I bought my Mustang 50 to replace my "almost: ru-vid.comUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend worn out John Deere L120 (48" Cut - 20 HP Briggs). First off - I can now mow my almost 3 acres in about 1/2 the time it took with my other mower... I have had the Mustang 50 for almost 2 years now... Maintenance is easy - the Kohler Motor is "out in the open" and everything, except for the oil filter, is VERY easy to get to... To change the oil filter I have learned to fold the seat forward - no problem now... The deck is SUPER easy to drop... Rememb..
After working at the John Deere plant in Greeneville, Tennessee a few years back, I will say a strong NO for their mowers. Too many discrepancies in the manufacturing process and after seeing how a vendor issue was handled I will never buy another JD product. I ended up buying a Craftsman Z560 zero turn two years ago, and I must say I have been well pleased with it thus far. And with my military discount at Lowes, I came in just over $2800.
Husqvarna is good price but i would recommend another zero turn! The wheels are very beefy on the husqvarna and u would think it wouldn’t spin out / get stuck as much but mine will spin out even on small hills .
@@petersack5074 let me rephrase, husqvarna will spin out even on flat ground that’s mildly damp. I’ve owned quite a few zero turns and from my opinion - it’s just not worth it even if it’s on the more affordable side.
What makes a 10 gauge stamped deck inferior to a 10 gauge fabricated deck? I would think that weld points are weaker, and the more box type configuration being less aerodynamic for the grass flow.
Every mower listed here is 1000 more than quoted. Well at least the first one. The Deere price is right for a 42 inch. Why on a zero turn would you ever need an armrest?
Have a bad boy residential with a 54 inch deck and 725 Kohler! I've had it for about 8 years and it still has the original battery and blades. Battery is done now and blades need sharpening but it's been nothing but awesome!
I love my Bad boy. 7 years old and rock solid. Serviced once a year in the spring. On my third battery and new blades every year. But I do have a six acre yard.
My grand father has had his gravely for 15 years. It’s commercial not residential and it has been under water for 4 days when it flooded, and still runs to this day. When buying a mower for your home. Without a doubt by a commercial they last twice as long and are worth the money. Never buy a stamp deck an ant hill will put a dent in it. If your going to buy a zero turn fork over the difference in cash because you’ll thank me one day. Ferris, bad boy and gravely are some good options. Also anything over 2 blades won’t cut any better the quality of the cut gets worse.
I bought a Hustler Z 60" 14 years ago for my six acres and never regretted it. A $3000 mower is too light duty for my usage level. The Kawasaki engine gets my vote. 800+ hours and it runs better than new. Zero oil consumption and instant starts. Full flow oil filter and a $4 Toyota oil filter interchanges with the Kaw. I do like the Husqvarna from all the features but I'd have to try the seat. I have a friend with a one-acre property who I will advise to have a look. I would not buy anything that might need dealer attention from a big box store. Just not going to be there for you for instant parts access.
My Kawasaki on my 2012 Toro Timecutter SUX! - The governor has always had to be adjusted ever so often and now it's leaking oil bad. Leaks gas into the oil periodically. I'm looking for a new zero now but going with a Kohler 7000 for a tad less. Guess I will see? Just scared to try another expensive Kawa-sucki
Cub cadet zt1 ultima is a great machine. I have a 2019 cub cadet zt1 ultima with a 50 inch fabricated deck and it has a 23 hp kawasaki motor. So far only needed a set of blades.
Really don’t like the cut quality and the leds already went out . Now having transmission issues and bearing issues on the deck .Also tends to hold a lot of grass on the Deck and under it .Not to mention the standard two ply tires . Nothing but problems .
@@kylestivers4606 the problem is that people never own cub cadet like the one in the video they start making up story if you never own a Cub cadet your opinion don’t count I have one for 2 years and never had a problem
Yeah, I had an older ZTR for about 15 years and traded in for a new ZT1 this year. So far, no problems and I'm happy with it. The thing is, I was looking at the Ariens, but with the supply chain issues, my dealer wasn't able to get one and he was barely able to get me the Cub Cadet. Anyway, so far, so good. No issues yet and I'm happy with the cut quality.
