In short, the PB-2000 Pro sounds a lot bigger than it is. Explosiveness is a difficult sensation to properly convey, which is why I spend so much time on it. For some people, explosiveness is not a priority, they just want full range bass. Dual original PB-2000 will handle that no problem.
My Bass Hack video methods, with a good pair of matched, deep bass subs, are seriously game changing, more than the subs can do on their own without my hacks.
I don't say that lightly.
The Distance Hack, Crossover Hack, Large vs Small Hack, Gain Hack, and the Adjusting Subs By Ear Hack, in that order, will dramatically improve your bass experience, with no real negative consequence.

I bought two SVS PB-2000 PRO because of you. I already loved the deep and deep sounds, but I only had one martin logan dynamo 700. When I installed the two SVS PB-2000 PRO in my dedicated little theater built with ideal acoustic engineering, it literally blew my brain. My God, all my friends when they enter the cinema and I show that initial scene of the edge of tomorrow, they are speechless, after the shock they start laughing.

Hi, I have an SPF subwoofer but I’ve added an aurasound base shaker to the sofa. Right now I am just running ithe shaker with speaker wire off one of the front speakers . But I am noticing Higher frequency sounds like male voices Are partially activating the shaker . I am using an old Jen and 3803 receiver just to power the bass shaker which is really overkill. Is there a way for me to just send lower frequencies To the transducer without spending another hundred bucks because there are decent amps for bad kickers for 100 or less. I am using my Receiver is a cost saver and it provides added benefits like remote control and a nice big knob. So I’d prefer to just use the receiver. I am sending my optical signal from the TV to the old Denonand then optically feeding it back into the new Denom and that’s working just fine My Denon multimedia receiver with HDMI connectors

finally someone who explains the "explosiveness" concept in terms I understand!!!! I don't want a subwoofer that can play loud but rather one (or two!) that gives me well defined impact during movies...I have a Denon AVR-X4400 with Audyssey and I can't play my movies too loud really- I had a SVS PC12-NSD (entry level I know) that died after 7 years-no complaints at all and I'm thinking of getting a PC-2000Pro but supply (here in Canada) is a problem (as of end of Feb 2021)...so I'm thinking if getting 2x PB1000 or 2x SB1000 would be just a good... but I want the explosiveness even at lower volumes that you describe..I will never play my movies at reference level! gosh...I engage the dynamic volume on audyssey to light or medium-I have tenants in the basement...but I would love to feel some real 20HZ or something bass! Nothing too dangerous...would a couple of SB1000 do the trick? or one SB2000 or PB2000 (I hope I can get the PC2000 but I have been waiting for weeks!)...do the front firing subs better for explosiveness? the PC2000 is down firing. I have hard wood floors. But I see that the PC2000pro has special rubber feet. For now, I have an older Velodyne 12" sub for now which is barely enough...thanks so much!

Hi man love the channel l currently have a single sb3000 which sounds great l want to go dual and l am thinking dual pb2000 pro do you think l will still get that deep sound that the 13” driver produces?
@Subwoofer101
@Subwoofer101 Год назад
Because of the PEQ adjustability, the sound profile is flexible. That said, see my video on going deep vs sounding deep. I would choose dual PB-2000 Pro's over dual SB-3000 subs, and definitely over ANY single sub. I believe you would get the impression of deeper sound with dual PB-2000 Pro's, and even with that, you can bump the 29 hertz PEQ for an even deeper, more explosive sound. The impact for movies will be better, but I will say that if you want more explosiveness, dual PB-3000's will be better. But honestly, I do demos for people who aren't into home theater, and the response is always a pleasant shock with dual PB-2000 Pro's. They are epic. They never disappoint me.

Im about to pull the trigger on the 2000 pros tomorrow . I currently have a Klipsch R-120SW and adding the 2000 pro with it. I know this may not be ideal but will the addition of another sub make a difference even though they are different brands?
@Subwoofer101
@Subwoofer101 3 года назад
Generally I've found that the quality of the bass leans toward the weaker sub. If you're getting dual pros, I wouldn't add R-120sw myself. I've had more experience than I'd like with mixed subwoofers. By all means, experiment, try it out. I would run the pros for a while, and get used to them, then try adding in the other sub. Maybe you might like it, and that's what's most important.

