That is awesome. The Starship Simulator soundtrack is quite classic while Underspace I felt you got quite creative to match the games feel? You should be proud 🚀
I've been playing and coding on space games since 1978 (no typo). The most frustrating thing about this genre is that there are always several games just on the verge of demo or alpha or beta, but very few ever go production. There is a perpetual "just over the horizon" promise of an incredible experience, with balance in features, quality, scalabilty, ongoing interest, and affordability. Devs don't get funding, they get bored, technology changes, and next year the cycle restarts. I think this efforts like this can only be successful with many passionate devs willing to put ego aside, and collaborate on tech, story, funding, marketing, and everything else required to make a single project make it to production.
Just started replaying X4 with the new beta. Only this time with dual sticks. Man what a great experience. It's hard to talk about space games, and not add X4 to the conversation. What space game to play in 2024? X4. What space game to play 5 years from now? Still X4. It's really the one space game that you can easily dump hundreds of hours into
That is why I cringe when Star Trek games is announced as now you can fight and conquer galaxies. Now you can fly the Enterprise and then it shows how you can dogfight. Like no that would be Star Wars (not strictly speaking but..). There should be finding other places with alien life and their technology. Then see what they have and what they want in terms of material. Of course there are conflict that requires dogfights but it should focus more on exploration.
Liked the idea of Space Trucker but, as with the more conventional land-based games, I was constantly jack knifing and having the container become uncontrollable 😆
I played the Capital Command demo and was actually quite underwhelmed. On the other hand I've been totally absorbed by X4 lately... what a fantastic game. Can't wait for the new content.
Yeah it took a little time with me but I did enjoy it. X4 is one of my favorite games of all time so you have my full agreement. Any new content is also welcome as a way to dive back in 😃
Capital Command looks like something I've been waiting a long time for, and had even started to consider trying to make myself... A modern spiritual successor to Nexus: The Jupiter Incident.
Yeah it looks awesome! I just wish it was going to be multiplayer... I don't usually play singleplayer games at all, although I'll probably still get it due to the realistic physics. It looks super cool.
Nexus was such a waste of potential. The story was great but they dropped the ball on making it non-linear. It could have been 5 times greater than it was. Ship customization was also superficial because there were only 1-2 setups that got you through the missions.
Me and my brother had a similar prototype. But we wanted to do it Eve style where we quickly found out server load through the damn roof, so we made it for home servers, like Minecraft. I wrote gravity and EM system. Out thing though was we had every single missile, cruise missile, gun emplacement, PD, every ship, every drone, it's own virtual operating system, so most things had their own copy of FreeRTOS but we had 2 others you could use, upside being you could modify every single little thing to your liking in software but it needs to be simplified. It has great challenges, like getting random procedural galaxies set up without breaking everything. The server part had *massive* memory leaks that were hard to solve, we needed to fake 128bit precision for every single star system in the galaxy. It would be ideal if we could just make 256 bit precision. The whole server part needs to be rewritten and I want to but each and every time I get too lazy. I do want to pick it up again. We will see.
I just started getting into space sims, so I was very happy to see there's so many good ones coming out. I'm looking for a new one to try, and if you have time I'd love to know which game you think has the best overall building options for ships and space stations? Building ships was by far my favorite part of Starfield, and I really want to play whatever game puts that in the forefront.
Welcome to Space Sims! Would be great top be just getting into them. X4 is really one of the best and more hardcore overall. But be warned it may have a learning curve for you!
Not that I thought of it when I watched the video but yes. I hope you mean the spaceships. Not the individual ships inside with loose wires hanging down or makeshift parts with loose parts vacuum tape (Starfield) to hold it together. Also they look like airplanes and not like, say, a Borg cube. (My observation after seeing the video. Two of the games are what I like most: Space Truckers because I also love Euro Truck Simulator 2 and the first game showing that I can’t remember the name off.
@@LTGamingRU-vid not yet. The development stage is still ongoing. When a playable sli e of the game is ready, we will look into either a Kickstarter or steam early access release. We will take community input on that and work with our community to make sure we deliver the best experience. Thanks for the reply !
