I used to wear baggy T-shirts and baggy pants/jeans when I was a teenager back in the late 90s. Now I can't imagine myself wearing them again. I don't really follow trends and I just choose whatever clothes that look nice on my body.

I’m 61 and really don’t do trends either. I may change a pant shape, like now I’m moving from more slim fitting pants to trousers style pants but mostly I dress in what’s best for me. Yes, for showing diversity!

Loving the orange trend! BTW...your hair looks FABULOUS! In the African American community we have been embracing “going natural” for a couple of decades! So glad that others are doing the same!! You look AMAZING!!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

I don’t know how many people in the black community you’re referring to, because it’s unfortunately still weaves (puerto rican and Indian hair, not their natural aesthetic), wigs, relaxers, blonde dye (which more often than not doesn’t work) etc that I see most often. This so called natural hair is relatively new in mainstream discussion and usually shows a neat head of curls. Most black people without mixed bloodlines have naturally much tighter coils (nappy hair), and that isn’t depicted often but seemingly sugarcoated with these neat curls. Just the truth. I really would wish many more in the black community would go authentically natural and discover/teach the best way to look after black hair and skin as well so that they can sell many more hair/skin products in grocery stores, but there isn’t nearly enough self acceptance yet.

Thank you for your comment/perspective. I guess it depends on where you live, work etc. While it is true that the number of weaves/extensions are represented in our (I assume you too are AA), I leave in a large metropolitan community in the “dirty South,” and natural hairstyles are well represented in my area. Either way, unlike 30+ years ago when crossover R&B artists hit the pop music scene(MTV, VH-1, BET) and weaves were almost exclusively “the normal,” we have come a VERY LONG way!😃

@@mysticheart1049 I agree. Even in a Black wrk place I get pushback and I’m considered wavy hair. But no frizzy fuzzy bad hair days are allowed even coming off a pandemic.

I think the over the top, "Bridgerton Effect" sounds fun. This year I have really started using clothes as creative selfexpression, even if I'm only going to the gym, group store or my little bubble friends at home. I would counterbalance a lacy, puff sleeve shirt with combat boots or sneakers to add some unexpected edge.

I do agree with you. I'm seeing pastels everywhere! I for one have always had my wardrobe full of dark & bold colours. And now I suddenly see myself purchasing tan pink & pastel green t shirts 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 You're right when you say we need these colours to feel dreamy & comfy after all that the world has been through. Pastels do make you calm. I also think pastels would do great with an existing black & blue wardrobe. Maybe this way we can add some colour to boring corporate dress codes. I'm both nervous & excited. This is my first time delving into the pastel lane!

completely agree with you, fashion discussions might seem irrelevant during tough times, but they are not. how we dress at a particular time is an expression of the ebb and flow of history and how we externally deal with what’s happening.

I am very much looking forward to the Bridgerton-Effect. It will be so much fun being able to dress up and have fun again. As for pink, I love wearing bright and dark pink lipstick in Spring and Summer. It is a classic and fun alternative to red, that never goes out of style.

I am a huge advocate for quality over quantity. in fact, I have a smaller wardrobe than I used to and more content with my outfits choice. I couldn't understand at first as to why people would spend a lot of money for a simple garment like a white shirt. but the more I learn and understand the material and how it's made, the more I appreciate the process. I am one of those people who wants more clothes and always follow the trend. it baffles me how I was never happy and comfortable with what I was wearing. this journey has taught me a lot especially since covid. this pandemic is such a curse and blessing at the same time. regardless, I am happy of what I curated my wardrobe so far :)

Quality has really resonated with me this year since I haven’t felt the usual “need” to buy much. If there’s one positive of this whole global pandemic, maybe it is a turn away from consumerism (for me at least). Your color videos have really provided me with some lightbulb moments too - please make more for spring especially as you fold in more gray-wash colors!

I have always lived by the quality over quantity lifestyle. I wear my clothes for many years. My cost per wear is fabulous. I add updates with color, scarves....in other words with accessories. I am really liking the high waist jeans in straight leg or slim leg. I am petite and cannot wear bulky leg jeans. Color is something I enjoy and use it year round. I am not purchasing lounge wear as I prefer to get "dressed" each day. I am more productive that way. I do not purchase trends unless they are in my style and I need them. Enjoyed your topic.

The dresses and jewelry in the series Reign are so gorgeous! So inspiring! I'm not usually so taken by fashion, but that series just really grabbed me with the fashion! Love your channel. I liked the Brigerton effect. I’ve always like this idea. My parents never wore jeans. My father would wear suite pants ,button down shirts and a. Bow tie or tie on the ranch, of course he was retired.

Thank you- loved all your ideas! I like the pretty, soft pastels, and some of the brighter pops of color like turquoise and fuchsia. I adore my skinny jeans, but am ready for a switch-- a higher waist and loser fit.

Very interesting Audrey. I’ve always been a quality over quantity person and don’t buy many clothes. I get years of wear out of what I have. I don’t think I will follow the OTT trend. I heard the Pantone colours of the year are a grey and a yellow. The yellow is a bit strong for me and I don’t suit it but I have a scarf which will work. I didn’t know about the orange and tangerine trend. Haven’t seen it in the shops here yet but we are a season behind. Nor did I know about the jeans style. I think that works for most people. It sounds like lots of nice options altogether. No crazy tie-dye or other trends that should never come back IMHO 🤣 so good news. Thanks for the overview Audrey!

I also really love the cultural trend towards minimalism / quality over quantity. The late 2000s/early 2010s seemed to be heavily focused on consumerism and fast fashion. (If you followed the RU-vid beauty/fashion community back then, it was the norm to see everyone constantly posting new shopping hauls without giving it any thought; channels like Audrey's didn't exist.) It's great to see so many people interested in taking a more sustainable and mindful approach.

Black dresses have been a wardrobe staple for the past two years. Recently, I have been saving images with a white, black, and camel color palette. However, that changed yesterday when I went to Zara. They have gorgeous, sharply tailored blazers and pants in warm pastels. I opted for a midi, floral dress in light blue, white, and green. I also bought a ballerina pink slip and beige linen pants. I felt so much lighter and happier in those clothes. Sometimes, participating in trends can give us a boost.