I got a new scratch and dent Husky Z248F for $2500... Fabricated deck, and Kawasaki motor, and a 3 year warranty. I was looking at used John Deere when I stumbled onto the Husky. The scratch and dent... was that it is a 2021 model... I'll take the $700+ savings... thank you.
Hey Doug, do you notice your husky spinning out in wet grass / or on small hills? When I was researching I saw this as the only complaint so I bought one but then I immediately noticed this issue.
@@barryj3370 Barry, I've used it mainly on dry grass. I do have a small hill that it climbs ok. Not nearly as good as my garden tractor, but it makes it up the incline ok.
@@martinphilips6091 Hey Martin. I was looking for a used zero turn on Craigslist. When I saw a dealer ad for several Husqvarna tractors, and zero turns. AE Outdoor Power is the company. Z248F- 48" deck 21.5 HP Kawasaki engine- $2499
Hi , thanks for this info ... But how about a little bigger mower like a BEST 50 INCH MOWER STATISTICS & PRICES , IF YOU WOULD PLEASE ...People with slightly bigger properties need a little more bang for their mowing hours time , we don't all have small ( under 3 acre ) yards & some areas get a little overgrown & a little out of hand & don't want to spend all day or two cutting grass ........ So how about it ??? 50 " / 52 " ......👍👍👍🤗👋
How about the Toro Time Cutter? 50” cut and actually has suspension for the seat. Anyones who’s spent longer than 2-3 hrs cutting realize quickly that even a minor type seat suspension helps your back and butt immensely .
Definitely my dad has always hated zero turns but I talked him into trying a Ferris is700 and buying one of those suspension seats we also added 2 bolt on handle post with a step on the front and he loves it easy on easy off and a comfortable ride
I wish I had a seat with suspension The husky has no suspension and will kill your back Sometimes I wish I put on my kidney belt that I wear dirt bike riding lol
Lights on mowers (especially residential ones) are a worthless and gimmicky feature. Practically no residential user (or commercial, for that matter) is out here cutting after dark.
I hate to admit it, I have one as well. But this cheap Chinese(didn’t know) crap is tuff. At least I was told it was Chinese. Sorry to any American I didn’t mean to buy this commie crap
Just bought the John Deere Z345 for 2,999$. Couldn't pass it up for price and more importantly today, AVAILABILITY! Great reviews on all top 5. I had my eye on all 5myself. Happy trails!
I can't believe how cheaply, American's can buy a Zero turn mower for. I paid $7,500 for my MZ52 Husqvarna, secondhand. Sure, it only had a hundred hrs on it, and not a scratch. But new it would have set me back $13,500. I'm sure some top of the range commercial mowers in America might be pricey, but here, in Australia, I've seen Zero Turns at $27,000.
@@GeneralChangFromDanang That's music to my ears..."cheap". We don't get a choice of brand names, like you get over there. But we do get the same crap shoved in our faces, it's just that it's twice the price.
End of last year I was looking for a used Hustler, had my heart set on it. But, they were expensive and if not, they were already sold. Found a Big Dog 54" with 18.5 hrs for $2500. Bought it, found out it's made by HUSTLER ! SCORE !!! I like it but need to get used to that skid steer twitchy steering.
I bought a Ariens Edge with a 34 in cut about 2 years ago and it had a bad vibration when engaging the blades, sent it for warranty work and they just put a new belt on it, brought it back and same bad vibration. So sent it back and after dealing with the manufacturer they decided to replace the deck, spindles and blades which didn't solve the problem, then again after about 2 weeks replaced the what they called the extension shaft. So I was without my mower for about a month. Good thing I got the extended warranty. Of course the dealer authorize shop in my opinion didn't know how to repair it and didn't know what they were doing. They would use your mower to cut there grass and not even clean it up. My mower came back with grass clippings on it and a scratch on it. I prefer a B&S engine the Kohler is $100.00 more but parts are more expensive than B&S. I still have a Dixon 2005 Speed ZTR with a B&S 30 in cut I bought for $100.00 back in 9--8-16 that is still running and in good operation.