Liked and subscribed - I have an OG PB2000. Recently thinking about adding a 2nd and realized the Pro is the upgrade. Would love some input here. Any issue mixing the original and pro? Sell it go and go with 2 pros? How much of a difference would that make vs a mix of 1 original and 1 pro? Or, just get 1 x 16 ultra pro ?

For the best possible experience, the dual PB-2000 Pro's, or dual PB-3000's would be the way to go. When mixing subwoofers, my experience has been that the overall bass experience skews towards the weaker subwoofer. Dual PB-16 Ultras are absolutely incredible, but the PB-3000's are in the same ballpark, and easier to manage. Lighter, smaller, etc... But cost no concern, my preference would be for the PB-16 Ultras. Best I've heard yet.

Hello Subwoofer 101. I've been enjoying your videos and just subscribed. Quick question for you that I've haven't seen mentioned in your videos though I could have missed it. When not in use, do you leave your subs on all the time or in standby mode or off? I'm currently running dual SB-2000 Pros and an older comparable Sony sub that I still use and love. The three work well together. I leave all in standby mode but noticed it takes a pretty good signal for the SVS's to turn on while the Sony comes on quickly with the least amount of signal. If you use standby mode have you noticed the SVS's don't always want to turn on with lower volume? I have my receiver set up at -50db when first turned on and that's enough to turn on my Sony sub but not the 2000 Pros. I have to turn the volume up to -25db or so for them to come on then I can reduce volume back down if wanted. Just curious how you have yours setup and what your observations have been with the SVS's or other subs when using standby mode. Unlike my Sony, the 2000 Pros don't have a little indicator light on the front so sometimes it's hard to tell if they're even on or not. That's probably my only complaint about them. Thanks.

It's the signel being sent to the subs at -50 my subs ant gonna come on either there has to be bass playing in what ever your cross over setting is for them to kick on and if your signel strength ant enough there not gonna come on cause there's no reason to im sure you can't barely hear them speaking at -50 when your reference is 0 witch is beyond loud enough I'd set your volume dail to come on at - 25 maybe - 30 and it will probably fix your issue or it has something todo with were you got your cross overs set at one or other

100% understand the giggle factor. I got roped into getting a klipsch bundle that came with some r12swi subs. I'm selling them, they cant handle deep bass at all...it will just "go blank". I cannot dial them in and they aren't tight enough at lower listening. I have them turned to about 20%, and they'll be too loud with one show and too low for another. Also, setting your avr to 200hz? Forget about it! The deal i got was worth it even without the subs, so I'm still happy, but I'm looking for subs. I will have to go one at a time, no matter which way I go. One now,, one in 4-6 months. I'm looking at the pb 1000, then I see the 2000 on sale for $100 more, so that makes sense. Considering the pro, but I plan to have 2, and they're not on sale, and I'm totally that dude who will be living on the street with my awesome system, so price does matter a bit. Thanks for everything.

@Subwoofer101 6 месяцев назад
The weaker sub seems to prevail in the overall impact with mixed subwoofers. Why? I can't say for sure. I mixed the PB-16 Ultra with a sub that was close in most areas, driver, box size, etc, but lower wattage. I was somewhat unimpressed with the mixed combo until I had the second, matching PB-16 Ultra, and the difference was night and day. I went from wondering what the big deal was, to the PB-16 Ultras being the best bass I've heard so far. So I try to avoid mixing subwoofers, it takes away from the better sub. If it were me, I would get dual PB-2000 Pro's, and take the original PB-2000 out of the equation. I don't know if you can trade up with the original PB-2000, but it's worth asking to save you some cash. If you can't, and want to support the channel, you can follow my affiliate link right before purchase, it could help keep the lights on. I don't earn anything from trade ups, but if you can trade up the original PB-2000, it's really the best way for you to go. I only ask viewers to follow my affiliate links if it truly makes sense for them. If getting the second PB-2000 Pro is out of reach for the moment, mixing it with the original will be better than a single, no question. Just keep in mind that it will be more like dual PB-2000 originals, and not as much benefit from the Pro version's added kick. That will be more evident when you have 2 Pro's. Hope that helps!

