I used to work for the company in Ottawa Canada that prepared the files and color separations for the first hundred or so copies of spawn plus all the packaging, I have a 1 of 20 action figure Todd made just for us.
I just went through my small collection yesterday and I have a mint 227 sketch variant. Not a Spawn fan. Dont own any other Spawn stuff Only bought it because I thought it would look good with my ASM 300. Completely forgot I had it but 6:00 sure did make my balls tingle.
Thank you so much for this video, I've been waiting to see this list of Spawn books for a long time now...trying to collect a complete Spawn run is a lifetime grail run with books this rare, almost impossible to ever do it.
Dave..I watch pretty much all of your videos and this has been my favourite so far. The edit and the pacing is spot on and I really enjoyed all the fun facts. Would love to see you make videos like this for other characters. Thanks for all your great content.
Thanks. Ya this was a lot of work. Been working on this video for months. I’m glad people appreciate it. I’ll try to do more. But it was a lot of work to do. But I’ll probably be faster now that I know what I need to do next time
Great video! I mainly only collect spawn comics and this is so helpful! I didn't even know some of these existed.I'll be using this as a guide pretty much forever. Thanks for the video!
What a great video! I absolutely love Spawn! I had so many of these books but in 2001 I had a house fire and lost it all! In the past few years I have slowly started to get a collection back together, but for many years I had no drive to collect again sadly. I had tens of thousands of books and cards, just so many rares amd I had all mint books too. I took care of everything very well. Thanks for sharing!!
Great stuff and very informative my guy! I’ll keep an eye out for some of them! I have some GameStop variants for King Spawn 1 and Gunslinger Spawn 1. I would imagine they have a much lower print run than the regular runs. 🙂
This is the best RU-vid video I’ve ever seen I am so happy to actually see someone other than myself that love spawn as much as I do Thank you for making this video
Very well done Dave. Plenty of info and I enjoyed it all. Thanks for posting. I never kept up with Spawn though I did buy the first few issues when it came out. All I have left are #1 and #4 signed by Todd at FAO Schwarts toy store in NYC back in 1994. Best.
This is an amazing list thank you so much for putting this list out I have every single one of these books except for the error cover and I have 30 of the employee covers including some that you didn't put on here. So if you ever want to do a part too let me know lol thanks man
I'm a die hard Spawn fan. There are some issues in here that I never knew existed. Wow. Thank you for this video. Got some new books to add to my wishlist 😂
@@ComicBookInvestments Do you think you can do something similar like this for other well known comic book legends like Liefeld, Frank Miller, Jim Lee, Jack Kirby, etc. You are very knowledgeable and I TRULY ENJOYED WATCHING THIS!!! I shared this video with 25 people I know who are McFarlane fans.
That King Spawn book is too expensive for me to buy 😅 but I enjoyed the history lesson and fun facts since I like Spawn. I just hope the Todd father comes out with a remake movie for Spawn.
Amazing video. I'm a big Spawn collector but I don't consider the Dave Sim ones to be "Spawn" variants, we all know the story behind them but they're not published by McFarlane. As for the 306 MK variant, fun fact: last month on the Spawn subreddit there was a guy who worked at Netherrealms who posted a photo of a big stack of these on a coffee table - the NR studio management just put them up for employees to grab for free. So clearly they didn't destroy lots of these. So this employee grabbed more than two dozens of them and was trying to sell them via PM for $2000 each. I expect a rash of new census entries very soon.
Yep, and someone was selling around 70 non-graded ones. I'm glad I never jumped at this, in fact this whole debacle is the reason I'm getting out of the graded and variant comics scams. It's all a grift.@@bakermichael777
I tend to fall the other way in regard to Spawn 10. It’s a Dave Sim variant and the fact it’s not published by McFarlane makes it even more of a rarity. This was only possible due to the two writers’ original agreement on the crossover allowing for Sim to reprint Spawn 10.
@@MarkJackson-ux2uf I know, but I'm a stickler for "McFarlane official". Or used to be, back in September I decided to leave the Spawn variants collecting and have been selling all the stuff I have,
Regie collects did a show on the Mocca variant. 500 print run with 100 damaged. This was verified by mocca director. Leaving only 400 viable copies. so in my opinion that makes the book scarce.
@@barrygingell5600 I grabbed 2 copies myself, but you figure thecwell is dry now at ebay. Everyone is probably submitting to be graded to sell at astronomical prices. Personally I am waiting for another mcfarlane signing and get it pressed at the same time. So for now they stay raw
@@marky1221 I would love to get one signed and graded but the ones I got certainly aren't 9.8's. Also, getting stuff to the U.S from the U.K does make these signings more difficult I imagine. Truthfully I have never tried it, but I would like to.
@@barrygingell5600 I've only done one signing with CGC and it was for mcfarlane. It went well and the press pushed my book to a 9.8. So I definitely will do it again. My one spawn 3d copy has a spine tick from hell. My other copy looks to be a 9.4 or higher, but I can't grade so I leave that to the graders.... I'd say that if the opportunity presents itself, you should try for it. Even if your copies aren't mint, it's not like there are that many copies roaming around out there.
Bro this was an AWESOME!!! VIDEO but if I could BUY ONLY 1 SPAWN BOOK on this list it would have to be Spawn 303 your #11 on the list that book is DOPE AF!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥
To let everyone know that the indiegogo spawn 10 still has some comics for sale after it ended!! Just bought the classic set of 4. One of the comics only have 2 left for 495 each. I've only found one on Ebay for sale! He offered me it for 390. Wish i had money right now!!
Pretty sure my nearest hole in the wall comic shop has the Spawn #1 Black Ink Error Variant. I stopped by the other day to pick up Spawn 330 black blank, and saw it Spawn 1 graded (either 9.2 or 9.4) on the wall behind the counter for $4,500. Talked to the guy and he let me hold it. I had no clue about the error variant, so I’m I thought he was just a super fan with an WAY overpriced issue 1. He said something about black ink and I was like “eh” sure dude…but now I know! Now I’m considering making him an offer for it.
In my research I found it to have 1,000 copies released. So it would be too high. Yes the king spawn has more. But the initial video was to start at king spawn
@Comic Book Investments a few years back I started going after the newsstands and that's where I have stayed selling a large portion of my direct copies to fund the hunt for newsstands. There is an error comic that didn't make your list but finding the actual numbers would be very tricky. It's a Spawn 9 newsstand with the poster inside. Newsstand copies didn't get the poster inside, other then number 1. For some reason there were a few issue 9s that had the direct poster inserted into the newsstand. I don't have a copy but I do know there have been a couple sent into CGC.
I’m sick tired hearing about cgc someone have spawn issue 1 cgc and cbcs , Pgx cgc will sell more it’s not right should be equal same price people are paying for name on label., not big fan of sketch covers I own one sketch cover that’s it for me cgc doesn’t make comic prices of value it’s sellers who do that I have bought book in cbcs first appearance of carnage got that book i saw is going for same price in cgc and cbcs depends on seller, ultimate fallout signed I bought 300 another seller is selling same book for higher price in cbcs and Pgx cases
