SPYPOINT is not as good as you’re saying I’m getting rid of mine they don’t send the pictures 90% of the time and I’m sick of them , I’ve had 3 go bad in the last week alone. Had 7 of them and I’m down to 1 working half assed . RevealX is the best hands down
Since making this, I’ve had some bad experiences with both spypoint and stealth customer support. Moving forward, I’m probably sticking with tactacam or moultrie.
We have 17 spypoints and had to return 3/4 of them. I have 5 spypoint flex on the way, hoping they fixed some issues with this model. Regardless, I'm getting some Tactacams, hearing much better things about the camera and customer support
I have 24 spypoint cameras. Two have been torn up by bears and one went bad on me. Spypoint replaced the bad one and I’m using the ones they bears tore up like regular trail cameras. I can’t complain about them too much.
I have the Wildlife Innovations Encounter camera and would not recommend. It was easy to download the app and set up the camera but then it works and then it doesnt. Even the app sometimes tells me it cannot find my account. Very weird. I will get pictures for 2 or 3 days from my hunting land then nothing for a week. I am not sure what is happening but I am done with WI cell cameras. I called their customer service and was on hold for more than 30 minutes. You have the option to put your number in there for them to call you back. It's been 10 days and no phone call from customer service, so customer service from Wildlife Innovations also sucks. Battery life is ok but I guess when you are only sending 3 days of pictures you dont use a lot of battery.
I typically avoid anything made my Wildgame innovations. I’ve never had a good experience with their cams as far back as I can remember so I’m not surprised.
Appreciate the effort you put into the video. One piece of feedback. You showed us the photo quality of the photos and videos stored on the SD card, not what was sent via cell service. I have the spypoiny and the default photo quality of images you receive via cell service is horrible. The whole point of these is to monitor primarily with your phone with their app, so seeing the quality of those images and the quality of the app is key. All the best, hope you keep it up.
These ones require a cell plan to send pictures to your phone. They still function like regular trail cameras though so you can always manually pull the SD card and check them on your computer.
I’m more concerned with what cameras actually work the best. Which ones actually send pics, which ones don’t mess up, freeze, go through batteries, etc
Overall really helpful information! Thank you! $2-5 dollar difference in plans adds up to a lot of money for some people over the course of the year. Wish you would have included more information regarding that.
That’s really good feedback. I appreciate the comment and I’ll make sure to include that in the next video. It was getting a little lengthy as it was so decided against including some of that info here.
I have a lot of wind on my property in Southern Colorado. I would like to know how they performed (in this price range) with regard to "false alarms" from wind blowing things
I appreciate the time you took to do all of these reviews, I know you spent a lot of your time to do this. I started last season with 2 spy points & I just bought 2 spy point Flex. I'm hoping the flex does a good job also. Great video, Thanks
Thanks Mike, I really appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment. I just picked up a flex to try out. Also hoping it lives up to its claims. Good luck this year!
@@NextStepOutdoors I also had bought 2 Spypoint Cell Links last year. Academy had them for $39 & the Micro's for $79. Right now they have the Flex for $99. It took me trying several of my old trail cam's to get the cell link to work but once I found 2 that worked they actually send better pictures. Also, the pictures are compressed for cell transfer but if you hit the HD button it will resend @ full HD. And I'm sure you already know this, that if you download the cards to you device the pictures are full HD. Thanks & good luck to you also.
I have had the Spypoint micro for a year, Energizer lithiums laster from October to July, it transmitted probably around 900-1100 pics during that time. Overall, for the money, i love it. The flash range during nightime is great.
Thanks brotha. No I didn’t include the prices because they are all so similar. They usually range from $5-15 a month depending on the number of pictures you want.
Informative video thank you. My question though is do these cell trail cams still function like a non cell cam if need be? If we decide not to use the cell data plan? Or are these lower quality pics/movies from traditional trail cams? Thank you
Very informative, thank you! Having no previous cell camera experience my initial camera setup was with Spypoint for these reasons: 1. Cost. I could get two Micro-LTEs (with a Pro deal) at the same cost of some of the other cameras listed (
DO not buy the SPYPOINT they have horrible non english speaking customer support who refuse to send your issue to a higher level support. The answer for everything is to change batteries and sd card
Yes, I liked all of the information you gave us is a very interesting, very waitress might know I have the Spypoint LM too and I like to know if you have ran that one yet and what do you think of you can make a video on it let me know and I’ll be sure to watch it. Thank you for your jobs. God bless.