I was going to buy the PB 3000. Did a comparison on Crutchfield website and the only differences are 1 inch larger woofer, 250 watts more (550w max PB 2000 and 800w max PB 3000) and 16/290 to 16/200 frequency response. My Onkyo woofer is 150 watts max so the PB 2000 is a big upgrade for me. Not sure if its sub a big upgrade from 2000 to 3000. Good luck whatever you do.

@terrygorham8388

I doubt you would even have the pro maxed out like that but being you can do all these adjustments that seem to just complicate things even more you should be fine set the original up first to the max you listen to it at than you should be able to get the pro to hit just as hard with just your ears if you have a spl meter than you could get it mire excate download one on your phone or place one in frount and one in the rear and don't tey to match them just let them both bang as loud as they can like your running 2 single ones but your really not but you won't blow either of them if you set them up to your listening level the don't both need to be upfront were you see most people put them that's just as much for looks than sound your moving the sane amount of air no matter were you place them but they do sound better placed in certain spots witch depending on your room could be anywhere hope something I said helps you out you fir sure get more bass and sound like if you put one behind your recliner so it shakes you is Allways fun todo try it out see if you like it I think you'll love the extra bass no matter how you set it up it will sound better and fuller

Hello Mr. Subwoofer 101. I subscribed a while back and have really benefitted from your videos. A few months ago, I bought dual pb-2000s from the svs website at a discount because they were being discontinued. Compared to my old system, these subs are amazing. My question is about whether to upgrade or not. I have seen a comment on this site that said there's not that much difference between the pb-2000 pro and the sb-3000. I have also seen comments that said there's not much difference between the pb-3000 and pb-4000. As you have said, the pb-1000 and the pb-2000 are great subs but premium bass begins with the pb-2000 pro. I know all situations are unique (room size, flooring, ear sensitivity etc...) but my question is would I be wasting money buying a pb-4000 if I could basically get the same performance from a pb-2000 pro? Or should I just say to heck with it and upgrade to the pb-16 ultras? My room is 21' x 16.5' with a vaulted ceiling and half of the back wall opening up to a dining area.

Mixing has never worked out for me. Ideally, you want identical subs. You can try it for yourself, but like a bike, running two different tires will result in being slowed down by the lower quality tire. But definitely try it out, but I wouldn't put money into the repair to find out.

Hello I have a sr8012 marantz. Will going external amplifier be better regardless. Less stress on AVR etc or waste of money . If so what’s a good amp for HT
@Subwoofer101
@Subwoofer101 3 года назад
It really depends on the subs, the mains, and how loud you listen. Emotiva has some great options. There's really no such thing as too much power, more like too much volume being pushed through certain speakers. So a 500 watt per channel amp can run a 100 watt per channel speaker, but if you crank up the volume too much, it goes up in smoke. If you don't listen at reference levels, and you keep ALL speakers crossed at 80 hertz or higher, you might not see a dramatic difference. I personally keep everything crossed between 90hz and 120hz, and put the strain on the subwoofer amplifiers. Less of a need for external amp, but headroom is always nice. As you go down in frequency, the power needs go up. You don't want to hear true 200 watts of 2,000 hertz. Talk about pain! But at 30hz, that same power sounds amazing. I'm not talking about rating of the amp, I'm talking about actual power being put into the speaker. The higher the crossover, when speakers are set to Small, the less power is put in to the speakers from the AVR, and the more headroom your AVR has. Runs cooler. Assuming your subs are capable and handling it well, you lose nothing doing so. Generally, it's beneficial when you have the types of subwoofers I recommend.
@Tec2Nut
@Tec2Nut 3 года назад
@@Subwoofer101 don't go with power amps on the 8012 it clips due to 1.5 v pre out you need 2v for it to be stable , you would be be upgrading to the 8015, it has had some serious upgrades and pre amp is now 2v for a start , it also runs at over 100 Watts 7 ch driven .

