I was up there the first time in 1969. In July. There were still spots of snow on the ground. The temperature in Palm Springs was 114 and on the mountain it was 75. The place is really worth the effort. The views are worth it alone. And, if you hike, it's great for that as well.

Too bad they didn't make it to the peak. The view is, as John Muir described it, "Sublime."

I would've loved to have seen it. I'm afraid I'm getting a little old and too out-of-shape to make it to the peak, which is a shame because I'd love to see the view from there. But the visitor center at the top of the tram is the next best thing. I took the tram up about 17 years ago and it was spectacular.