Solid review. Really appreciate your effort. I *do* have a follow up question. I am just getting into cell cams, having one SPYPOINT and one reveal x. Both of these send really crappy pics on the basic plans. Please confirm the pics you showed in your review vid were taken off the sd card or from the premium HD plan and NOT the basic transmission plan. Thanks!!!
You are spot on. They come through to your phone a bit more compressed than they are actually on the SD card. This just because it takes so much data to transfer them. When you request the HD pic or pull the SD card, they will be full quality.
So when you say low glow ,can a human see the lights at all ???!,,, :) thanks I’m looking for this price range with no human seeing it , I hunt humans in my yards lol nice thanks BigAl California
Low glow is a super faint red light on the camera. If you are looking for one that has a completely invisible flash, this one is probably the best value. amzn.to/3EfbzOt
Had two Spypoint with solar cells. Picture download was intermittent, quality so so, both died in a year because they can’t withstand rain. Open the door and there is a puddle inside. Nice review though.
That’s a bummer. I just got a couple of those to try and so far so good. It’s been super dry the last month or so since they’ve been in the woods though. You’re not the first person I’ve heard that from though about the water.
I haven’t used a cellular trail camera as all my cameras are deep in the National Forest. I get a cell phone signal in there sometimes but not always. Any recommendations on what camera might work in this scenario?
There’s some new ones that are “dual sim” so they are compatible with ATT and Verizon and will automatically switch back and forth to whatever one has the stronger signal at the time. The spypoint flex and moultrie Edge are the two that I’ve seen. I’ve yet to try them though but could work for you.
Great video. I personally use 8 stealth cams with Verizon cell service. Never had a issues with them. In the past I've used 6 spypoints. I loved the size of them, but had cell issues, and battery problems after 2 months of use.
What stealth cams do you run? The spypoints can be a pain each year updating firmware, etc but once they are setup properly, I’ve had great success with them lasting an entire season and well into spring on one set of lithium batteries.
@@NextStepOutdoors I use 8 stealth cam fusion x. Currently they are buy one get one. My dad bought 4 more since they've been great for us. Also the plan is 3 cam for $50 then $5 each cam after, unlimited. I haven't used the spypoints in over a year, I try updating it again and see if they are any better.
For the Tactacam plan options, what would I receive with the Pro Plan Unlimited? It shows that HD Photos/Video are extra ($5 per 50). If I didn't choose to down HD, would I still be able to down SD photos without any additional charge to the Unlimited Plan?
Correct. You’d would see every picture the camera takes in the Tactacam App. The pictures are good enough quality to see what’s going on. The only time I download them is if it’s a really big buck and I want the HD pic to drool at and send my friends.
What are the bettery times on these? I'd like to know in future reviews if they are battery or lithium, etc. Do they even make these cans with lithium batteries?
They all vary. I only run lithium batteries in my trail cameras. Depending on if you are getting a handful of pictures a day compared to setting up or a bait pile, the battery life will change dramatically. The transfer frequency also affects battery life. So if you have it send you a picture after every single trigger, it will eat up your batteries. I normally set mine to just transmit pictures once or twice a day. The best battery life I’ve seen is the link micros. They will last an entire season+ on one set of lithium batteries.
just got a spypoint flex...Two thumbs ...DOWN......3-5 hours to send pictures to my cell phone....wish I'd known this before purchase...🤷♂...my 2 micros send within 5 minutes...
Great video, I’m assuming eventually you rather have all cameras of the same brand because you would want them all to be on the same cell phone plan, right ?
It really doesn't matter. The only advantage of having the same brand is you would have fewer apps required to manage the cams remotely. I really don't mind having multiple though.
Great video. I have 9 Fusion X cameras which initially worked great but now I have a lot of problems with the Command app and customer service is no help. Can you please comment on the reliability and customer support for the Tactacam Reveal XB?
I just bought a Fusion X. When setting it up, the QR set up only allows me to have the $20/mo data plan. I want to start with the $5 plan. Do you know how I can do that? Thx.
Great review! I have just 2 follow up questions. 1: did you try any of them in areas with poor signal and noticed that some worked better or were more reliable at sending the photos in those areas? 2: do all of them have a detachable antenna and if not which ones did? I use these for my work which often has me in areas with poor signal. I will then use a boosted antenna with a long extension cord attachment to the camera so I can get that antenna higher up in the tree for better signal.
I believe all of them have a detachable attenna. The only cell cam I have that you can’t is the new moultrie edge. For question #1 some where definitely in poorer service areas but I didn’t have a good control on the study to compare them against eachother. Some cameras had perfect service so I can’t say which ones did better than others in that regard.