I do 90 hertz for anything big, and 120 for smaller surround speakers. You might need to adjust the subwoofer gain up or down, or it might be fine. See my adjusting subs by ear hack video to make sure you're getting as much bass as possible. There's a razor's edge, where any more would be too much. When the bass is higher, you don't need to run as much volume, it's a cool thing. You just don't want it to sound overdone either.

I haven't heard a pb-2000 pro or pb-3000 in person but for me I can't believe that the pb-2000 pro duals would be worth $600 more especially considering there is only 100watt output difference but as I haven't heard them I could be wrong. Conversely the pb-3000 I could see easily blowing the pb-2000 away as it has 600w increase for duals which is 60% more power.

However, for the person that has no chance to listen the subs, nor the money back returns at my region, what would you suggest - dual SB 3000 (better drivers) vs dual PB 2000 pro (more power) vs dual SB 2000 (more affordable) for a small room 50/50 music/movies.

Tough question to answer, honestly. I have dual SB3000’s, I upgraded from sb2000 pro’s. Depending on the size of your room, the 2000’s may be enough. A buddy of mine has one PB2000 and I can hear things that I don’t hear with my subs because they are sealed, mainly in home theater. His sounds a little better in some music but mine sound better for most music. Definitely louder than his being that I have duals and a higher end model. If it were me, I would probably go with the PB 2000 pro’s but it would be a tough call.

Personally, I'd go with the dual PB-2000 Pro's for the guaranteed performance and versatility. They will deliver excellent performance for movies and music, and you can try them as sealed. I'm betting you will take the foam plugs out and keep them as ported. But if you do prefer them as sealed, then you have sealed subs. Win win. You can't add ports to an SB-3000 or SB-2000, but you can run the PB-2000 Pro as sealed. The ported will have more headroom, plenty of output.

Yes, the 3000 has the most dramatic change in the SVS line, aside from the PB-16 Ultra driver. The 3000 has a split wind voice coil, which really makes them explosive. Almost impossible to tell the difference between the 800 watt PB-3000 and 1,200 watt PB-4000. It's THAT good. To be clear, the PB-3000 has had the same driver since it's introduction, but it replaced the PB-12 Plus. The difference between the PB-12 Plus driver and the PB-3000 is dramatic. Only the PB-16 Ultra has a dramatic improvement in explosiveness. Too close to clearly notice between the PB-3000 and PB-4000.