I would never buy another Husqvarna again. I bought a Z248F last year and had just under 50 hours on it as of July this year. While mowing the lawn, I heard a weird noise and then what sounded like a metal on metal grinding. That was when I found out Husqvarna knowingly sent out mowing decks with bad welds on them. The entire right side of my mowing deck cracked in half and sent the blade guard through the blades. It is now almost September, the Husqvarna dealer has had my mower since July 5th and do not know when they will be able to complete the warranty work, because Husqvarna has prioritized new mower sales over warranty fixes and will not send a new mowing deck. A mower is only as good as the company that stands behind them and Husqvarna does not stand behind their mowers.
I bought a 46" Husqvarna riding mower used about 5 years ago (bought it from a guy who only had it a year but said it was too big for his yard) and I've put that mower through some very hard work around the small 22 acre farm, from basic yard mowing to mowing some brush along the fence in the fall and using it to pull a 16' landscape trailer to haul tree branches out of the field (probably over kill for that mower). I'm actually surprised that mower held up as long as it has, I've replaced the blades a couples times, new deck belts here and there, some tie rods, it's on it's 2nd drive belt, had to replace some pullies and a deck spindle, some welding on the deck, but through all that the hydrostat is still going strong and no complaints from the engine, the parts I've replaced were going to fail eventually I probably sped things up. I've been thinking about getting my first zero turn and if I do it's going to be a Husqvarna.
I've had a Husqvarna Zero Turn mower 7 years on a 5 acre farm. Couldn't be happier overall. Replaced belts, blades, solenoids putting it thru it's paces. Good mulcher blades means no grass pickup - chops it to rice! Use sharpened crappy blades for brush chopping, gopher/mole hill leveling/dirt packing and blackberries. Cup or brew holder too!
I picked up a z246 zero last fall for next to nothing. It is a long story but a farm supply had it and a customer brought it back after 4.5 hours. They sent it to a repair shop that was local and a authorized repair center. But it was the fall so they did not ask for it back until the new mowing year. The flywheel key had sheared off and it had to be pulled and replaced so they did that but they left it setting outside all winter. Yeah someones brand new mower. So the next spring dude went to pick it up and the repair shop was like here you go. The dude said no mine was new. They explained it was his but the plastic and labels was faded as well as the seat starting to already crack. So the owner blows up and tells the farm center i brought it back to you because it broke after so little use I want a new one. So they gave him a brand new one. This is a 2020 model and it is spring 2021. But Farm center guy said it just set in the back room for 2 years and the manager got tired of looking at it. He put a sign on it.. AS IS I think it needs a battery and belt. So it was marked at a fraction of a new mower. So I asked if I could put a battery in it and if it kinda runs and the hydros worked I would buy it, if not could I return the battery? He said sure, so it had no key either and I bought one of those and a battery and put in it and it fired right up. it moved under its own power and the blades tried to come on but you could tell something was off. So I said sold and I purchased a 3 year old mower with less than 5 hours for $200 plus tax and battery and key. I get it home and seen the blade tensioner spring is gone and I had one that fit off another mower so I put it on and they spun up but was clanking and the blade was scraping the ground. Apparently he hit something so hard it bent a blade and broke a spindle and sheared the flywheel key. So 2 days ago I put new blades and spindle on it and it mows like a brand new mower. I have just over $300 in it after tax and parts. The dude never even cut the factory shipping ire to secure the deck it was wired up. I have only used it once but OMG it cuts smooth. I never had a mower make such a nice cut. I put G3 blades on it.
I used to be concerned about “box store hydros”….(Hydro Gear 2100, 2200, EZT) as they are essentially unserviceable- but after 3 years at at ZT dealer and mower repair shop what we’ve seen is very little hydro wheel motor failures but scads of rear hydro axel failures in front engine lawn tractors by ALL OEMs. Presently our #1 cause to cannabalize machines.
I currently own a Husquvarna Rider 16 which was purchased in 2001 for $3,200.00. Its now starting to give me problems with starting. We have replaced the carb, starter solenoid, and ignition switch still will no turn over when moving the key to the start position. I will be sending it in to get an evaluation on this machine as to weather to keep it or move it on. Anyhow have owned it for 21 years and up until now going strong. The stamped deck is holding up very good and with all of the rocks we grow around here its holding up very well. This top 10 will help me decide on which to possibly purchase when its time.
