I cannot figure out how to restore an old iPhone 6. The phone says connect to iTunes, but it will not open anything on my iMac. It is not displayed in finder either. So frustrating.

Thanks so much. I could not get my new IPhone 15 to coneect with my 2015 Macbbok. I thought it was an issue with the new USB C connection. Tried an adapter, new cable and even took it to a repair place, It was it the Finder preferences. Did not have the right box checked. Thanks so much!!!!

I did method 4 of deleting the plist file, and now I am having trouble saving any documents to my desktop. All of the "permissions" are wrong. Do you know how to fix this? is there a way for me to get the "plist" document back or download one online?

My iPhone was missing from the Finder. The cable was fine, but the coupler it was plugged into did not recognize the iPhone. Once I plugged the phone into another coupler with the same cable, the Finder finally recognized the phone.
