When Elsa is waving to you it is the plan B mode for when the boat won't move so she ends up finishing the song and switches her routine movements to waving at the visitors to keep the magic alive
That B mode on Elsa is one of the most amazing things Disney has ever done, keeping the magic alive even when the ride breaks down. But that last one is proof that Animatronics are superior to Screens. They just created a new Belle Animatronic for Tokyo, why can't they give Elsa a physical face?
it looks more natural with a screen. also its way to expensive and way to hard to fit all those mechanical parts in a human head. they did it for the lincoln animatronic. but only for that. it takes way to much to make the skin move naturally and to make the mouth sync with actual words. its easier to just add a screen on the face and it looks natural.
I think... 1. High demand. I know that it’s quality over quantity, but I also know that this ride took long enough without that added in and people were itching for the ride. 2. In general, it’s difficult 3. Because of how the movie was animated it makes sense that they would try to keep it that way. 4. The technology that is used in the new ride in Tokyo is, like, BRAND NEW, so they wouldn’t have had it when the ride was first developed. But who knows? Maybe they’re working on another head/face for Elsa and the others behind the scenes :)
At 3:09 the animatronic isn’t broken, otherwise it would have stopped moving all together, it was the ride vehicles that had missed the connection to the next part of the track you go down. (It happens way more often then it should because you only need to miss the mark by like 1/16 of an inch for everything to stop and go wrong!) Once she has preformed her programmed movements for ‘Let It Go” she goes into ‘another mode’ you could say. This consists of waving, looking around (aka: head movements), breathing and the projection is also programmed to go into a ‘neutral’ look/setting. ’She continues doing that until the next boat sets off a chain reaction in a circuit (a pressure plate of something along those lines because it depends/varies) before they go into that room/around the corner, then she resets and does the “Let It Go” ‘dance’ again. Hope this helps!!!
I am glad someone else in the comment section actually understands some of this. This ride uses automatic electromagnetic sensor guidance. It’s a common system for this. This system was first used in tower of terror and then as the technology progressed, it was used in more and more running rides using non linear systems. However, this electromagnetic sensor is very very small. And not very sensitive. If the onboard computer is off by such a small amount, it stops. I myself, actually am fond of projection face systems. Move expressive, and more cartoon like. Again though, there is a bit of a problem, in which some may refer to as the eyeshadow problem. This is caused by the animatronic’s projector not being bright enough to light the face when the emergency lights turn on. In effect, it makes the face dark. Very very dark. The eyes look grey, and the skin looks darker. The real non-projected face/the actual plastic or foam head, is in fact dark dark grey-ish black. Then a projector lights it up and does not light areas like the pupils and such.
Griffen Arthurs Griffen Arthurs I am also very glad that somebody understands, even more than me haha! Everyone just assumes that because a mechanic is different compared to when they have rode it before, they just assume that the ride or animatronic has broken! I have also heard of the animatronic face complaints/the eyeshadow problem or effect, but have yet to see it with the actually emergency lights on, even in video form. Since I live in the UK and I’m probably not ever going to go to Disney it is the only thing I can rely on! :(
Interesting! You learn something new every day. I must say, however, that Elsa's 'neutral' face looks like she's stoned. Could she not have been programmed with a cheerful smile while waiting for the ride to resume? Also, I assume the 'waiting mode' of waving / looking around are for the purpose of maintaining the lifelike appearance of Elsa, so as not to "break the magic?"
Wow I always knew that happened but I never knew how it did. Some people don’t realise when you go onto a specific part of these animatronic rides you will hear the same audio play at a certain time.
Considering she was drunk in Frozen Fever I’d say she has a substance problem. It’s not a good idea to drown your bad feelings in drugs and alcohol, Elsa.
I wish they would change her facial expression during B mode, when she waves it looks like she's just like "fuck I hate my job, pls fix the ride and get them out of here" LOL
I'm thoroughly amazed they don't have a backup plan if the Elsa audioanimatronic gets stuck, i.e. a video screen that drops-in like Na'vi River Journey or swaps-out like Rise of the Resistance.
1:42 the ride has a compartment nicknamed: Floom, has jammed and can’t transport the boat down the hill. It happens quite frequently 3:38 is the data base, forgetting what it move to do and instead does this. Either that, or something jammed
The second to last one isnt really an animatronic failure its just the ride itself that failed, if the ride gets stuck elsa starts to wave to the passengers so she wont just stand there I guess, its just a little disney style detail they put in because the ride used to stop quite often
I can't get over how uncanny valley the projected on faces are in this ride. Compare it to the beautiful Beauty and the Beast animatronics that seem like animation given life for the Tokyo Disneyland and it's an obvious poor-man's version.
The Elsa waving thing happens when the ride freezes/breaks after the song, so she doesn't just sit there doing nothing while they fix it. At least that's what I've heard.
FairlyFickle personally I waited about two hours for the ride... honestly it was worth it to me because of the experience. It’s so amazingly beautiful in person, I just wish that the music was louder honestly lol. The graphics are just magnificent and it gives you a buzz of magic, like really! I seriously love the ride and think it’s worth the wait
@@camerondkirby oh the ride itself looks fantastic, i completely agree! i'm just saying it must suck to wait the two hours and then have the ride malfunction, that's all. but yeah, i hope to get there someday to experience it!
At least they changed the Elsa animatronic in Hong Kong Disneyland and made it more real…whenever I go there, I just can’t help but gasp whenever I see it. 🥰
I went on the little mermaid ride and at one point it stopped. I was right in front of Ursula who was singing poor unfortunate souls and she was still moving a little bit. It’s amazing how somewhat realistic they are so I was scared (especially since Ursula was starting right at me)
Catherine Eckels she was supposed to be doing Let It Go like at the end but it malfunctioned and the animatronic is set to wave when it malfunctions so kids do not realize it is not real.
There is another comment on this video posted by EmmzerGamez explaining that the boats are supposed to set off a trigger and that tells Elsa perform let it go but either this boat missed the trigger or got stuck so she went into idle mode which is just waving, usually she's only go into this mode when nobody is around to see her (So she's normally waving at nobody) she is not broken it's programmed to do that
Dude I went on this ride a couple days ago and we got stuck like right before the drop at let it go and it was hilarious everybody was singing along to let it go when we got stuck until the song stopped
yea i argee with you Memsly Mem maybe the tv screen ran out of power that she looks like slenderman but slenderwomen. also she is on a tv when you exit the room.
