling again after a 35+ year break due to injuries and two back surgeries and I’m so glad that I finally can bowl again at the age of 68. My youngest son has never been good at bowling, but he’s happy to go with me when we get to see each other and after our last bowling session together I suggested that he study some RU-vid videos on two handed bowling and try it out the next time we bowled together. Well that opportunity happened a couple days ago and he adjusted to using two hands really fast. His normal bowling average had been about 110, to 130 bowling one handed, and his first attempt at bowling two handed he threw a 211 on just his fourth game, and was very happy with his progress and he’s looking forward to bowling more often now. I’m very happy for him as well and I look forward to taking him bowling with me as often as I can (we live 750 miles apart).
Packy! I would love to see a video about lofting. We just went and bowled a few games and the lanes where soooooo dry. I was having the hardest time keeping an electrify on the right side. So I started trying to loft the ball.
I needed this because I'm planning on switching to two handed bowling because currently I'm a one handed bowler so this was help (ps: I'm right handed) so I have to do the samething but right handed
So question: I understand keeping your hand up the back of the ball and really rolling the bowl over instead of barreling it…but is the tip you gave to basically keep your degree of axis rotation low? I watch 2h lefty’s like Jesper and Keven, both of whom have seemingly high degrees of axis rotation, and are really effective. Is this just the type of move veterans can make once they’ve achieved a true consistent throw? I could def see how an amateur 2her would overfocus on spinning the ball at 90degrees of axis rotation, thinking that’s the primary factor of a good hook and good shot
Hello, Packy Loving the videos! Im also a two-handed lefty bowler and I am looking for some ball and drilling recommendations. I currently switched to a Phaze 5 with left-handed drill pattern. I was wondering if a proton Physix would be a better ball. My approach is almost identical to yours.
The last tip helped me so much I've recently switched to 2 handed and my speed has been messing me up and I couldn't throw it faster without being inconsistent because I had my elbows all the way down below my hip so next time I bowl I'm going to find a better position for my push away and hopefully moment helps me
Super useful video right here packy!! Also I wanted to ask have you ever considered making a discord? For things bowling related and giveaway related, talking to fans, etc Also good stuff on the 90k 😎
Im finnaly gonna do it im gonna go to the alley buy 5 games to start and im just gonna work on individual parts of my game and improve im already okay at bowling i just need to figure out consistency
Hey packy. I’ve been thinking about trying to change my feet on the approach. I have trouble opening my hips in a straight stance so I’ve recently changed to starting facing almost sideways and I’ve seen score improvement (233) yesterday and my first 5 two hundreds the last month. Should I switch back and look to fix my feet or just go with what’s working right now
Really Packy that is what many to most Pro-bowlers have the biggest trouble with the total end over end roll to not hook the ball at all with the reeving ball. I say Anthony Smionsen is the BEST at it among many other ways Anthony throws the balls.
Hey Packy! I have been trying to practice 2 hand bowling for a bit, grew up throwing it one handed. One huge problem I’ve noticed is that the shortened swing really throws off my timing. My feet are getting to the line after my hands. I know you haven’t seen me bowl, but any tips? I have a 5 step approach and push away on my second step, my feet are faster 2 handed than 1 handed but it still doesn’t seem to matter. Maybe my arms are too short 😂
I know you probably don't get this question often, but do you (or anyone in comments) have any tips for improving arm strength for bowling. I am disabled and need hip replacements so I can't work out like a healthy person would. I have had much better success using a 15 pound ball vs my 12 pound. However I notice I lose power as I get into games 2 and 3, which causes issues for me. I feel like its mainly my forearm, but cant hurt to work my entire arm. So its clarified, I walk to the foul line and just throw from there as I cant make use of the approach. So all my power or lack there of, comes from my arm and no momentum.
that body stability tip is very important, it causes more accuracy and less prone to injury, a good way to train that is to put a shammy on the head and have it not fall off
How do you go about learning to convert to 2 handed, I normally bowl 5step one handed but I have weaker wrists so I never get my hand in a proper position behind the ball so I just give up a ton of potential power, but whenever I try 2handed I have no idea how I’m even supposed to do the approach, it just always feels super awkward and I can’t get any speed on the ball, how do I go about developing a 2handed approach
