11 years has gone by and this is still fun to watch

That one wheeled biplane landing was impressive.

2:35... that was no "oops", that was a complete success! Amazing save!

Three common reasons of these fails. 1. Lack of pilot skills. (stalls in low level flight) 2. Bad weather (strong wind) 3. Poor maintenance (gear retracted during soft landing etc.)

I hope all the little pilots were ok.

Several of the "oops" moments were actually pretty skillful recoveries...

My first trainer was a Goldberg Eagle. It remained one of my favorite airplanes for ten years! It was beat up, but never wrecked. My Kaos .60 was wrecked once, snapping the right wing. Repaired, I stunted it for five years, going through three engines. My stable eventually grew to twenty six aircraft of many different designs. I sold it all when we moved and I retired. Now, all I fly is electrics of various designs I create myself. I really, really enjoyed my RC experience of 27 years so far.

that Hawker Hurricane at the end was fantastic. what a beautiful plane.

Realizing the vast number of hours spent building these models made me cringe with every accident!

The real champion is the camera man he didn't miss a beat....

Also the event at 0:54 isn't an 'oops', just an accurate recreation of the real event. Nice work.

I have a lot of respect for the people who build and fly these beautiful machines. I love watching these types of videos too, but don't understand the fascination with gratuitious replays. We pretty much got it the first time.

some of these that were classified as 'oops' moments would be major sucesses in my book. Im usually just happy when i land. And is the plane at 3:40 scale? if so those engines must be massive....

If you watch enough WW II footage you will see the real airplanes make those exact same landings. Great stuff, nice video.

Wow - and these guys are the "TOP GUNS" of RC.

Lose the replays. If I want to see it again, I know how to use a PC.

the majority of these are gear failures...i dont understand why these expensive rc planes have such cheap landing gears? they all seem to just crumble under a few lbs of weight

Haters gonna hate. Slow motion replays can be extremely useful and entertaining.

I am builder (models and UL), RC pilot, PLG pilot, UL pilot. This video shows absolutely lame pilot skills, every single crash on this video is pilot error. And this put a bad look on RC models generaly. Common people can see nice scale and expensive toys in hands of irresponsible troublemakers with no knowledge of aerodynamics.

if i spent all that money on one of these, i wouldnt even take it outside lol

The slow motion replays where we can see the control responses or lack thereof are even more evidence that some people have no business flying these things

I wish people who invested the time to build these beautiful aircraft would spend an equal amount of time learning how to fly.

What is faster than a Hurricane? A Hurricane's free tyre. LOL I had my my share of Oops moments in my past RC modeler life.

I had an RC plane once... It was the most expensive short lived hobby I have ever had. But boy was if fun!

Some really beautiful planes here. Especially liking the Corsair @ 1:30. How cool would it be to wire up a little ejection seat? Haha it could launch out then a little "PoopaTroopa" style parachute could pop out, saving the day for the little pilots! Such a cool hobby, I hope to get into it some day.

That Spitfire and German WW1 plane did a great landing... and with only one wheel!

@401JamesMr Correct. the rear landing gears on a tricycle gear configured aircraft (boeing 7XX, Airbus's, cessna 172, 182) are the main gears. On a tail dragger, such as the one that you were talking about in this vid, the main gears are located forward of the support tail wheel. When landing a tail dragger, you want to land on the mains first (the one's underneath the wings) not the tail first.

No one ever checks there landing gear when doing maintenance, I learned first hand how important it can be to check your gear after a hard landing. Make sure you check your gear every time you go out just to be sure the will hold up every time.

Ouch! So many landing gear failures... And a few planes simply not generating enough lift. But awesome job still, all the planes look fantastic!

The trick is that the hurricane has a small hump behind the cockpit :P

what do many of these planes have in common? they're tail draggers! lol

I feel so bad for these people but I still found myself laughing at how comical some of the crashes were..

That jet model is awesome.

I so want to see scale fire/rescue responses. Some rigged with foam or dry chem(purple K). Even a snorkel or ladder raised.

a few cases of pilot error, like the tip stall in the beginning, but most of them seemed to be fighting a crosswind when landing. That's a tough situation, and besides that there was a bunch of mechanical failures with retracts. In several cases they looked like pretty decent landings, just on weak gear....

is it funny that the corsair at 1:37, that has happened so many times in real life that its not surprising that it would happen to an RC model.

are the landing gear axles and bolts made out of toothpicks? Ive never owned of flown anything that size, but id think the LG on them would be more robust.

Lesson learned... I'm gonna go check the gear on my planes asap!

Kinda took the words right out of my mouth. It amazes me how so many pilots have big money for scale warbirds and they can't fly 'em worth a crap. A member at my flying club told me if I ever get down to the Joe Nall event to pay particular attention to the warbirds. He said you'll find many great planes that will get destroyed on pilot error landings.

@Gill1am if your talking about the F4F which is referred to as the wildcat, at 1:58, the lock for the right landing gear strut failed....

Some of these are good saves. It take a lot of experience to pull out of crashes. May I suggest a slick track or a few narrow wheels on the tips of the wing and nose but tilted down about 70 degrees? If you can get a hold of carbon fiber coated with platinum(like a tiny amount) will hold up save your wallet thousands in the long run.

Damned impressive cross controls at 2:40. The others were mostly ground loops or gear failures. You should try it in a strong cross wind!

FYI . . . A replay is really not necessary when the viewer has full control of the video.

For those of you who "cant understand" gear failure, tire failure etc. It is commom for rc planes to have such failures. Grass landing in particular are the hardest. On tarmac you can adjust speed up for a hot landing as you have nothing hinding in the grass to the tiny wheels to catch on and flip the plane over. Also, alot of this is stalls and high winds at low speed. It makes controlling the plane difficult and there is little room for error. Also grass is forgiving, tarmac, not at all.

Most of these crashes are prefect scale representations of real life crashes. I feel for the pilots!

Well, first of all, this is an R/C scale competition. It takes months, sometimes years to research, document, and build these models, Then there are the months of practice required to gain proficiency to fly them in a prototypical manner. These are some of the most dedicated modellers in the world. This video does not accurately portray the skill and talent these people possess. Hundreds of flights are logged during this amazing event! This video simply shows some of the unlucky few who were less than successful on a given day. Oh, one more thing, you don't just pay your entry fee and sign up to compete here. You have to be invited! Look for "SKS" and "Propwash" videos to see these guys at there very best! Professional quality videos to be sure... Peace always and happy landings!

@makenzie71 true + when you land at soft surfaces like grass in this video, the ground is too soft and the landing gear may get stuck a bit which may cause to break them.

My R/C wrecks are all over Leicestershire from many years ago, nowadays I fly Flight Sim X on my PC, still lots of crashes but they don't cost me a penny..:)

Thats why you need a really good "Guru"- an instructor who will be patient and keep you out of troulbe with them. If you crash right away, you will give up. Good luck.
