I really appreciate your commentary. Well done. I think I would really like videos of you doing in-depth fight commentary / analysis, where you explain set-up, directions, grips etc. There aren't a lot of channels doing this. Maybe think about that. :-)

Very nice, especially including all the multiple angles. I know very little about this, and this was very instructive. Your commentary was right on for a highlight video, providing insight into the moves while the picture did the explaining.

Speaking as someone with a wrestling, muay thai, and bjj background; a skilled judoka, in good shape, was a nightmare to spar with. One guy put me all over the mat so many times that I'd just shoot for a double/single leg as soon as he got too close. I got tired of getting thrown/swept, almost at will. Much respect to those guys. Real competitors

Yeah at the higher levels judoka can be real problems. Not saying I was high level, but I used to go to a BJJ class and only the two black belts could really stop my top game. Nobody could take me down and they were pretty much forced to play guard. Smash passing into side control and then it was either an armbar or I’d take the back, pick your poison. But as a good student always does, I played guard a lot just to learn new things, going back to judo I became much harder to pin. BJJ is great cross training for judoka

@@JudoHighlights2015 iam curious, does wearing a gi or without gi have notable impact on judoka performance? Without gi, can a judoka throw opponent as good as when theyre wearing one? Iam currently learning muay thai and looking forward in getting a judo class. Sorry for bad english

No 1 it is all about the balance (I used to rely on this when I was practising Judo very long time ago). On these days judo is more about brute force than in the past. I still loved, but I believe was more beautiful in the past. 6 and 4 for me is wow/genius. Sorry for my English (is not my native language).

I went to military school for 4 years from fourth grade through 7th grade. I was always interested in Combat Sports because I wanted to learn how to not get the s*** kicked out of me my whole life. My first year there I joined the wrestling team, and also they had an instructor there who held Judo classes on Saturday afternoons. You had to keep your grades up and your nose clean to be able to go to those classes; it was kind of a reward for good behavior. I really liked the Judo because it fed into my wrestling knowledge and vice versa. I'm 39 now and while I did not continue wrestling or Judo after I left military school I'm really grateful to have that knowledge to be able to handle myself if I get into the occasional scrum.

Super video. It is clear that it took a lot of time and effort to make. Two points I noticed: 1) A lot of left-handed techniques - far more than when I was doing judo 53 years ago. I wonder if this is partly due to the example of the great Yasuhiro Yamashita, and 2) great use of Kuzushi, which was not evident in much of this Olympic judo, which I thought was generally disappointing. Perhaps I missed the best bits.

53 years ago! Those must’ve been some hard trainings. I agree with you about the Olympics. People were too focused on winning and it wasn’t the best judo.

@@JudoHighlights2015 Agree! Probably some Ju Jitsu masters would be able as well, because to my opinion ne vaza requires much more endurance than uke vaza. We had extended fight durations in the past, but a carefull start was tolerated and not punished with shido like today. High level fights were seldom ending with an ippon. Now the judoka is forced to allow the full contact swift and sometimes unprepared in order to avoid a shido which can lead to unforced errors. It is like a time pressure chess game.- even good masters can make a mistake and it is sometimes hard to understand after an ippon was it really a fight between same level judokas, or not, if you don´t know their ranking.

I liked that they were all clear ippons, none were over-scored wazaris. No. 8 wasn't a tae otoshi, the arms were tucked under and although the leg was out, it was still a variant shoulder throw. Great video and makes me miss doing judo.

I (188cm,at that time 80kg) in 2018 had the privilege of a training session in a Tokyo Dojo with that time Judo world champion Ami Kondo (150cm, 48kg).I took her at her Gi and shoulder and pushed her backwards for nearly two minutes hoping to bring her down and apply some kind of osaekomi.Then something occurred beneath me.I didn't regard her legs and was foot swept.I went down on my palms and Kondo all of a sudden stood with her arse precisely over my neck and grapped under my armpit.What followed was a sankaku jime in 100% perfection.I was half turned to the side,my right arm was armbared by Kondo's arms,my left arm was immobilized between Kondo's screwdriver like legs and my head so I even could not tap.The influx of blood and oxygen to my brain was extremely jammed.I fainted and was slapped back to consciousness by the ref and by Kondo who helped me up.

@@JudoHighlights2015 But concerning male,this very day in 2018 ,directly after me they chose a 195cm man out of our group. OK,it was a boy of perhaps 18 who was thin without any strong muscles. They simply took him in for a training session with Ms Kondo. Since he saw what happened to me some minutes ago his tactics were to remain absolutely passive. Since Kondo was to small to take his Judogi correctly she pressed his hips and applied a crushing O Soto Gari that brought him from 195cm to 30cm.For defending himself he offered both his arms for Ude Juji Gatame. Kondo took the right one and he tapped.He tapped much earlier than me.

I love ne waza and #9 was absolutely gorgeous, but my fave has to be #4. It was a counter, but it barely looked it. He seemed like he was almost baiting him. He just moved his foot out of the way and ran him over. So aggressive. So beautiful.

Nice video. But why aren’t 22, 10, and 2 hansoku make? They are throws onto uke’s head, and that shows lack of control and dangerous play. And you are correct on #8.

What I love about the judo is that it is all inclusive. In the mens a point is known as a ipon, and in the womens its known as a tampon.

We used to be able to grab legs with the hands in judo, but it is now forbidden since 2010. I think the judo federation's motivation was to keep the judo more elegant to see, to separate it from wrestling etc. Some people would completely ignore the upper body and just dive for the legs. It is sad because many nice techniques disappeared due to this rule.

great video. BUt I thought chopanov's ashi waza (maybe is was nidan kosoto gari), was by several degrees of magnitude the best throw. Hard to imagine that could be better.

Hi! Great video! 1 thing: nr 8 is for sure a tai-o-toshi. There is no 'carrying' moment which is in a seoi nage. There is only arm action. Seoi means litterarely 'to carry' ... do you agree? Does everybody agrees? Great work thanks!🙏🏽

Number 18 is tani-otoshi, at least for me it is. The guy counters o-goshi and put his left leg behind both legs of the attacker. If Shamilov could counter more face to face and hooked only 1 leg, then it would be more an o-soto-gake.
