Top 50 Best JRPG World Map Themes OF ALL TIME! (Full Music) 

I know you'll throw at me Peaceful Days (Chrono Trigger) and possibly Persona 3 and 4, but I see those themes as Town Themes, not overworld/world map themes. That's just me, though. If I ever do a Top 50 Best JRPG Town Themes, I'll probably consider them for it :)

Memories of Green always punches my nostalgia right in the stomach. Almost brings a tear to my eye

I know it's not really an 'overworld' track, but I think the FFXII Dalmasca Estersand theme deserves special mention. the orchestration on that piece is excellent, and it really seems to fit the theme of the area perfectly.

Geniunely surprised that Gaur Plains didn't make it into the Top 10 at least

I played FF7 in late 2010s and there's no nostalgia here, but this world map theme. True masterpiece in so many different aspects

Terranigma immediately came to mind, both the internal and external themes.

As someone who hasn't played that many RPGs, and loves video game music, this is awesome! Can't wait to play many of these games.

Glad #1 is Sunshine Coastline its been 3 years since i played YS8 and i still haven't gotten tired of this theme yet

Not sure if it even counts since the game doesnt really have an overworld, but its not town or dungeon music. But in Ys 6 right when you leave the starting village. As soon as I heard that song I knew I loves the game... it was my first falcom game too so I had no clue about their music or game quality.

How is Searching For Friends from FFVI not on here? Both of the FFVI map themes are absolutely stellar!

Some absolute bangers in here! Man I absolutely love jrpgs. They have the best damn music. Even ok jrpgs tend to have cool music. I would order them differently but many of these would indeed be on my list. Number 1 for me is wild arms. No theme has captured the feel of adventure like that for me. FF6 overworld theme, 7 and 9 are also high up there. Alundra too though thats more an adventure game. Fantastic choices all round here mate.

Great list! Damn, and it reminded me I really must get into the Growlanser series. If I made my own list, I'd put any of Terranigma's overworld themes at some point, but this is definitely great anyways!

Very good list, I'd add some JP exclusive themes, like Ma-da-ra from Mouryou Senki Madara, but other than that it's just about everything I like the most! There are thousands of those themes, so narrowing the number down to 50 is super difficult, well done!

Xenoblade, Nier, and Ys soundtracks make me so happy. Goodness I'm actually get nostalgic for some of these songs 😂

For me the underworld and overworld theme of Terranigma is still the best theme ever made. :) But you put also another very good tracks in your list.

For me contenders have to be the nocturne large map and real universe map as well as the song that plays on the map on the way to kagasuhi

My fave overworld theme is FFVIII's, so adventurous, mysterious and evocative. CT's Memories of Green is great, too.

I'm not sure about #43 "Rock on the Road", it's more like a mountain pass theme, unless you consider any open areas in the game as overworld. The overworld theme in Trails in the Sky is "The Way they Walk in Liberl", it even sounds more like one. Btw, I always enjoy your content. Peace!

OOOH OOOH. I just remembered a song I really liked that I think probably belongs on MY top 50 at least. But I went to the Falcom Music channel and it was NOT there (for CS1), at least I can't findit. Hence why it may be overlooked. But when you're in Ruan, and you are going thru the m ountain range to get to the mining station. I seem to recall liking that bgm a bunch, but I could NOT find it on the Falcom music channel CS1 playlist!.. in fact I can't find it anywhere on youtube but I remember thinking it was pretty spiffy in-game.

So after all that Ys touting, where's Desert of Despair?

There are so many great or just outright beautiful over world themes. I often make the argument to others that the most beautiful or amazing music you’ll ever hear, will be from a video game. I believe personally that our game score composers should be held in much higher regard and recognition. Nobuo Uematsu should be held up to the level that the world places long gone composers such as Beethoven and such to. Just in my opinion. For me, the spot in my heart for favorite over world theme of all time seems as though will always belong to the over world theme of Final Fantasy IV. Ever since I first heard it in 1992, it’s always been my absolute most memorable and loved piece of gaming music. I have a lot of childhood history and emotions tied to that game so, that could be partly responsible for it. Cecil Harvey was basically my childhood hero and Final Fantasy IV(titled as II at the time)was the game that got me into RPGs and showed me that playing a game could be so much more than getting pissed because I keep missing a jump or running out of lives, mindlessly shooting at flying robotic insects on screen. Lol

I feel the sudden urge to ignore my 50+ games backlog and replay YS VIII for the 3rd time. Or maybe play YS IX for my second play through on PC without all the lag on switch... But what i'll end up doing is playing YS VII for probably the 7th or 8th time. (and in reality after i finish replaying these games ill continue to purchase more jrpgs to add to my backlog while simultaneously procrastinating the next game to play because i've accumulated so many of them i can never decide where to start. Then when i finally come to a conclusion of what game to start i'll play it for a couple of hours before putting it down to replay FFVII or Kingdom Hearts 1+2 for the 20th time)

I know it's probably more of an Action Adventure game, but it's been talked about on this channel before, so I'm a little disappointed to not see "The Wind that Shook the Earth" from "Alundra" (PS1) featured on this list... Definitely agreed with "Sunshine Coastline" for #1, though. It's just the kind of track that really gets you excited to explore the island and completely massacre the local wildlife and destroy the ecosystem as a result.

I didn't know what could top some of these great songs as your #1, but hearing that one again I agree with it.
