B4 filming top gun the actors had 2 literally take a jet flying course because top gun is an actual school for fighter pilots

I spent 24 years in the US Navy. 6 on "bird farms" (Carriers). I have seen 1000+ launches and landings without a single crash. The competition for a trophy was added to give the that plot point of competition between the characters.

The Air Force, the Navy, and the US Marine corps all have their own air forces. The army doesn't fly (except for a few small exceptions) fixed wing aircraft but do fly helicopters.

The Turbines on the Fighter Jets have a built in shutdown mechanism that prevents any damage from overheating. The air temperature at that height keeps the air intake to the engines turbines at a safe temperature. The "Jetwash" from ICEMAN increased that air temperature by at least 4000 degrees being that close. There is a reason Fighter Jets fly in a coordinated unison so this rarely happens. But the fact that there is a "JETWASH" terminology means it has happened. Could ICEMAN have disengaged in a safer manner in respect to his Wingman ? I had seen it done better. But that was 43 years ago for me.

The hate towards Iceman is honestly unfair when him not trusting mav is completely understandable! Iceman might be cocky and bit of an ass sometimes but overall he's just a guy who is worried for the safety of not only his life but of the team overall! I would not trust Maverick either, not only is mav actually very unsafe in the air after the tragedy he never really got better so ofc Ice is worried!safty

that thing that rises up is to protect the ones on the ground so they don't get badly burned so when the jet engines shoots the flame out the back of the jets.
