You'd sware it was the Superbowl as he showed off WoodPeckers new sweet stuff. I sware its like they make their products for themselves. Like they are in quality control saying. Nope, were not putting that out till this that and the otherthing is taken care of. After all, were the ones using them first and if its not up to user specs then its not up to ours. The way routers were meant to be used. A bit of people complain about other WoodPecker products. That some are too complicated and too many pieces. Not true. Things always seem that way on demos until your used to it. WoodPeckers are built on Intelligence, space and time saving. My only hangup I can see so far is some products should have more hand screws, etc, instead of screws and allens. All in all, it truly is hard to fathom how one single unheard of brand name can consistently engineer soo many essential tools making the brand name standards go home crying at night.

Direction doesn't matter...just whatever is most comfortable for the operator. I didn't even notice that I had the little router mounted one way and the big router mounted the other. @@WoodpeckersLLC I agree wholeheartedly with Peter Kelly on this. Many woodworking gurus advise against using the flat side of a router base (when flat and round sides are available) because of the possibility of the base shifting away from the guide and thus off the line of cut. This exactly the same scenario. For me it would be a white-knuckle operation, hoping to keep the base firmly against the guide. Not interested. When you add an adapter to lock the base to the rail, so it can only slide but not move away, let me know and I'll reconsider.

Thank you for the video, it was very helpful. I have a question about the outboard clamp though. You did not appear to use it until you did your dado parallel to the edge of the board. Is there a reason it wasn't used on the earlier cuts or was it an oversight? Unless I'm missing something it seems like the router could be prone to slight side-to-side shifts without the use of that clamp.
@WoodpeckersLLC
@WoodpeckersLLC 3 года назад
The outboard clamp is a cool feature, and I use it most of the time...until I forget. I am vigilant about using it when I'm dadoing. But, less so when using the base to support edge forming. Chalk it up to laziness. Best practice is to use it all the time. Did that sound a little bit like "Do what I say, not what I do"? Sorry.

Does this base work with Bosch router ?
@WoodpeckersLLC
@WoodpeckersLLC 3 года назад
Sean, it depends on which Bosch router. And as of 10 minutes ago, it works with even more routers. If your router base is drilled for guide rods, and the rods can go through, it will most likely fit. We make rods in 5/16" (8mm), 3/8" (9.5mm) and 10mm. We've also just decided to add 1/4", which will work with 7mm holes, too. The small rods aren't on the web site yet, but they will be the first of the week. Check the holes in your router base using drill bits to measure the hole size.

I'm honest, I don't quite see the value added. The festool you used has an edge guide. The 50 dollar upgrade gives it rail support. Micro adjust is useful. The rest is just a simple pivot, which can be made witha screw, and scrap plywood (maybe some more effort to lock it in, like double sided tape. For a woodpecker product in the 500+ price tag, I would expect some features like flip stops, precision edge ruler scales, or the ability to clamp it square to two edges.

@charleskorman8748
@charleskorman8748 3 года назад
I watched the M power video. Functionality wise both extend capability of the router but the Woodpecker version looks to be better built and includes an edge fence which is a 30$ optional add on for M power. M power also shows an optional trim guide with a bearing but trim router bits have a bearing so this seems redundant. I assume that the Woodpecker would accommodate bushing applications.

I have the CRB7, and to be honest I just don't like it. It's impossible to center my router (Bosch MR23MVS) as Jeff did at the start of this video. The base if pretty flimsy. I don't think the micro adjuster is very smooth. I've used it on several projects, but I normally don't bother b/c the setup is so finicky. I agree with Charles Korman in that it seems the base, fence and micro adjuster is much better built. On the positive side, the M. Power unit does have a edge trimming kit that would seem to be useful.
@tomaseklund2299