@@LTGamingRU-vid my RU-vid channel has videoscfor the project. When production get a bit further along, we will try to develop a small demo or playable version. Thanks!
I'm decently excited for Star Trucker as an avid fan of space and trucking sims, I just wish the ships were more than "American trucks with rocket engines." I've been on the hunt lately for a really good hauling space game, even in something like X4 but all anyone points me to is Space Trucker. I'm still going to buy it but man... I want sleek hauling action. Also fantastic video! A lot of these I knew about but a lot I didn't!
@@LTGamingRU-vid same here… when it works. Been trying to save up for a better hauler than the Aurora I currently have but the verse seems against me sometimes 😅
@@LTGamingRU-vid I haven’t! Didn’t realize that was a thing! I’ll look into that. I have had my eye on the hull class of ships so I might go for the A. The hull C gameplay I’ve seen, docking in the special loading areas of stations is exactly what I’m looking for, but last I checked it wasn’t fully in game yet.
I was gutted when we got a PC as the family computer as we'd been asking for an Amiga. But Wing commander is one of my most loved childhood gaming memories.
Hey Luke, thank you for covering Hunternet Starfighter. I'm currently working on Hunternet's biggest gameplay update yet, fully operational carriers. These Star Destroyer scale ships will be at the core of war efforts in Hunternet's persistent world. o7
Count us extremely interested to cover the game moving forward! Really enjoyed putting it on this list and think it's a very ambitious project 🚀 Star Destroyers sound epic!
@@LTGamingRU-vidThank you Luke, it's looking like it will turn out to be something quite epic :)! Back to work, so I can share it with you guys as soon as possible :)
As a backer, I'm excited to see Hunternet on another space sim list. We still have a way to go before having many of the gameplay loops, but it is currently my absolute favorite space combat game. By the time Steam EA is available, it will be truly overall fantastic. I'm especially excited to see what Fernando/CPU Dreams(whom has already commented here) will come up with for an alien threat.
Good video, i really like your way you present the games and why you think they are worth our time :) I made our PR manager aware of your work. You might get a mail in the future (no promises though). EDIT: ah, i see he already wrote you, nice! :)
I've spent much more than 1000 hours in the fantastic X3 games! Thanks for the list, a few ones I didn't know about despite that space games are among my favorite :)
Most welcome. Yeah if you put in my time in X3 and X2 it must be around the same! The type of game that excites me. The list was fun to put together and always fun to raise awareness of new games 🚀🚀
Been playing Space sims for over 30yrs, Sorry, non of these titles appealed to me. (X4 is okay but still lacks that undefined something ) I'm sure they will be great games for some players though and thank you for the work you put into this video.
Fantastic video, I'm a big fan of the X series and space games in general. So looking forward to playing some of these titles. See a lot of demos are available now so you can try before you buy. One game not on your list which I'm looking forward too is Hell Galaxy. Thanks again and just subscribed to your channel 👍
Thanks so much for the kind words! and support :) I really enjoyed making this one. Yeah I was playing Hell Galaxy this week. A really good suggestion :)
For Star Trucker, I recommend you watch Space Truckers with Dennis Hopper! It's a cheesy sci-fi movie that contains a surprisingly convincing set of a space diner with centrifugal gravity, and similarly subtle loving attention to detail.
Always enjoy a trip thru the galaxies with LTG at the starship helm....another fine review packed with subjective and fair views....onwards and upwards x
I regular check new videos about upcomming spacegames.. i had all on wishlist minus the spaceminer.. ! dang.. that game look so sweet... i can not wait to release.. added to wishlist
i am currently looking for a game makeup of the original movie "the last star fighter" 1984, the game came out on NES. any one has the direction to the said game?
I feel like Starship simulator game is like Star Trek fans dream come true except it is not named Star Trek. But boy I can't wait to get this game. I already wish listed it!
What clear and concise presentation. You just got a sub. Can you recommend a game where space mining can be done with drones. Just looked up star citizen and omg you can blow yourself up mining!!! That is WAY TOO MUCH for me. Just looking for casual mailing but an in depth game. Not that interested in combat. Thanks!
