As a heavy duty mechanic I’ve spent years slowly “self teaching” welding off of various RU-vid videos and hands on experience. I’ve gotten pretty comfortable with a torch would like to pick up a scarfing tip one day. Thanks for the tips. PS, I’ll forgive you about the comment on the shitty dump truck welds being done by “some fuckin mechanic” 😅😅

I honestly could weld a pecker on a snowman, but my torch game sucks. Short of gouging out welds I never touch the torch. Maybe before I retire I’ll get better at it. Videos like this are what people should be watching to learn how real skills are developed.

Anthony, FYI oxygen cylinders are charged to around 2200 psi at room temperature. A small leak, especially at the high pressure side of the regulator, would possibly ignite oil or grease if present. The ignition occurs from the extreme FRICTION caused by the high pressure oxygen flowing across the oil. The oil ignites causing the brass, cast steel, rubber, etc to also ignite. This all happens in an instant with a violent explosion causing more pure oxygen being added to the atmosphere. Now there is a total hell storm. Work safe.

You ain’t kidding Anthony! I’m an assistant welding instructor and man every year it never fails. All the students want to do is learn to weld plate and pipe. And never show interest or practice on the torch. And in this business, 90% of the weld is your cut. I recommend the oxy fuel settings at oxy 20-25psi and acetylene 5-6psi. Now that’s for general use, for thicker steel, adjust accordingly. Air Arc Gouging is rough on welding machines. Need a 350 amp and up machine. And shout out to I C Weld 🤘🏾

I use a metal retractable key chain to hang my striker to my belt loop with. I work in some tight places and a carabiner doesn't give if I hang my striker up on something. Also, I'm right handed and adjust the oxygen and acetylene knobs with my left hand so find it more comfortable to hang my striker on my left side so I'm not reaching across my body every time I light my torch.

Anthony have you ever thought of outfitting a welding trailer to tow behind your truck on bigger welding jobs? having a covered trailer set up as a metalworking shop may be nice if your job requires more fab type work. Having a metal chop saw/grinder etc would make some jobs a bit easier too(hint-buy the biggest trailer your truck can pull cause once you start filling it with tools it will always be too small-good place to store your backup welder/generator too!)

You can bring value to our lives by telling us about that green maybe 77 F-100 or F-150!!! Also you dont put petroleum products on torch stuff cuz of the oxygen and it could cause and explosion. Along with welding inspections I do O2 cleans on vavles and stuff like that. You take a black light and look for grease and lint. Anything that oxygen could could cause ignition from going through a valve (like on your bottle with the regulator) and the oxygen could cause heat source from going through those valves and such. Then with the petroleum products , it can explode . It does happen and you can do more googling for more info .

You still hold your torch too close to your material. I get it. You were probably trained that way, I know I was. The cones become a cut guide (crutch). That 3/4 plate you cut. The near end when you lifted your torch. It looks better. Spend a lot less time cleaning tips too. One thing Issac taught me. Leave the standard torch on the truck. He only breaks it out for due to space constraints.
