I saw both videos above and still can't decide . that is why I asked for your advice. I started my education with coursera, npw I am doing Microsoft Cybersecurity Analyst Professional Certificate and don't know how to find a good mentor if I decide self learning way, other way they gave me a good discount and good payment plan, the final is what better result I can get after spending all this time in both ways ((( really feel confusid

Hi Josh I trust you are doing well , I have been following you on RU-vid and watched some of your videos. I had a bachelor in info tech and masters in computer science, I once worked for 8 month as technical support specialist during my internship. I’m a graduate now that is trying to break into the cyber security industry, I passed my comptia security plus last year. I have, I don’t have any cybersecurity experience or skills . I have applied several times in the role of security analyst “entry level “ and I have never been called for interviews, I’ve beginning to get pissed , I had my masters in the USA and I’m based there . Reference Questions 2: I finally got the name of the Anti-Malware Testing File : EICAR: An EICAR file (European Institute for Computer Antivirus Research) is a standard test file used to test the functionality of antivirus software. It is not an actual virus, but a simple text file that contains a specific string of characters that antivirus programs recognize as a test virus. The purpose of this file is to trigger a response from antivirus software to ensure that it is working correctly. ( its create a False Positives) The content of the EICAR test file is a short ASCII string: ``` X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H* ``` When this file is saved with a `.com`, `.exe`, or other executable extension, antivirus programs should detect it as a threat, even though it is harmless. This allows users and developers to test antivirus software without using actual malicious code. The EICAR test file is widely recognized in the cybersecurity industry as a safe way to verify that antivirus protection is functioning as expected.

don't feel bad! The purpose of the video is to just expand peoples' consciousness on how different questions can be thought about and answered. If you spend enough time studying stuff, doing stuff, and listening to possible answers to questions, things will come together and you'll be able to speak more naturally about certain topics! Listening to security podcasts really helps a lot too.

Hey josh currently going through the google cyber security Certificate so I can take the Sec + exam. I’m a complete newbie and just want to get into tech.. and I have no college degree but I want to get into cyber security. Should I get your IT course or go straight to your Cyber security course?? Hopefully you see this! Thanks! I’m Still looking for an entry level role..
@JoshMadakor
@JoshMadakor 7 месяцев назад
The idea is that Cyber is not really entry-level, so I recommend having some baseline cyber knowledge--it doesn't have to be W2/job experience, but some kind of experience will be best. (For example, having gone through Google's cybersecurity program would be good: joshmadakor.tech/google ). There are no hard requirements for joining the course though. I have implemented a few things to help with the lack of experience, such as the internship component I mentioned in this video ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YkOZwrHd-aA.htmlsi=fklhbIpPRckrpbUe ) as well as the Sec+ Anki Deck. If you are brand-brand new, the IT course is a good bet and will get you acclimated to computing and Azure/Cloud: joshmadakor.tech/it If you feel comfy and you are fine with the Cyber learning curve, I would check out the explanation video on the landing page if you haven’t already: joshmadakor.tech/cyber And as for if you can get a job with just the cyber course, you definitely can, but if you are brand new to IT, I recommend applying to BOTH IT jobs AND Cyber jobs and not necessarily holding out for only Cyber Jobs. But yes you can get a job if you follow the course and implement everything and are flexible with your first job. Hope this helps!

At first I was thinking about going the route of bachelors in Cybersecurity although now I’m thinking about going the route of Bachelors in IT due to it being a bit more affordable as well as quicker given there are less certs. Do you think I’d be holding myself back from cyber jobs if I got my bachelors in IT vs Cyber?
@JoshMadakor
@JoshMadakor 7 месяцев назад
Hey! Thanks for the comment! In the end, it doesn’t really matter that much, especially for IT. Just because you get a degree in cloud, doesn’t mean you are pigeon holed into doing cloud work-at all. Many people in IT have extremely unrelated degrees or even NO degree at all. It really doesn’t matter as much as people think. Employers absolutely don’t care, generally speaking, and you can always “fill in the gaps” later with self study or certifications. If you don’t know what to do or have analysis paralysis, I recommend just getting the easiest one from WGU in the area that you want to work. This might be the IT general degree or IT management degree, if you are going to WGU. Hope this helps! For a deeper explanation, check out this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qwhomLdxVTU.html Easiest degrees video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HEQbB_e8UMA.html p.s. If you feel like using my cyber/cloud soc course to help "Fill in the gaps" after doing the IT degree. you can email me at the address in my channel and screenshot this for 15% off^^ There is an internship component as well that you can see on the landing page. None of this is necessary, but everything can help

