For any south coast of England viewers, there's this amazing shop called "That Shop" in Cowes, Isle of Wight. They have tons of discontinued Lego sets and minifigs
I like the way this guy talks. In fact I’d even say: “This gentleman is a straight up LEGO Savage, and I love it”. (Line from some un-made LEGO Collector Film). 🤘😃
I recently got back into lego, and I really enjoy your advices on buying cheap lego sets. Thank you a lot and please keep up the videos on lego and trains!
Wanted to add some advice for those wanting to find deals from retailers online. HotUKDeals (for those in the UK) very often reports of incredible deals on LEGO sets and voucher codes you can use to get even further discounts. For example, just a few weeks ago, I saw the LEGO Technic Porsche (RRP of £260) on offer for under £120 on HotUKDeals (via Argos and some additional discount codes). Also, a very important website to use is UK Camel Camel Camel (a strange name I know). This site allows you to track prices on Amazon and see what the cheapest price has ever been for an item (all items, including LEGO). But most importantly, it allows you to save items to your wishlist and set a desired price for that item, and the site will email you/notify you when that item drops below your desired price.
UK Camel came good for me again yesterday. I had the new X-Wing saved with a desired price of £60 (it's 89.99 RRP), and yesterday I got an email alert telling me it was now £53.99 on Amazon. Bought it immediately! Can't complain at 40% off the RRP.
Well one tip that I use is i look for sets on Skroutz is basically en app or website that show you the prices of stuff online you can get some very good stuff in there
I find it very difficult to find discounts in large retailers in the UK. I mean, I'll keep an eye on Argos to see those deals but I find it very difficult to look for any good/worth while deals. Is it just me?
We posted this comment on an older video about the top 10 alternates to Lego, but my son wanted to make sure you saw it, so we are commenting here on your most recent video too. Thanks Hey there! I have a question from my 11 year old son. He is doing a science project about Lego. He want to find out what other brands are compatible with Lego. Your videos have been very helpful. What kinds of tests could he do to compare the brands we find? Or what kind of tests did you do to compare the brands? In our local stores we found Laser Pegs, Cobi and Max building bricks. Is there a scenario in which you think the other brands bricks would be preferable to Lego bricks? Thanks for all the information in your videos! They have been great!
Hi, thanks to you and are your son for your questions. Some basic comparisons are 1) price 2) value - number of parts per dollar 3) variety - number of sets that the company has for sale. You could also compare the bricks themselves. 1) Clutch power - can you stick two bricks together (either LEGO or another brand), shake them and have them not fall apart? 2) Colour - For each brand, are bricks of the same colour all the same, and do they have the same shiny/matte finish? 3) Follow the instructions - Are there any mistakes in the instructions which stop you from building the models? Finally, if a brick company has a feature which LEGO does not have (e.g Laser Pegs has light up bricks!) or the company sells types of sets which LEGO does not (e.g. Cobi sell tanks), then in those cases some people may prefer the alternative to LEGO. Good luck!
A new way to get sets and parts here in the US have started blooming. Independent Buy, sell, and trade used Lego stores are popping up. They are like having a physical Bricklink store. I have found and purchased many parts from them saving shipping costs. Their inventory rolls over often. I have sold them a few sets as well, granted not given full value of set but they give you a higher amount when going with store credit. Once I took in a set they gave me $25 in store credit. I shopped around and walked out with about $40 worth of parts since I come in so often. That had been one of my ideas about 20 years ago was to open a similar type store. Still might since the store I visit is 30 miles away.
I have watched your lepin vs lego discussion, i feel agreeable as lepin is not license or patented or ?? whatever to produce a product and is unfair for Lego who produce bricks in many years. I am Gundam Model kit (known as Gunpla) collector and I dislike those counterfeit Gunpla as their molding is inaccurate and really bad quality, eat the profit for Bandai and lastly is cannot go for competition. I willing to spend more money to buy original instead of fake product
Hi, do you have any tips for mass purchase of bricks for uses in MOCs and things like that? I always see people with gigantic builds using hundreds of specific bricks, and I have no clue how to get that many.
This what happens when you milk a video topic one week after another Dr. Jake; lower and lower views. Suggestions for next video: any video without lego cheap anything as or in the video topic. Just a suggestion.
Dr Jake's Very British Reviews yeah, that's what clickbait is for. Like not naming your video: "how to use bricklinck to piece togheter lego sets with used bricks" but naming it "buying lego sets cheap"
What is your opinion on buying LEGO baseplates? Because the official ones are quite pricey but the knock off plates cost around 3-4 times cheaper and some of them fit very well with LEGO pieces
