I am working on developing a new design for my top bar swarm traps for honey bees. Have a look at the trap and let me know what you think. This design is not finalized and I am looking for feedback so do not be afraid to speak up. Once I settle on a design I will put out a video on building the trap.

I caught 1 last year. Traps are just now going out for this year. Fingers crossed 😁

I think if you check it often you'll be fine. If they are in there more than a few weeks, you could have a problem. I put out a little mini top bar nuc last year. Baited it with old comb and lemon grass oil. I caught nothing but I don't think there are a lot of other bees in my area. Interested to see how it goes.

I am considering making the front removable in case they do attach to the sides. If they do not start comb in the middle I may end up having to trim comb. My top bar nucs are too small for swarm traps I believe.

Most certainly. If I get the time I intend to build one this winter. Are you running layens?

Just starting my bee keeping journey have one laynes swarm trap building layens hive hopefully will catch bees this spring

If I can make a recommendation, build as many swarm traps as you can. I ran around 16 traps this year. Caught 11 swarms in them. The bees can always live in the swarm traps if you don't have hives built for them.

Hi. I am interested in trying to catch a swarm and or buying a colony. I am doing the research now. Did you have any luck with this?

I caught 1 last year and it was my first year. A lot of people catch a ton of swarms this way. It is like fishing though so you have to put in some work to find them.