Josh, I’m interested in hearing your take on going into tech in 2024 with the rise of AI and uncertainty of the future. I know you have your courses to sell so it may not be a sexy topic but I’m (and many others) who don’t know where their should invest their most valuable resource - time - could use some insight from someone in the profession. My dad is a programmer and advised me not to enter tech, but he also said this in the past when it would’ve been great for me to learn and I would’ve profited greatly so I’m interested in hearing other perspectives.
@JoshMadakor
@JoshMadakor 6 месяцев назад
Yeah, this is a great question. I actually made a video answering this but it's still in the production pipeline so I can't even link it yet. Here is the summary though (see below). There are tons of jobs in Tech and things are always changing. There are a lot of base fundamentals though, such as what is taught in the Google IT/Cyber certs. For more of a laser focused answer, me and the Bearded IT Dad were talking about how to know what stuff to specifically study for. Check that out from like 3:29: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uTqkO6AdPJQ.html Hope this helps a bit! [SUMMARY START] My Opinion on the Job Market Economic Uncertainty and AI Impact: We're experiencing economic uncertainty, a common historical trend. The rise of ChatGPT and advancements in AI are reshaping job functions. Technological advancements traditionally lead to job evolution-some jobs disappear, while new ones emerge. This cycle of change is normal and not necessarily alarming. Adaptation is Key: It's important to stay informed about these changes. However, the actions of big tech companies do not always mirror the broader job market's trends. Entry-Level IT Jobs: For individuals entering IT, the layoff of high-earning tech employees (e.g., Google's 10k layoffs) may seem daunting. Yet, those affected are unlikely to compete for entry-level positions, such as help desk jobs at lesser-known companies. This indicates a different impact on job availability for newcomers versus experienced professionals. Cybersecurity Job Demand and Trends Resource for Cybersecurity Employment Data: CyberSeek (www.cyberseek.org/heatmap.html) is an excellent resource for cybersecurity employment trends, pooling data from NICE, NIST, ISACA, and other organizations. Current Job Market: The supply/demand ratio for cybersecurity jobs in the United States is at 72%, indicating that only 72% of the demand for cybersecurity positions is being met. This underscores a significant opportunity in the cybersecurity field. Opportunities Exist: The data suggests a robust demand for cybersecurity professionals. Aspiring candidates must focus on enhancing their skills and qualifications to capitalize on these opportunities.

Would go on to say that very entry cyberwork would be automated out over time so no more looking at blinky boxes for alerts and closing them out. Jobs that involve building out projects and integrating AI into our automation projects will be the future. With the rise of AI, so will complex AI attacks so it'll even out. These machines will still need a human touch to them so cyber will still be a booming field. Definitely recommend diving into the field if you can demonstrate some sort of passion into it and not for the money. The field will only get more cutthroat and technical unfortunately

Do I really need a BS IT if I already have a bachelors degree in something else - like will that actually give me a good enough advantage when it comes to applying for jobs to make the degree worth it? Or should I just get the certifications and skip the WGU degree since I already have a bachelors. Thanks so much for your help. I love all your videos and appreciate the insight.

Had a friend with a BA in English I worked with in Korea teaching english do a scrum master cert in 3 weeks and got a job after applying everyday for 5 months with JP Morgan. So having a BA in other stuff and having a cert is possible. I had the Sec+ since last year on the other hand and havent gotten anything so far whether its security analyst, help desk or grc.

I have a question about your boot camp. What guarantee can you provide for getting a job if i have NO experience at all in cyber security? I mean your course offer labs and information that i can find on my own.
@JoshMadakor
@JoshMadakor 7 месяцев назад
Anyone providing guarantees of a job is 100% scamming you or lying unless they are the one employing you. I can only guarantee that you will be *more* employable after having gone through the course, especially taking advantage of the internship component. You are right, after all, all information is free these days, but my course is packaged in a way that gives value in the form of your time/energy being saved, plus a few other things here and there. it's up to you whether or not it's worth the price after doing your research! Check out this video if you haven't already: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YkOZwrHd-aA.htmlsi=5ledvjckDDvZrEyF

Basically I was questioning whether it would be alright to take a job another IT job while waiting for security clearance for a job that pays me double what I’m now currently making. I ended up taking the job but I struggled a lot with it was ethical or not. I just hate the idea leaving a job after a few months, especially when it feels like they took a chance on me :/ . Anyhow that’s my ramble. Thoughts?
@bbijoon
@bbijoon 6 месяцев назад
A cyber or IT job with a clearance is gold and if you maintain it you will be set for basically ever. Do what is best for you, employers always do what is best for them. As for the people who took a chance on you, when you leave, thank them for the opportunity they’ll understand.
@limecandy7099
@limecandy7099 6 месяцев назад
@@bbijoon thank you for the reassurance, truly 💜. I’m gonna leave guilt behind and keep reminding myself that I got to do what’s best for me when the time comes. The clearance is still pending but I’m hoping and praying it all works out since getting it would be a life changing opportunity.
