I fucking hate job interviews so much. I have to be a fake people-pleasing moron for half an hour to be able to feed myself. I think the concept of interviews failed miserably if people have to research for the question "tell me about yourself" beforehand. Think about that for a second

@@alex-ie8tp I absolutely love your comment (it has many likes but deserves 2 hundred billion likes) and I do hate the concept of 'job interview' with a passion, in principal because they are lie and bullshit based... fake it till you make it. Even the questions themselves are ultra-super dumb - "why do you want to work here?" when the robotic idiot asking this type of question KNOWS that you might have been applying for another 9999 jobs in order to get a damned job so you can feed and house yourself and maybe your family, if you can afford one. If I'd be an employer, I'd probably hire you for daring to think things straight and live in reality but, unfortunately I am a job seeker which fortunately has an ok-ish job and wants to find something a tad bit better... we'll have to learn to fake it till we make it or else, some of us, potentially risk death by starvation and homelessness just because we didn't want to force our brains for a second to think and answer a set of dumb questions as fakely as possible with an as idiotic smile as possible on our faces.

@@alex-ie8tp It is just very easy to put these set of dumb questions in Google and learn that all they want to ask is in fact "what do you sell me?"... or "what do you bring to the table for my company?". The problem here is that they want someone in their 30s but with a hundred years of proven experience and with minimum 100 warrantors who are willing to warrant with their own house that you, the interviewee have transformed every thousand dollars belonging to the company into a million dollars... and all that just for the minimum wage and you are now, again willing and eager to accept the minimum wage once more, just in order to help them turn their tens of thousands into millions 🙂 As in... they ofer £18000/year (UK) but they want you to demonstrate that you have like 5 years of proven industrial experience on top of a 2:1 or 1st degree in Computer Science in order to pay you that shit wage on which if you live alone, you'll strugle to go to the toilet or switch the lights on unless you rent a shared room with other 10 people.

I've applied to many an interview and the ones I got were when I was just "myself!" I give them the good & the bad! If they want me after I'm truthful even with what "I" call the bad, then cool! They got me, along with the good. I'm just plain honest. That way I don't have to remember any lies I made up, lol.

At interviews you need to come prepared, but occasionally you will be expected to think on your feet. Add that specific question about school shootings to your database of questions so next time you can rattle off a good answer quickly!

there are just too many candidates to make this viable, I'm applying for a role and they already made some requirements in the application process (GPA... etc), so that excludes a good chunk of people from applying, then they sent us a fucking online exam, then they picked the best performers and the next thing is a first interview that is more general and has some technical questions, and after that, you get nominated to yet another interview that is focused on technical questions, and finally you get nominated to a group assessment day which has activities and some bullshit, I think HR and talent acquisition departments just don't have anything to do other than wasting their times and our's, this process needs innovation it's pointless and frustrating

