Um.. where in the USA did you ever get a 13mm (.512") lag? I bet 1/2" would have been a perfect fit...Maybe next time just drill out the 2nd and 3rd holes without removing the brackets and making more work for yourself. Keep up the good vids!!!

I think pulling the lag and screwing back reduces the strength, of both the wood fibers and may work-harden the lag. I'd do it in one shot, too. If you're worried about metric lags, just replace them. Lags are cheap.
@petersipp5247
@petersipp5247 3 дня назад
You are correct. The guy doing this vid spoiled the whole thing using the foreign jibberish. 1/2” inch is the socket size.
@annelarrybrunelle3570
@annelarrybrunelle3570 3 дня назад
For those who don't already know, 5/16", 1/2", and 3/4" are each within a few thousandths of, respectively, 8, 13, and 19 mm (7/8" is pretty close to 24 also, IIRC); these sizes are interchangeable for wrenches. Threads won't be, of course - but who ever saw a metric lag screw? Flynndogg probably just gave the mm size in case you only had metric sockets.

I'm not a pipe clamp fan, but this is the coolest thing I've seen in a while. Pricey, but I can see how not only does it save space but it makes clamping easier. $300 for four is steep (no breaks for quantity, either) but I machining isn't cheap. Just think what anodizing them red would cost. Nice

Interesting product. Thorough review. The effectiveness of these pipe clamps appears to depend crucially on one ability to make them co-planer. If they aren’t co-planer, any glue-up will build warp and twist into one’s panel. The level during installation is good. What if the wall is not plumb at all four attachment spots?
@RSTOOLCOMPANY
@RSTOOLCOMPANY 4 дня назад
Great question! If the wall isn't plumb, you can add a ledger board across the span where you want to put these, and then you're able use shims at the stud locations to plumb the ledger board, giving you a good surface to mount your brackets to. This is exactly how mine are set up because my workshop walls aren't very good.
@FlynndoggWoodwork

Great idea. Is there a way to adjust the brackets to ensure that all the bars are "flat" or even with each other when projecting away from the wall (so the glue up is flat)?
@FlynndoggWoodwork
@FlynndoggWoodwork 2 дня назад
Good Question wilfmeier! I don't think you can adjust the brackets themselves, but I have not noticed any problems with getting the wood in the glue-ups flat. The pipe calms inherently have enough flex and movement in them to adjust Thanks so much for watching!

13:02 I noticed in your demonstration that, when you removed your forearm from the lumber, the pipe clamp actually rose up a very small bit, probably less than 1/4 of an inch. I'm curious to know what was actually flexing, was it the pipe, the Clamp Companion, or was it the wall? I don't do any heavy weight glue-ups, but having the ability to fold this down would free up floor space in a small workshop.

@michaelkelley6905
@michaelkelley6905 3 дня назад
I’m curious what the load capacity is. I have a workbench top that is basically 15 pieces of 1.5” X 5.5” and 96” long. It’s 22.5” wide, but weighs around 250 pounds without the legs and stretchers (total weight is 463 pounds). The lag screws may be the weak link in this instance, but the bases also have a limit. Looks great for light panels, but a workbench top would probably be too much for it. Of course, I recognize that almost nobody would attempt to build a workbench top on this, but the load capacity would be nice to know in any case…🤔
@FlynndoggWoodwork
@FlynndoggWoodwork 3 дня назад
This is a great question, and I wish I had the answer. I agree with you. I think the lag screws would be the weak point in the occasion. I think the angles that you lower the pipe clamps down probably really effect how much weight it can handle. I might leave this question to RS tool if they have the answer.

Maybe, we'll get two sets and give up the idea of a new cabinet saw as they are half the price. BTW, wouldn't a made in America product have a 1/2" lag rather than a 13mm? Asking for a friend.