You wouldn't consider the HSU VTF-15H MK2 a better buy at about the same price point as the PB-2000 Pro?
@Subwoofer101
@Subwoofer101 3 года назад
Even at the sale price, the HSU is $2,097 with shipping. $1,699 for dual PB-2000 Pro's not on sale, that's the regular SVS price. Nearly a $400 price difference. $2,237 for the VTF-15's if you want to extend the warranty to match the 5 year SVS amp warranty. Again, that's current sale pricing for HSU vs standard pricing for SVS. Otherwise it's only 2 years on the amp for HSU, which is usually the part that fails most often on any subwoofer, regardless of brand. If you decide you don't like your dual VTF-15's, you pay return shipping, at $346 each way. So that's $692 in shipping costs, and you have no subwoofers if you decide to return them. Additionally, there is mention of a 15% restock fee if certain conditions aren't met with HSU. If you don't like your dual PB-2000 Pro's, and you return them within 45 days without damage, you get a FULL refund. They pay shipping both ways. As I touched on briefly in the video, Max SPL is virtually pointless to me. I'd get nowhere near the max output with either sub. Not even close. To me, it comes down to the effective response curve, in room, and the closely related perceived explosiveness. It's an objective fact that utilizing the SVS App, I can match the relative in room response curve of the VTF-15. You would need a MiniDSP 2x4 to match the VTF-15 relative response to the PB-2000 Pro's native response curve. I can make the already explosive PB-2000 Pro even more explosive by utilizing the Eq values seen in this video. The VTF-15 has no such option. Controlling the gain from your phone is VERY convenient. The VTF-15 is the top of the line for the HSU ported series. There are three more premium models with SVS, and you can trade up every year to get to the PB-16 Ultras if you wanted to, spreading out your costs. Even if they had a higher end model, HSU doesn't offer trade up. HSU does have 3 port configurations, while the PB-2000 Pro's only have 2. They have a 7 year warranty on the driver, vs only 5 years for SVS. You can get a Rosenut finish on the VTF-15. Only one finish option with the PB-2000 Pro. HSU goes on sale, and SVS never does because of their automatic price guarantee. If SVS does drop the price, and you are within the window for the price guarantee, they just send you a refund for the difference without asking. HSU makes great subwoofers, they wouldn't be on my list otherwise. They just happen to have the least attractive shipping and return policy of any subwoofer I recommend. Those are all objective facts. I'll let you decide which one is the better buy. Both have advantages and disadvantages. HSU offers local pickup, SVS does not, as far as I know. That's an opportunity to avoid shipping if you are near Anaheim, California. Both companies are similar in their bass goals, with slightly different goals, looking at their response curves. Without question, neither subwoofer will sound anemic. Both are lightyears ahead of most typical subwoofers. It's basically Ford vs Chevy, or Toyota vs Nissan. Everyone has their favorites, and their reasoning for why one is better than another. Some people even see the SVS shipping and return policy as a negative, if you can believe that. OK. I will say that SVS probably needs to be turned up a little more after room correction, and that can make people feel like the HSU outperforms the SVS, but if you make sure they are putting out the same relative output between 60-80 hertz, the sense of being "outperformed" will change. See my top 6 problems with deep bass subwoofers video, it's explained with graphs on number 1. So go with the one that resonates with you the most. Both are excellent subs.

@@Subwoofer101 You're making the decision tougher with an excellent, detailed, logical, objective response. Thanks for that. I'm seeing the SVS PB-2000 Plus for $900 USD on Amazon. So $1800 for a pair. The HSU is currently $1700 for a pair plus a little over $300 delivered to a US address. I consider that pretty close pricing. It's been suggested to me that the HSU would be better compared to a SVS PB-4000 or even higher model, due to more similar sized drivers. It's really difficult deciding not being able to hear these in person beforehand. I do agree with you that the largest hindrance to HSU is it's shipping policies and pricing. Absolutely. Especially as an international buyer.
@Subwoofer101
@Subwoofer101 3 года назад
Driver size isn't as important as you might imagine. If it was, SVS would be using 18" drivers exclusively. For the PB-16 Ultra, which is only slightly larger than the VTF-15 driver, SVS felt they needed a MASSIVE 8" voice coil to prevent driver flex, which creates distortion. No comparison to the VTF-15 by the way. 1,500 watts vs 600 watts RMS is not a small difference. Major difference in explosiveness. Both will go louder than you could stand. The PB-16 Ultra will give a better spleen massage at the same volume. By the way, it's best to order factory direct with SVS. I'm an affiliate for Amazon and SVS, but not only do you get a discount for duals directly with SVS, but you also get the 1 year trade up, which you don't get from Amazon or other dealers, as far as I know. I'm considering the PB2000 Pro vs. the Hsu VTF-2 MK5. There's obviously a substantial price difference, mitigated in part by the shipping. Another reviewer preferred the Hsu over the original PB2000, but the Pro sounds like a rather different kettle of fish. We can certainly afford either, but I'd rather not spend more money if it's not going to make much of a difference It's going to be one for starters, whichever sub. The issue is we'd have to reconfigure things to fit a second sub. My wife's not entirely opposed to the idea, but at first it's just going to be one. I replaced our audio gear about a year ago with B&W 603's and an ASW610. The 603's are fine, but I definitely should have done my research on the sub; the ASW610 just isn't much of one. I used a good recording of Also Sprach Zarathustra as a test, and the low organ tone definitely broke up and wasn't close to tactile. I'm interested in any thoughts on this; I'm having difficulty finding comparison reviews.