I have a 2019 z248 with the Kawasaki motor The machine gets stuck on flat ground Tires are terrible Motor is not good Out for warranty work for the second time I would not recommend this machine I’m a mechanic and take great care of everything I own Last husqvarna was great Tried this zero turn and totally disappointed The most I’ve ever paid for a mower and the most problems
I bought a Hustler 52 at Lowes last year an a discount because it had been returned for 2600 bucks Love it and no issues. This Hustler thinks it’s a bush hog😂
I have the Husqvarna Z254F and that thing is a beast. I have had it for 3 years now and it is still in top shape. Just changes the oil, filters, sparkplugs and blades and it is ready to go again.
I would never buy another Husqvarna again. I bought a Z248F last year and had just under 50 hours on it as of July this year. Change that transmission oil. They say it'l s a sealed transmission but it's not. Change it every three years. it's not hard. There's instructions on youtube. I learned the hard way. I've had a RZ 2454 since 2008. 24 hp kohler has been great. The body is a little flimsy but that's not bad because it makes it lighter if you get stuck or want to work on it. Heavier duty ones are, heavier of course. If it's not too heavy you can man handle them better such as flipping the deck or getting stuck in a ditch. I replace both transaxles because I didn't change the trans nission fluid or 15-150 weight oil. Change that transmisson oil.
Notice the carriage bolts on the JD anti skid wheels. They point outwards and get hung up on everything you get close to. Dumb engineering. I have a Z345M and hate it.
I just bought a Z335e, the zero turn is better for tall people, plus I used a lowes 10% coupon in tax free New Hampshire. It was my highest price point as I’m only on 1/4 acre, but inventory is scarce due to Brandon.
Bought an Ariens Ikon and it was broken down after one season. Transaxle is not serviceable and busted it’s seal over winter. Now they have so few repair shops in my area I can’t get anyone to repair it. Pain in the but I don’t have a truck to haul mowers around so I have to rent a truck take off work because they won’t let me bring it on a weekend. NEVER buy a mower from Lowes
Don’t feel bad! Got an Ariens 60” Zoom; it is about 6 years old and has had both hydrostatic wheel units replaced! Only buy zero turns with hydro pumps and wheel mowers!
I almost bought an Ariens Apex (that does have ZT3100 serviceable transaxle) from Lowe’s but they didn’t have the width I wanted with the Kawasaki engine. I am big into reading customer reviews and Ariens/Gravely were chock full of issues of which were mostly minor in nature. The problem is when you buy from a big “box store”, you have to take it to an Ariens dealer to have it repaired. For that reason, I would have paid a little more to purchase one from a reputable dealer, but in reading more reviews, customers were having issues with what was or wasn’t approved by Ariens for dealers to repair on a new machine. There are fewer Ariens dealers now then there was a few years ago, so what does that tell you? The same businesses are still open, just not selling Ariens.
great review 😎 next is 0-turn gas or electric?? also with everything getting so expensive, which mowers would be on the high crime steal list? come home and no mower 😲thanks
All good choices, it comes down to the dealer experience. The big box stores (and some online manufacturer orders) could not deliver in less than a wk. Husqy dealer had limited inventory, tried to put me in a cheaper model. CCadet dealer had their stuff together, great experience. Should've gone ahead and bought for 2700 last yr but oh well... Added bonus, groundhogs think the ZT1 is a spaceship and are mesmerized like 'Close Encounters'.
i am currently dealing with this issue as well. i ordered a JD Z345R from a dealer without any hassle, but am not getting it for 3+ weeks. supply shortages are real i guess.
I have a Cub Cadet z Z Model 321 hours loved it it was a little bit abused I'm not sure what they did with it but I got it straightened out man does this thing cut nice 50 inch wide inches biggest a car when it goes down the yard Kawasaki engine quiet as a mouse runs like a deer no pun
I've used Gravely, Toro, Husqvarna and John Deere and both Commercial and residential. The biggest thing I hate out of all mowers is the Husqvarna seats. Both residential and Commercial are the most uncomfortable. The seats are too much of a ninety degree angle that after awhile really hurts the back.
I agree, my MZ52 has a very uncomfortable seat. Too upright and no suspension at all. Not really happy with the way it mows to be honest. It tears up the ground every time you try to turn, no matter how careful you try to be. And it will not cut long grass without leaving 2 thin rows of grass between the blades, where they don't overlap? Mowers here in Australia are ridiculously expensive, I paid $7,500 second hand, for mine. $13,500 new. So I'll be sticking with mine until the damn thing falls apart. LOL.