Awesome comparison vid, very helpful. I'm looking for a new one, currently running the reveal gen 1. Would love to see a review on the cams apps, how they function comparatively, how user friendly, can you use app to control functions on all, issues w apps receiving pics, etc. Great job & thanks!
That is a great suggestion and I appreciate the feedback. Glad you are finding these helpful. A lot of time and effort goes into these videos so happy that they are paying off for other people.
hey man, thanks for the info clip on all the cell cameras. Just one question, of all the cameras that have the video function, are they able to record to to take video continuous footage for long periods of time (like 24hrs straight) without having to triggered by the motion sensor?
Bought 2 Stealth cams. 1 worked, 1 didn't. Company help line rings and rings, no answer, no recorder. Left e-mail with company, no return response. Stealth cam customer service is non existent. I'll never buy a Stealth brand camera from this company again.
Great job ! I have the OG Tactacam out with a winghome solar panel and it has been out almost a year and is always at 100% battery. Love the Tactacams . Keep up the great work !
I appreciate it! I’ll check out the solar panel that is one thing I haven’t played around with too much but would definitely help, especially running cams far from home.
I bought a stealth cam sonix. What an absolute mistake. It took one picture. Now it won't recognize an sd card. I have had no luck with customer service. At this point it is a hundred dollar lesson. Hopefully someone will read this and not make the same mistake I did.
I use spy point and the Muddy. I have such a hard time getting a cellular signal with the spy point. If I can not get a signal I go to the Muddy and never have an issue. All my cameras are Verizon. I think I'm going to try AT&T with my next couple of cameras.
Have you tried them at your house first or somewhere with good service to make sure it’s activated properly? Otherwise maybe trying the other provider I’d a good idea in your area. That’s the one tough part about cell cams is sometimes the places you want to put them don’t have service.
@@NextStepOutdoors I did the activation and set up at my house and didn't have any issues with both Spy Point and Muddy. It's when I drive 8 miles down the road I start having issues with the Spy Point but no issues with the Muddy. The one issue I do have with the Muddy is it doesn't send you all the pictures it takes when the Command app. is set to send them once or twice a day. It needs to be set to instant or instant group to get all the pictures or you need to go swap the SD card.
From my experience with the command app which is both muddy and stealth cam. I didn’t realize stealth owned muddy but when you have it send once or twice a day it sends a whole batch of every picture it took since the last transmission. Same goes for the other camera brands. I’ve never noticed pictures that I didn’t get to my phone that I saw when I pulled the card. Are you sure about that part?
@@NextStepOutdoors yup. When I would change out the SD card and look at the pictures I would see pictures that was not sent. It was driving me crazy. It was like, I don't remember that picture or that one and so on. On the most part if you get sent 25 pictures the camera may have actually taken 27 or 28.
That’s interesting I’ll have to keep an eye out for that but as I mentioned I haven’t observed that. Bet in an area with spotty service that could happen more frequently. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Can you turn off and on your camera from phone settings through app... Say if I only wanted to take pictures at certain points of the hour.. I'm building a house it's an hour away so I want to just try to look at some progress once in awhile but I don't want to take 500 pictures in 1 hour
Do u know if u are getting all the photos sent to u? I have a spypoint and I back it. Up with a regular cam and wasn't even getting half photo sent . It was one pic sent to phone to 56 . And yea I have unlimited pic to be sent .. and it's micro
That’s a test I’ll need to do. When I pull them out of the field in the next few weeks, I’ll try and compare how many pics are on the sd cards to what the apps show.
I have a stealth cell camera, my account got deleted twice and their costumer service is nonexistence...pretty sure muddy is in the same family, I wouldn’t recommend either.
I love my SPYPOINT but if you want your batteries just set it up to down load once a day but the more you down load the more your batteries go down and I set it up to down load once a day with lithium batteries and they have lasted me up to almost two years.
I normally run all my cell cams to just transmit once in the AM and once in the PM. The only time I will do more frequent is if it is the rut. They usually last the whole season still with lithiums.
What about solar and battery life. To elk hunt these need to be more than 2 to 3 hours away. And can i hve them higher aiming down so the don't get stolen.
I have a Bushnell sell your core 20 and we got some cold weather then started raining and it stopped working I brought in the house then I started working again I'm not sure what's up with that
I have had a spypoint cam for two years and it never worked they sent me a second one and I can get it to work either. I will never buy from them again.
Thanks for all the great information. Wish I had come across this video sooner. I bought a Muddy and had a lot of issues with it. Ended up hanging a second camera on the same tree and found it was only taking a third of the pictures it should have. Some of the missed pictures were of deer less than 10 yards away. And their customer service was a joke.