I think you have a good point. The problem is in the old days, it was much simpler. Sure, some questions were asked, but they were genuine and simple. "Tell me about yourself" actually means "tell me about your past experience and how it relates to this job." It's a stupid question because ask what you want to know. Don't ask someone to simply "tell them about yourself" because, honestly, that means tell me about your hobbies, etc. We know not to do that, but they need to ask directly. I blame that a thing called Human Resources was invented, which is like what Red says in "The Shawshank Redemption." It's just a stupid question so that young men and women can wear a suit and have a job...and satisfy their own vanity and ambition. "Why do you want this job?" You have to make up some bullshit answer. We know it's because you need the money. I'm fine with if it's something like a doctor, because you might explain why you have dreamed of working at the Johns Hopkins you are interviewing for because it might be something like, "Ever since I was little, I wanted to be a doctor. When I got to high school, I knew I wanted to be a neurologist because I find the human brain so amazing, because it's so complex and we know so little about it. I wanted to work at Johns Hopkins because it is one of the best hospitals for neuroscience in the country. I wanted to be a part of that. I wanted to help people, specifically with epilepsy. That's why I want to be an epitologist and one here." A wage job, the question is stupid. I have an interview at AT&T retail in the morning. I didn't study IT...it's a store where you sell phones and troubleshoot more or less...it's not some dream job like IT or medicine. So, the "why do you want this job" is stupid. Before, the questions were simple and short. I think HR has turned it all into a pedantic clown show for people who are afraid of clowns. Asking what you can bring to the company is a good question. Here's a stupid one: "Tell me a time you had a conflict with someone at work and how you solved it." Not everyone has had a conflict with a co-worker. At most, they had ones they didn't like, but a CONFLICT...I've just always been passive about it, because it's not worth my time. Sure, if it's bullying or something, yes...but if the co-worker is just lazy or rude, I don't do anything. I think most people don't, not because they're cowards, but because petty things aren't worth addressing. I don't know. I've never had any real conflicts with people at work. I guess the best answer is "Honestly, I've never had any." Then, what do they assume that makes you weak? They know no one likes all their co-workers, but what are you supposed to say? You had a smug co-worker...then, what they see it as you being judgmental or something when you tell them? Keep it to strictly business and that's all. "What would make you a good fit for this role?" Good question. "Your resume shows you've worked for eleven years in this field. What have you learned over those years?" Good question. You know it's gotten so crazy that, really, there are some interviewers who will ask, "If you could be an animal, what kind of animal would you be?" What the hell? I've heard one in an article that said the person was asked something like, "How many tennis balls do you think could fit into Manhattan?" That's one of the rarer ones, the stupid animal and tennis ball stuff, but I think it shows how the interview process has been going downhill, I'm guessing starting in the 80s...when Baby Boomers grew up, grew out of their hippy stuff, but thought they needed to be clever and be "Innovative"...their ancestors were simple and had common sense. Innovation is a good thing, except when it's stupid...thinking yourself so clever. Some things were bad in the past...like racism and segregation, etc...but some of the things our ancestors did was very smart, yet we think we're so much more "enlightened". To look at people int he past and past society as absolutely backwards is stupid. We can learn a lot about what people in the past did that was good. But, the Baby Boomers thought they had to be so much more cleverer than their parents who lived through World War II...they think because they solved racism, they're heroes. Then they produced a spoiled generation of Millennials who are so afraid of letting their kids go out an play...think their kid is going to be sodomized or kidnapped to a neurotic extent. Chances are, the teacher or priest is not going to molest them and they won't suffer anything other than a broken arm from a bike wreck. When I was a kid, I rode my bike on the streets of the neighborhood and my mom was fine with it, as long as she knew where I was generally. Now, kids who are ten years old can't ride around the block alone because of their stupid parents who are watching way to much Law and Order: SVU". And today's teenagers are so selfish. I work at McDonald's right now. The high schoolers come in and they leave food on the floor...nuggets, nugget boxes, burger boxes, and all sorts or trash on the floor...food all over the table. Then the little kids come in, and there's hardly a mess...they throw their stuff away and they don't even make a mess eating. This needs to be on Reddit rants, I know, but it's just how I view it when it comes down to factors. It's society's evolution. My dad took his gun to elementary school...shotgun...kids did...there were no mass shootings. Let's face it, liberal or not, something is wrong with SOCIETY because of these mass shootings. People had guns in the past, but you didn't have the mass shootings! Kids didn't use the gun to shoot a kid that bullied them. They just got into fights. Suicide rates are at an all time high among teenagers...homicide rates are higher than ever...I think it's all related. Rant over.

I tried to quit 3 times and each time they would convince me to stay. Glad I left and excited to try something new though!

As an American who’s as fresh as can be to the job hunt, that’s exactly what I was thinking. For me at least, if I was the hiring manager it’d come across that way. I’m contemplating not sending that sort of message just because it feels disingenuous, but if it does truly help I don’t want to fall behind.
