A very useful and practical topic. Thanks. I wish that you had at least briefly identified your #2 & #3 picks for each category. Viewers would learn more if you had included that extra useful detail. Keep up the good work. Surprised by the Stumpy being #1 for the high end. I own that bike (2023, S5, 200 lbs). It bobs like crazy in out-of-the-saddle climbing, even in a more locked-out setting. That is the bike's big weakness. I feel like the bike demands that I remain seated in climbs. Annoying. Not certain why it is this way with this bike.

I love videos like this that put different bikes head to head to determine which gives the best value! I have to disagree on your first selection though. The rift zone 1 is leagues behind the polygon T7. The Marin has worse wheels, unacceptably poor brakes, no dropper post, lower quality suspension, lower spec drivetrain and worst of all a quick release rear axle. The Marin is going to need upgraded brakes ($150-250) and a dropper post ($150-250) right away by anyone except the most inexperienced riders. The T7 is head and shoulders above any bike in its price range, which is why I bought one for my kid when it was on sale for $1730 CAD last Fall.
@99spokes
@99spokes 3 месяца назад
Glad you liked the video! Yeah, you’ll always get a better spec on a D2C company like Polygon or YT, but like we said in the video we chose the Marin for our lowest price category because there’s a good chance this will be someone’s first bike, and having the support from the local bike shop where you bought it is pretty helpful for beginners!
@jasonsheridan6222
@jasonsheridan6222 2 месяца назад
@@99spokes Good point about a beginner using a local shop, but you could get a LOT of service done to a Polygon for the cost to make all the upgrades I mentioned on the T7. In Canada the Polygon is sold through a local retailer so not an deciding factor here.

Will I be able to put together a T7 on my own with little experience or should I have a local shop do it? Im curious how much I need to put together out of the box? As of the making of this video, in the 2k - 3k price range Giant is selling the Trance X 29 1 for $2850. That comes with a Fox rear shock and a Fox 36 fork. Also comes with Shimano SLX drivetrain. You would be an absolute fool to take the YT over that, the Fezzari and Canyon runners-up don’t compare either. I get so sick and tired of seeing DTC trash always being featured in these videos. Must be paid advertising. Makes no sense any other way. In the 3k - 5k category, picking any alloy bike over the numerous carbon choices out there in this current state of reduced/sale price the industry is in is just confusing. And the runners-up are all alloy too. Again, very confusing. You completely lost me by naming a Specialized at the top of the 8k+ category. Naming a Switchblade as runner up? Really? No mention of Evil. No mention of Revel. Santa Cruz and Rocky Mountain? Literally the most predictable and uninspired video I’ve watched in a while. I’m not trying to be a douche, this is just so bad. It’s hard to take anything in this video seriously after that.