Tacticam is the best can also the new ones have gps built in so if it gets stolen you can go find the person and shoot an arrow into there knee cap. Great vid
Yeah, I've gotten to be quite a fan of tactacam. I tested the new Reveal X pro this year and plan to make a video about it soon (along with the other new ones I tested.)
They just function as normal trail cams then and won't transmit pictures. You'd probably be better suited just getting a regular trail camera and save a few bucks.
I didn’t hear anything about how hard they are to set up, receiving the pics and them working like they claim. That’s what I wanna know. If they aren’t easy to set up, have decent CS, and reliable, I don’t want them. That’s what a lot of these videos don’t cover. Setup Reliability Customer Service I can deal with 16mp but no point in 30mp and .2sec trigger speed if they don’t work All these vids showing the same thing their sites and boxes claim Edit:and battery life, it would be nice to know battery life
Those are all great points. So far, they have all been pretty smooth. The only customer service dealings I’ve had lately are sending my bushnell back because one of the door latches snapped off. Waiting on a verdict but hoping they either repair or replace and ship it back to me. In future videos, I’ll probably review a smaller number of cameras so I can go deeper into detail on the other points you suggested.
Good afternoon. I'm looking In to cellular Trail cameras. For my city to use. To catch illegal dumping. This is the only video I've seen on Cellular . Do we you know how much and who provides the cellular services. Thank you.
Most are either ATT or Verizon. They all come with preactivated sim cards though and are controlled through an app. It is 100% independent from you cell phone provider.
🙋♂️question? lol how well does the Fusion X and the Tactacam hold up to rain and dew in your opinion? Thank you for your review on all these cameras 🤙
I’ve never had any camera be damaged from rain, etc. sometimes if your cam is in a low spot that gets foggy often, the lens will get some condensation on it. You can treat the lenses with rain X and that won’t be an issue anymore.
I assume you need good cell service where you set the camera? Our property only has one spot where we get a signal. I don’t want to invest in a cell cam if it won’t work on my property. Thanks!
CAN SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE! I want to buy a trail cam but I haven't figured out which one to buy and I've been looking at them for the past month! I thought the E6 was the way to go because it's got everything I need... I need Bluetooth so I can put pictures directly from the camera onto my phone cuz I don't use a computer... I'm kind of lost as far as if I need Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. I thought Bluetooth is what I needed in order to hook it to my phone and transfer pictures / videos. Also has to have time lapse mode, built in screen, clear pictures day and night without a visible flash at night time and clear audio, I don't know if this is available but I would like to be able to control it from my phone if I'm in range and make it record when I tell it to whether it be a picture or video/audio that would be nice. I'm going to probably end up using it mostly for security/surveillance type of applications. I want to make sure it take the picture at the right time to get whatever it is in screen... I watched and I saw someone said the Gu gardepro E8 constantly was taking pictures where you wouldn't see what was tripping it and on top of that it was extremely grainy blurry pictures if it was up close and they said the E6 was it not blurry up-close as well as didn't miss what it was supposed to take the picture of and a few other things but it seemed like the E6 was much better than the E8. Also it has to be under a hundred bucks preferably closer to 80 or below. I saw the E6 on Amazon for like a hundred bucks and then it had a coupon attached to it where would come out to be around 70 or $80. Anybody who could help me figure out which one I should buy I'd highly appreciate it! I really want to order it and get it ASAP I wanted it like 2 weeks ago but I don't want to get the wrong one
Wonder if there is a setting to change for the shutter speed. I’m playing around in the app and don’t see one though. Was the deer running or just walking?
Michigan hunter here. All types of weather humid, warm, hot, cold. Have done spy point micro, stealth fushion x, reveal xb. I agree reveal has great qualities, pictures, video, no flash BUT, batteries go twice as fast especially with higher quality picture setting and video and takes more batteries than others to run. If you have an active area every 1 to 1-1/2 month could be changing batteries if your lucky,(not using cheap batteries either) especially in cold, only way I would run these is with solar recharging battery that is added cost. For this reason, I don’t feel (my opinion) the quality is much different to the stealth fushion x for that reason I’ll be selling the reveals and buying more stealth. Subscription/Package is slightly cheaper to run on stealth too. Overall both good but when your running more than 2 cameras, stealth is cheaper with same quality I feel. Side note, spy point wasn’t bad, just like other two better. Just my 2 cents.
With the cost of batteries these days, I've been slowly switching over to the 12v batteries with built in solar panels that tactacam offers. Even on a food plot on video mode, it has yet to dip under 100% battery. Thank you for your feedback though. I've recently had a bad experience with stealthcam's customer service, so I've been avoiding them since.