On this list which one would you pick from the number 1. 2. & 3 spots on this list for some one like me... less than 2 acres of very flat yard who cuts my yard about once a week here in Southern Ohio. ?? Thanks for your advice.
@@robertsalyers1351 All depends on the dealers in your area. In my area, Cub Cadets, sold at Farm & Fleet stores, and are sent off to be serviced, so long waits. The other brand that had the stamped deck, I would avoid (don't cut even in tight unlevel turns.). Ariens, there's a dealer in my area,, that that's all they sell, great family biz, bend over backwards for you, that's the one of these I would buy if I hadn't bought a Toro 54' for $4,200 2 weeks ago, and love it. Bought a Toro push mower drastically reduced at a big box store 5 yrs ago, best push mower I've ever owned. So expect that quality in the riding mower. Just be careful to get a name brand engine, no name engines are chinese knock offs of the Honda engine, so reliability is questionable.
Bought my Bad Boy MZ Magnum 54” with the 25hp Kohler last year and absolutely love it. I was mowing 1.5 acres in 3 hours with a Cub Cadet LT1045 (that I was always wrenching on, thanks MTD). With the Bad Boy, it takes me less than half that time. Bad Boy has a veterans discount, something around 20%. My local Tractor Supply honored the program price without any issues.
The REAL issues should be ease of sharpening blades....belts & spindle replacement.......and of course...pricing of these components.....good vid though.
For the love of god please no one buy any of the new cub cadets. I’ve never seen more brand new mowers go to complete shit faster than these. Kholer engines are junk the literal worst, the Chinese motors are better quality. I’ve put 5 hulls under the new cub’s swaps a few to brigs engines due to them blowing up under 200 hours with regular services most of the absolutely eat pump belts. They are just terrible mowers and your wasting your money with them. Hustler or bad boy is the way to go. And don’t buy any mowers from lowes Home Depot or tractor supply, trust me they are all junk.
I have been looking at a husky. All their products are great. I am worried about parts. During Covid it was impossible the get anything from them. Any insights ?
i like my custom built jazee one 42 inch cut with a fr651 kaw... i did build it. it is slightly over powered the original engine should have been a single cylinder 18.5 briggs. my opinion is this and i live my life like this... id rather it be over done then not enough.
My money has to go to bad boy for the hevest built Fram on the market I have 2 60 inch decks and a 48 inch deck thy are 15 years old and still running Kohler motor all summer long I mow about 15 acers a week two parks and a 30 acer cemetery.
Ok thank you very much they seem like a very safe mower you can see what your mowin and you can get off it quick if you have to thank you again Frank Corbin
Husqvarna also offer a lifetime warranty on the fabricated deck (assuming to obvious abuse to things). I have the z254f model and it`s a great mower for sure!
Does Toro have no timecutters in that range? In the Houston Texas area that's the manufacturer of choice. Toro everything! So it's what I purchased too, think it was right at 3k.
Why are bad boy decks so shallow? Wouldn’t a deeper deck be better for airflow and suction and thus provide a better quality of cut for those lawns that are manicured(not acres of pasture grass)? When you look at the best cutting mowers they all have deep decks. Exmarks, Ferris, Scags… you won’t find any of these top cutting mowers with shallow decks and for a reason..
Cub Cadet Zt1 stamped deck is pure junk. I say that being a Cub Cadet guy. I have old school XT! Enduro 8 years old and 440 hours on it. I mow 3 acres a week with it. Sometimes i mow 2 foot tall weeds. But, ZT1 stamped deck is just trash. Might work on a golf course. But, move up to the ZT2 and you have a beast.
The husqvarna 48 inch zero turn is garbage Just letting you all know The Kawasaki fr651 motor is garbage also Mine is junk with less than 80hrs on it but Kawasaki and husqvarna won’t stand their products Please don’t buy a Husqvarna
Thanks for the video. I bought a Badboy MZ Magnum 54" last year. It's been great for keeping up woth my 11 acre property. Looking for a slightly smaller one for a friend. Trying to steer him to a zeroturn as the prices for lawn tractors have also increased.
