It is not the only reason but one of my reasons for giving up on Scrabble is Collins. Only TWL is true Scrabble.

Any chance that O’Connor was unsure about the hooks to EASINESS so wanted to avoid putting a vowel next to that spot on the RUMP/RUMPO turn?

Actually on second thought this doesn’t seem that likely, the M doesn’t do much better than a U does in terms of blocking the tiles that might (but don’t) go there and there’s no way it’s worth losing five points and putting the r in the triple lane