I am on year 2 with the Spy point SOLAR battery, as while the pictures are good to get information, VERY disappointed in the battery. On a full charge (and being solar) the battery dies in about a week. NOW this may be due to colder weather but it was starting to get drained of battery in 40-50 degree. Sucks having to bring in and charge.
Are you running the solar micro? I’ve tried 2 this year and they’ve been working out well despite lots of negative reviews about getting moisture in them. I’m sure they’ll quit as soon as the warranty ends tho…lol
Think U did a great job on this vid!!! So I subscribed as well as beside liking! The 1 thing many Game cam reviews always seem not to mention is if the camera has a port for a 12v external battery...For me its an important feature... so maybe can can tell us if the Tacticam & SpiPoints do? Thanx for an in depth video on cell cams, I'm thinking of tryin one!
They all have them, however, I believe tactacam has a special size port so you need to use cables specifically sold by them. I just got some of the solar panel/12v battery combos through tactacam and am excited to try.
I am no my 3rd Apeman H45 (as in I now have three actively set up and working). They are no longer reviewed on YT or sold on Amazon but I fin them amazing and simple to use and reliable. I love them. Great support too. And cheap.
I know my experience with spypoint may not be the same as other people. I’m sure that some have had no issues. I bought a micro last year and could only get 25% signal where I had it, but still got pics although it might send them 50 at a time. This year I have 100% signal and after the couple of weeks before season opened it had sent maybe 25 pics. My other camera that isn’t cellular, which is at the same location had 1400+ pics in the same couple of weeks. Not tell anyone not to buy one just telling my experience.
I've been starting to change my position on spypoint. Most of my new cameras are Tactacam or Moultrie and I've yet to have a problem with either. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Plans are super important. I have the Moultrie Edge, with the base plan. That's up to 1,000 pics/month. Since the does like to graze around after I put out some corn, I might easily get 250 pics/night. So, that's going to be a problem. Also, they don't mention that if you want to actually see a 33Mpixel picture, you have to pick one of the low res. pics that you get normally, and ask the the camera to download you the high res. pic the next time it checks in... and you only get 5 high res./month. So, choose wisely. Also, you only get 10 videos/month. I haven't actually turned that feature on yet, I'm saving it till the week b4 season starts. I assume I'll end up with 5 videos the first night, so that will suck.
I recently added two of them to my Arsenal. One was placed in an area with iffy service. The one thing I don’t like is the fact that there is no sd card. All other cell cams will still take pics and save them to the sd card when there is not enough service to transfer to the cloud. I do not believe the edges do that unless they have some amount of internal memory.
I have Moultrie. I have the 6000 and Delta in my arsenal. The older 6000 way outperforms the newer Delta. I have some even newer Moultrie Edge cameras on the way, going to see how they perform.
I'm happy with all of my Moultries. I have the 7000 and its still performing beyond expectations. The delta is super cheap, but I still feel they do an adequate job. I've had to Edge's in the woods for the season and they do pretty well. They one thing I'm wondering is if I can review all of the videos that it takes at some point. Since they have built in memory and do not take an SD card and you are limited to how many of the videos you can request with your plan, I'm hoping I can hook up to the camera directly once I pull it for the year and look at those some how.
I have a few questions about signal/service out in the woods. If anyone could chime in on that for me I would appreciate it. I don’t have cell service where we hunt would this affect my pictures when I’m at home? also is the plan through my phone provider or the cell camera I decided to purchase? Thank you
The plan for the camera is independent of your cell phone plan. It is managed on the app for whatever camera brand you choose and they all come with preactivated SIM cards. As far as service goes, you need to have decent service in the area you plan to set up your camera or it won’t be able to transmit the pictures.
Spypoint customer service sucks and all the cameras I've used did as well .... maybe they better now... I own 3 tactacam and one I'm having issues with waiting on service to get back to me but great cameras... but still others on the market he didn't review for more options but some more Money
I’m still trying to find a great cam at a great price with great customer support. Tactacam may be the best overall so far. May or may not have ordered a couple more this week to try. Don’t tell my wife 🤫
I just got two Tactacam gen 2 and image Is complete trash for about 15 yards out and you have to request everything in HD for additional price these might go back
I need a sample on setting them up windy a day with trees branches or tall weed/thicket brushes swinging around back and forth. Most of mine trigger hundreds of false pictures on a windy day that really sucks.
That is tough. I make sure to clear as much foliage that could blow around in front of the cams as possible. Sometimes, there is no avoiding it though. Most of the cams have the option to lower the sensitivity of the sensor tho in that case.