So if we follow your train of thought on the two vs one theory why not just get four or six subs? Your actually telling makkkk4444 to put two SB 3000's in a 10x12 room? You did not ask any questions regarding what amplification, sound processing, speakers he has. You simply make a statement that two is better than one. My point is this, the multi sub crowd as they continue to grow all say the same thing, it's like political talking points. If you can't get explosiveness SPL or whatever your looking for out of a SB 3000 in a 10 x 12 room I don't know what to tell you. You could buy three and gain them all down so your nowhere near the sub's capabilities. I guess i missed something in the video about balance, gains and do we actually have other speaker or are we just listening to subwoofers?
@Subwoofer101
@Subwoofer101 3 года назад
Size of the room is a moot point to me, unless it's a massive room. Only then would it affect my decision. If you need to fill a massive room, then you should go with a more powerful sub, as you're more likely going to have the overall volume higher in general. Otherwise, if you go with a bigger, more powerful subwoofer in a smaller room, you will get the same benefits as if you would put them in a larger room. I'm speaking primarily of the explosiveness. No matter which subs you go with, you're going to have small room issues. Those will have to be dealt with anyway. But why go with dual PB-2000 Pro's, over dual PB-1000 Pro's in a small room? Because just like in a big room, you're going to get more realism and explosiveness out of dual PB-2000 Pro's. You'll have the same room issues regardless, and those can be dealt with. This isn't a guess. I've done this very thing in my RV. PB-4000s, PB-3000s, PB-2000 pros, PB-2000 originals. Not a single one of those subwoofers overpowered my RV in a dual configuration. The explosiveness just got more and more impressive. Pretty hilarious overall. The 4000's and 3000's were just insane. Even the PB-2000's are shocking enough for what I'm trying to do. Surprisingly, the balance of gain was relatively the same as in the house. So if I ran -16 gain on the subs in the house, I might run -17 in the RV with the same subs. Just 1 dB lower. Also surprisingly, I prefer the RV over the house system. The house has an old noisey floor, and too many hard surfaces. In the RV, I'm able to hear more detail. Less sound coloration from the room, compared to the house. And I hope I covered this all, but my last thing is that I would definitely go with dual PB-2000 Pro's, over 4 PB-1000 Pro's. More than two matched subs would make everything sound a little smoother, but it won't improve the overall explosiveness the way going up in power would, all else being equal. I tried this, and while I found that the sound was a little bit smoother, it definitely wasn't more explosive. Same explosiveness, but a touch smoother. For me, I'm more apt to go with 2 better dual subs, over 4 less powerful subs. That's kind of funny because music is more important to me than movies. So you'd think that I'd prefer the slightly smoother sound, but I just feel like I'm getting more for the dollar spent by getting the more powerful subs. You're less likely to notice explosiveness when it comes to music. So it doesn't make sense, but that's how I'd do it regardless. I guess I just appreciate the improved giggle factor, when I do watch a movie. Hopefully that helps!
@glpdrum
@glpdrum 3 года назад
@@Subwoofer101 I get you're point I just think some people may choose one sub over the next because they think they need two right out of the box. What you call explosiveness I call pressure (SPL) but I think we're talking about the same thing. Disclaimer, up until recently I ran two subs. See my side of the scenario for just a minute. For reference, I'm in a 12x14 rectangular room with one SB-2000 Pro. With two subs (different brand but matching) I had trouble gaining them up to full potential/excursion without overdriving the rest of the system. With one running towards the top of It's capability (kind of) I find the increase in excursion helps pressurize the room. I tried Amp gain, voltage gain, channel gain etc. (I know you will say channel and voltage are the same and I get that). I always check to see if one approach changes the other to see if it's coming from the same side of the board as in a shortcut. I haven't followed your channel so if you have discussed things that I missed my bad. I'm sure you have just watched a sub's excursion and enjoyed watching that as much as the source providing it. I revert back to the 10x12 room, I personally feel there are probably other things that money could be better spent on without knowing his gear etc. That statement is somewhat misguided because your channel is about subs and I tend to look at the big picture without reading the fine print. I'll leave you with a question, All things considered I can get all the explosiveness/SPL I need now with one sub, why do I need another?
