heaven in short term, absolute hell in the long term but then again this is a car driven on occasions. id drive it at least once a week if i had one though.
I've thought that this supercar is one of the coolest vehicles since I saw it in Need For Speed III: Hot Pursuit. I remember this being my favorite car in that game. Simply timeless design.
-------------------------------------------------The childhood holy trio -------------------------------------------------- Mercedes CLK-GTR - McLaren F1 GTR LongTail - Porsche 911 GT1 Strassenversion Every car enthusiast grown in the 90's will recognize this fact. To us, no P1 or Laferrari inspire the respect we have for these three cars. They are carved in our bones now
i believe that same engine is in the pagani, in my eyes the best v12 ever to be produced on this planet, that sound is unique to the mercedes style v12
+Endo Ll AMG engines. but yea i think the early Pagani Zonda C12 and C12S had this engine or a very similar one to this. then when they brought out the Zonda F Roadster it was the first major redesign since the C12 and then it was fallowed by the several editions that finished with the 760 line up. Fun fact, the Huayra was originally going to have the AMG twin turbo V8 but the shareholders and customers were unhappy with that decision so they went with the twin turbo V12's but worked with AMG to ensure that they had the insane torque from the start not you know like half way in the rev range. so they put smaller turbos than what is in the S65 AMG sedan but it makes more power probably because 1 the S65 is sort of downtuned to ensure it is a reliable 600 odd hp while the Huayra is not really a daily driven car. but then again id have to be hands on with both engines to know for sure.
+mirrorsedgy Yes! its the M120 engine block!!! Same of my car (S600 C140) and of course the first Pagani ever... the Zonda C12 that have the engine without any tuning, just the same 394hp of the best looking and sounding V12 ever!!!
Ah the good ol GT road racers from the 90's, such a shame they changed the rules as it meant some utter nutty road cars. The CLK GTR is one of the best looking ever though, better then the P1 I think, up there with the Maserati MC12 which was another beast I think from this rule?
marksapollo I hear ya. God i love the 90s when it comes to cars. I know there are "better" cars nowadays or whatever, but the 90s, when it comes to cars, the 90s have such a special place in my heart, whether it be from nostalgia of the days when i first starting loving cars, or simply the fact that the 90s was one of the last decades where cars were still made for people who actually liked driving (no more manual transmissions today, for example).

MC12 pushed the GT rules so much LeMans ACO baned it, while FIA saw it as legal.
@@carlosandleon I don't know it looks epic, very low and has presence. I've seen the convertible in real life (1 of 5), it is stunning. It's like the McLaren senna or gumpert apollo though, it was more designed for function/performance rather than beauty.
It's definitely the classiest looking car of its caliber. I have a special respect for high-end brands that integrate looks from their everyday lineup in a full-on race exotic.
they do in the GT series, Porshe, Ferrari, Audi, you could say GM with the Vette aswell but in the world of road cars the Vette is the bargain supercar. like the cheapest stripper, it isnt the best in the buisness but for your dollars youd probably still be happy
My favorite car as a kid! I had this car as my wallpaper for the longest time lol. NFS High Stakes introduced me to it. I still love it and it will always be one of my favorite cars ever made and if I can buy it one day, I sure as heck will!
Yes! the M120 engine block!!! Same of my car (S600 C140) and of course the first Pagani ever... the Zonda C12 that have the engine without any tuning, just the same 394hp of the best looking and sounding V12 ever!!!
Believe me my father's Mercedes has 1 front wipe as the GTR and it cleans bigger area than the 2 front wipes. My Audi has 2 wipes but honestly I prefer Mercedes's 1 wipe. I don't know why they changed it.
vdochev It is one of the biggest brain farts ever come out of Mercedes Benz engineers. It was horribly unreliable. And it didn't clean the most important area... Windshield in front of the driver. Paired 2 wipers leave a little area unwiped in front of passenger, not driver .
Lots of the races these cars competed in have been uploaded to youtube. CLK GTR's on Donington really is a treat to watch. You can also check out BMW LMR's and Porsche GT-1's in ALMS videos of around 1995-1999. RU-vid is awesome. Edit: I don't care if you have to dismount with the help of a excevator: if you arrive at a party like that, in that car, James Bond, Tony Stark and The Fonz might be there, you'll still be by far the coolest person. Edit2: If anyone could tell me the name of the music at 5:10, that would be greatly appreciated.
Greatest supercar to ever be created, it may not be practical at all on the street, but it was always meant to be on the track; it literally started as a racecar turned streetcar. The engine sounds glorious, looks amazing, is reportedly good on the track even in roadcar trim as well. But then again, if you bought one jut to run errands with or to go on long drives then that makes you the fool.
i saw this car on picture on facebook but there was not the full name of the car except for mercedes, than i remembered i was driving this car in NFS hot pursuit 2, googled "nfs hot pursuit 2 car list" and i fount it :D "Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR" :D just damn...
im surprised he did so well in the rain. ive heard others talk about how much of a nightmare that car was to drive in just the lightest of damp conditions.
The most sorted GT1 road car you can get. Lovely. Much rather have that than the newer SLR Mclaren, despite the fact that its faster (for top speed anyway).
I wish they would put it on the current top gear track just to see how it compares to the likes of Bugatti Veyron... what a marvelous piece of engineering.
It's interesting how the market for these "hyper-cars" has changed over the decades. The glorious 90s trio was made in only a few dozen units and if you look now, the AMG ONE alone will be build 275 times.
This is the old Top Gear before they had Richard Hammond and Jason Dawes, and later on James May taking over for Jason Dawes which is the Top Gear we see today.
The side note where Tiff Needell said, "no room for my golf clubs there", in reference to the small storage space in the CLK-GTR, who on earth would buy a supercar for its practicality or for that matter to play golf. A golf player definitely wouldn't turn up to their local club in a supercar, that's for sure 😂
The licence tag is "LB" - this stands for "Ludwigsburg" and is near Stuttgart (where Mercedes comes from). And Ludwigsburg is where my Golf Club is :-)
@ClubsportEvoluzione Depends on which iteration of the Zonda we're talking about, I reckon the road going CLK-GTR would probably destroy every Zonda aside from the newer F and Cinque. A fun fact: the non street-legal Zonda R uses the same engine as the CLK-GTR race car.
@Riles07 The Pagani Zonda R is actually a 6.0 L V12. The other Pagani Zondas are all a 7.3 L V12 except the Pagani Zonda C12 and the C12s, which is has a 6.0 L V12 and a 7.0 L V12 respectively. Whatever it is, the Zonda R sounds awesome!
nissian r390gt1, mercedes benz clk gtr, mclaren f1 gtr, porsche 911 gt1, toyota gt1 , panos esperante gt1 oh the good ol d days of gt1racing now we got diesel shit
Yes I'm sure fifth gear would be broadcast on the bbc (you didn't spot the logo for a whole 6m17s?). The "host" (Tiff Needell btw) was a presenter for top gear long before fifth gear even existed. Also he is actually quite a good presenter and the only part of fifth gear which is worth watching atm.
