In today's tutorial, I break down my top 5 techniques that you can use to keep your Mountain Bike running as silent as possible. Personally, I find riding a quiet bike to be very satisfying and really help me out on the trail. We start off with discussing the importance of washing your bike and then dive into the reasons to keep your chain lubed. While those two points may seem surface-level, they are vital to keeping your bike in top shape. Next up, we dive into how to keep your brakes from rubbing, discuss frame protection, and wrap up with torquing linkage bolts. If there is anything I missed that works for you to keep your MTB quiet, please let me know in the comments!

I like using silicone fusing tape to wrap cockpit cables together. Non Adhesive and sets up a pretty permanent bond, cheap, so I don't mind cutting it if I have to do cable replacements, comes in diff colors too.

I would recommend wax lube, which will protect your entire chain. No lube on the side of the chain is asking for a rust problem

The rattling of internally routed hydraulic brake hoses and shift cables within the frame (Me: Nukeproof Reactor, full carbon frame, Factory) is a little more challenging to silence, but so worth it and satisfying when its done! Foam tubing, or similar, over the internal lines definitely works. But if you haven't tried Nerf darts with the tips cut off, or thought about cutting long strips out of a pool noodle, have you really tried everything??😂👍‼
@PeterJamison

😂😂 foam tubing works well for that!

I use Lubriplate chain and cable fluid on the chain and let it soak over night. Wipe down next day. This is a penetrating oil so the rollers are lubricated inside!

How to make the hub more quiet?
@PeterJamison

Best way to do that is to use a heavy weight grease 👍🏼 But you need to be careful not to go too heavy and cause your hub to stop engaging 🤘🏼

Regarding adjusting brake caliper position, the system they’ve designed is super annoying. All the little washers and spacers just make it difficult to keep the caliper position steady while tightening. Engineers have failed us on that one
@PeterJamison
@PeterJamison 8 месяцев назад
Sorry to hear about your struggles! If you have the washers arranged correctly you should have no problem 👍🏼 Might be worth looking into picking up a new brake adapter and seeing if it solves your problem 💯 Hope this helps!

I ride my bike right after lubing so it will be shifted either way. I leave the bike in last gear out of habit since a mechanic once told me that my derailleur broke possibly from being left on a bigger cog a lot of something. Frankly neither of know what happened there but if it might've been the problem I'll just avoid it. But that means the moment I ride I will be shifting it 3 gears up. My main bike's noise issue was from the linkage bearings. The other one just has a rattly wheel, axle is tight, it really just has weird issues.
@PeterJamison
@PeterJamison 8 месяцев назад
Sorry to here about your troubles!
@Rose_Butterfly98
@Rose_Butterfly98 8 месяцев назад
@@PeterJamison but does that actually hold true? Do you also leave your bikes in last gear after riding?
@PeterJamison
@PeterJamison 7 месяцев назад
@@Rose_Butterfly98 Personally I have never heard of that and I don't actually think about what gear my bike is in when I put it away. Leaving your bike in the easiest gear will have the derailleur more stretched out which could maybe cause wear over time, but I am not too certain. Hope this helps!
@Rose_Butterfly98

@@PeterJamison Thanks for the information. I'm starting to doubt that was the issue seeing as it broke in under a year
@PeterJamison

@@Maxi-nt5hr Yep, the size medium tues has a reach of 429mm which is very short and would be considered a small by most brands. If you want something super small and easy to move around, you could go that route. But as an all around DH bike I would suggest considering the large 💯