For some reason (it's not space trucking) your comment reminded me of rebel Galaxy. I think it's the ost for that one, that's the music your space trucker would be listening to, lol
Do your fleets still struggle to stay in formation in X4? Cause that really killed the vibe last time I tried playing it. From what I just read, I assume it to still be the case... I honestly don't get what the point of playing the game is, when it can't even let you make a coherent fleet.
i would love a modern day remake of X-wing and TIE-Fighter in a open space MMO.... With the handling and look&feel of Star Wars Squadrons but other than that fully customizable ships, factions, resources. I wonder, why nobody is wanting to get the money, one could make out of such game if executed well.....
Although it's already released another good one is Delta V: Rings of Saturn. It uses the triangle symbol for delta so it's a bit tricky to find on steam but search for rings of saturn and it pops up. It's a 2D space mining game that features very realistic physics and has very much The Expanse vibe to it. I haven't played it in a bit but I know the developer at one point talked about reaching out to the creators of The Expanse to see if he could use Belter creole. Great list. I've seen a few on here that I'm going to take a look at already.
Missing *Falling Frontier* and *Era One* ! More are RTS-like than first-person space sims, but I'm super-excited for them, when it comes to Space-themed games!
I am currently playing Starfield but the space side is a little bit of a letdown. I would love the combining Elite Dangerous (for the space, selling and buying materials, to transport it from one planet to another) and Starfield (for the role playing, and also the ability to walk around in the ship, and the building your own ship, and the ability to walk around in cities).
Any of these games have research tree or training. Perhaps rare gear or rare pilot or other crew? thanks in advance. It can be any old game too. Thanks.
Unfortunatelly I never got into X4 even though have all the dlcs (and also will buy the next one) and spent far over 1000 h into X3TC trilogy. The X series always was about menu management, but X4 topped its predecessors by far. So I started Farnham's Legacy again.
How did you even play the Capital Command game? Ship won't move, and there is no "highlighted button" anywhere on the screen that activates the auto nav system. Was a total bomb of a demo. Couldn't do anything at all
I think you'd have more fun with Snowrunner. Do you know it? I know of a couple of drivers that like it, and I like it a lot myself. In space I don't think there would be very interesting terrain to go over.
as a longtime fan of the x series, timelines so far looks like many people aren't looking forward to it. one might say it's the "rebirth" of x4 dlcs. i hope i'll be wrong because i love x4 but so far it seems like most people who just wanna play in their empire aren't a fan of that scenario-concept and i can totally understand them. i hope those "scenarios" can be started from within the game and you don't have to exit to the main menu for them
Yeah they need to be integrated for sure. But it might be interesting to have some direction within the wider sandbox. Il get early access to this and keep you all posted! X4 got a lot of future on the channel :)
x4 foundations imo is vastly under rated. it is an amazing game. I feel they advertise it poorly.. (1 big turn off is the title X4, makes it sound turn based, add on top that the look at the galaxy 2d look with hexagons. it looks sounds like galactic survival and games like it....... not bad just not new and worth the money they are asking... they dont show what all u can really do in the x4 and it turns a lot of people off before getting it. 2nd is yes the ui and menus for people who get it. that could be cleaned up i feeel i personally not a fan of the story quests......... add on top they are buggy and i personally struggle to figure out wtf they want me to do. that said i skip all quests i can because of that..... beyond that i love the game. the freedom to do almost anything.
Everytime I read "Space Simulation", my hope goes up. But, with the exception of "Starship Simulator", these games are all just fighting simulators in Space. Where is the fighting-free exploration of a realistic galaxy? Well, "Space Simulator", if it gets developed that far.
I'm not interested in Starship Simulator because they are trying too hard to make it look like Star Trek without violating anyone's copyright. The game mechanics are certainly an achievement but if you're going to create a game, don't imitate someone else's ideas. In Star Trucker, I love how they have highway signs out in space.
Sadly X4 didn't run too well on my machine (RX 580) and the AI was horrible. Most things you have to do yourself because the AI can't handle it if you're in the same system...
