Top Off and Clutch Issues with the YJ Wrangler

Bleeder is on the other side of the bell housing, just a tube sticking out through a grommet and make sure to use a backup wrench when bleeding or you'll twist the tube. Slave cylinder is likely the problem though, not much fun to replace.

I have an 88 too! Mine has the Peugeot BA10/5 Transmission (4.2l engine) with the internal slave. I had the same issue. You can try bleeding it to make sure there is no air in the line. If that doesn't work you have to drop the transmission/skid plate and replace the slave cylinder. Dropped my 3 times due to the slave cylinder crapping out. Make sure you get a quality metal slave cylinder and not the plastic one from the box autoparts stores. I learn the hard way lol. I had 2 plastic ones fail on me. Dropping the transmission is not as bad as it seems.

If your yj has the ax15 transmission when you switch out the slave AND master cylinder go ahead and convert it to external slave cylinder, also if you can install a lift kit and transfer case drop, you can remove the transmission to do the job. It really is easy just get you a harbor freight transmission sissor jack and you can do it in a few ours, i did mine in like 3 hours in my driveway. Ive watched your videos and you seem really intelligent so i don't think you will have any problems. Do the rear main seal and inspect the throw out bearing and clutch and replace if necessary. Hint: get a high quality metal throw out bearing. Look forward to seeing the video of the repair.😊