I don’t understand the zero turn craze for homeowners. For a commercial business, absolutely. I can buy a decent rider with a 54 inch fab deck for less than 3k. For another 675 bucks, I can get tire chains, a snowblower, and a few wheel weights. Multipurpose, for way less than the price of a zero turn with the same size fabricated deck. Either way, zero turn or rider, I have to run the string trimmer, so I just can’t fathom paying that much more for a zero turn. I have 9 acres to mow, and I would rather take an extra half an hour to trim and maybe mow a bit slower than pay thousands more for a zero turn. I saw Dewalt zero turns at Home Depot with 54 inch decks for $6,989. Insane.
@@dino9395 I might disagree with you. My next door neighbor has a 15 year old Toro lawn tractor that does not replacing, but she keeps thinking it's on its last legs ( It isn't, I do the maintenance on it and it's just fine) She cuts two lawns, hers and a rental property they own. I dissuaded her father from buying a zero turn years ago when he replaced an ancient Snapper because of the steepness of the back of their property on the advice of the local Toro dealer who said there could be more of a roll over issue with the zero turns. I watched her father, then almost 90, roll the Snapper and though he wasn't hurt, became a bit gun shy, shall I say, towards using it. They bought the lawn tractor. Now, talking to a few commercial grass cutters who use a variety of them who say they feel far more comfortable on a zero turn than a lawn tractor on steeper terrain. I watched one guy using a big commercial John Deere working the back property next to the neighbor and he wasn't having a bit of trouble on the steepness part, just ran a bit slower and carefully in his turns. I don't want to give bad advice to my neighbors but this is going to be a borderline situation between the amount of grass that has to be cut, a relatively small amount of steepness to be concerned with and with the way she cuts, a lot of turning and a lot of reversing. It takes her half a day to cut both properties even with her husband doing the trim mowing and edging. They are both in their 70s and I keep hoping that they'll run the old mower until it dies and start using a lawn service. Got any advice I could pass on to them?
@@mikegrant8490 It's all just personal choice when it really comes down to it..As you know lawn tractors will tip over if the hill is steep enough,But most of the zero turns have a tendency to slide down hills..For my own personal use I like just the standard riding mower, although with a large property the zero turns will definitely be much faster.
@@dino9395 I agree with you. It's not my concern overall. I did mention much of what you just said to her the day before yesterday and it seems I may have convinced her to just continue with what they already have. It's more than adequate and she even said in a few years, they'll likely just start using a lawn service. Thanks for your feedback!

Have prices gone up in the 2 weeks since this video came out? The rambler at TS is 3400 for small engine. Others seem to be higher as well if they’re in stock.
Asked myself the same question in the last few days. Not comparing prices to what’s in the video but I could have sworn Home Depot’s price on the cub cadet jumped like $100-$200 from one day to the other so I think there was a change
Pretty boring monologue . Almost put me to sleep. Interesting to see but my preference is definitely a front mount mower. I would personally pick the single cylinder engine on the MG Rambler. Much more fuel efficient. The extra 2 HP of the twin cylinder engine will not make much difference.
Some of the mowing decks on these mowers are very weak the front tire spindles are equipped with bushings. Stay away from those they should be bearings the John Deere zero turns questionable at best. I personally would stay away from the box stores when buying a mower
from a mower technician. my rankings would differ. 1 ariens ( it does come with a kawasaki as well) 2 badboy ( never worked on one but thats a good thing) 3 husqvarna 4 cub cadet 5 john deere hate john deere its small and thin and cheap. the parking brake is cheap if had them jam in the wheels. cub cadet is made cheap as well but not as bad as the johnny. a little more money and id comfortably put a hustler raptor in the mix. pretty much anything kawasaki and fab deck you cant go wrong
I’ve had a Toro, it was ok. Then I bought a Bad Boy, LOVED IT! When I moved to a house with a smaller yard I traded in the Bad Boy for a smaller Bad Boy 🙂
My Toro is done and was about to get the Bad Boy Rambler with a 22 Kohler. I drug around and waited a day too late. They sold out of the Rambler with the 22hp,(due to manufacture supply problem) then started subbing it with a 19hp Briggs for the same freakin price! No thx!