I have the CRB7. The CRB7 is not compatible with the Festool OF 1400 router. Or rather the micro-adjust will not work with that router, bu the Woodpeckers MFRB will. I haven't seen the Woodpeckers' in person, but it looks a bit nicer and in my eyes it looks better engieered. The CRB7 feels a bit cheap and flimsy. If the Woodpeckers Multi-function Router Base came in a systainer, I would buy it and retire the CRB7.

why would you want to use a straight edge against a straight edge instead of the round base?
@WoodpeckersLLC
@WoodpeckersLLC 2 года назад
What the MFRB brings to the party is the ability to adjust the width of the dado without moving the straight edge. If you were using the base of the router (straight or round, either one), you would have to move the straight edge to make the dado wider and getting it exactly parallel to the first setting is pretty tough.

Michael -- I understand your frustration. Since you compared Kreg and Woodpecker, let's look at the two business models to see if we can come up with an answer to your lament about Woodpecker. Kreg is a mass marketer of woodworking tools and jigs. Their tools are sold through Home Depot, Lowes, Woodcraft, Rockler, Ace, etc. Their model requires Kreg to make huge volumes to supply all those outlets for their tools. In contrast, Woodpecker does not make tools and jigs for the mass market. It makes a variety of very high-quality tools in small batches. Small batches are necessary because it would be much more expensive for Woodpecker acquire enough space and machinery to keep each of their products in continuous production. By having customers preorder their tools, Woodpecker is able to accurately size each batch to meet demand. Again, this reduces the cost of making each batch. Imagine how much it would cost the company to have a few hundered of each product sitting on shelves waiting months or years to be sold! Note: I am NOT saying Kreg or Woodpecker's business model is better or worse than the other's. Each has adopted a model that is appropriate for the kind of market it is serving and the type of products it makes.

@@WoodpeckersLLC yes, we Germans know what we do, especially when we live in the south, around Stuttgart or Munich :-) And your Boss, Richard Hummel (or his parents) are also from Germany AFAIK?

Why does woodpeckers sell tools before making them?
@WoodpeckersLLC
@WoodpeckersLLC 3 года назад
The engineering work is done, the product has been field-tested, the marketing work has been completed but there's no machine time available and we're in a holding pattern for raw material (like every other manufacturer). You want us to just sit on it until we can make them? Sorry you have to wait, but we're doing everything we can to catch up. Shutting down the development program is not the solution.

Holy hostility batman! It was a simple question that I believe is valid because I have not found another company doing it this way. If you don't know why just say so. Sheesh.
@WoodpeckersLLC

No hostility intended, just trying to give you an honest answer. We would love to be able to deliver tools immediately after releasing them. But we don't have enough equipment or manpower to make that happen. We're adding machinery, buildings and people as fast as we can.

This base is meh. Why spend all that money, when you can achieve most of what you did here at a lower cost and using festool specific products like their micro adjust attachment. Using the rail is far more precise than pushing against it with this base.
@WoodpeckersLLC
@WoodpeckersLLC 3 года назад
But, not everyone has Festool routers and not all Festool router owners have the guide rail attachment. Nothing against that system, I use it myself, but it can't do arcs.
@dylanm3519
@dylanm3519 3 года назад
@@WoodpeckersLLC true about the router. But they have a fairly simple attachment that one can attach to the router for doing arcs and circular cutouts. Price wise, it would be less cost for me to get that piece, along with a thirty dollar micro adjust and I'd still be ahead cost wise, so i could spend it on another part for doing mortise and tenon.
@WoodpeckersLLC
@WoodpeckersLLC 3 года назад
@@dylanm3519 Get what is going to work for you, but I will point out that the Festool trammel can't go either as large or as small as ours and has no micro-adjustment. I think our MFRB packs a bunch of functions into a very easy to use package. I will agree that a track follower would be a nice addition.

Another stupid, overpriced product that's unnecessary. It takes too long to setup on your router. The functions are already accomplished with other OEM products like offset base, edge guide, guide stops, etc. Especially if you have a good system like the Festool line he's using there.
