In this video I go over my favorite opening moves for Elyrion, Yaddak, Cymanti, and Oumaji!
In chess we have defined opening strategies, so I wanted to make a video about the top moves you can make on turn 0 to start every match on the right foot.
Let me know what you think in the comments! Did I miss anything important? Are there other tribes that you want me to cover? Don't forget to like and subscribe if you found this helpful or entertaining and you want to see more! As a new channel every bit goes a long way.
I'm also collecting viewer-game replays for reviews, so if you'd like me to commentate on your match in a future video then leave a link in the comments! I've got one match in the bank so far.
Check out my channel here for more Polytopia content and social games with my friends: / @drocktalk

For 1:11, if you're playing as Yadakk, I recommend going to the ruin if you see one for your starting warrior instead of the village. This is because as the roads' cost increased, you are now prevented from getting Organization on a turn 2 village capture with your starting warrior given you made a road and a starting warrior on turn 0. Getting the ruin first doesn't increase your tech cost and allows you to get Organization by turn 3 before your first village capture.

That’s a great tip, thanks for the advice. That 1 star delays yaddak by a whole turn, it’s kind of crazy
@willlux7743

Great advice. Personally, I think roads should cost 2 stars, and bridges should cost 5. Because of the current cost of bridges, ports are almost always the better option. (ALMOST) I am not a Yãddak main.

I think a nice point to add with the oumaji opening is that you really want to try to capture your first village on turn 2 if possible. If you don't find it with your first rider, you can attempt to use your second rider to reveal where the village might be so then your first rider can still reach the village and capture it on turn 2. This can be helpful in saving an otherwise shaky spawn. Loved the video. I just subscribed and am looking forward to more content in the future.

Thanks for the extra tip! I appreciate the sub and your time. I really want to upload part 2 to this video this week, but the holidays kinda jammed up my schedule. Plus I tried doing opening moves for Polaris (secret insider info for you), but I needed to try a bunch of things first since there are no new tips or guides to account for the update.

The polypush disrespect :o I'd like to add that depending on the situation you can choose to make a second polytaur or a second warrior. This is mainly the case when you are in a situation where you won't capture your first city on t2 (for example, you pushed in a bad direction, you want to skip the first village with the warrior and use the polytaur to get it, or you went for a ruin at the start). It is a different opening so should probably be mentioned as such, but it can be very potent since you claim a lot of ground very quickly. The reason I wouldn't use that opening if you capture a village on t2 is that it doesn't allow you to get forestry before your first capture, which will put you behind on econ. Personally I prefer to start with fungi and make a warrior on t1 and maybe t2. It gives you your first village a bit later but you get both your level 2 and level 3 upgrades earlier, which also means you can buy techs cheaper for slightly longer Great video though, it will definitely help people pick up new tribes

Thanks for making content post ocean update! Would like to see content based on 10+ opponents for those of us chasing higher scores/three stars. Great channel btw!
@DrockTalk
@DrockTalk 7 месяцев назад
Thanks for the feedback! I’d consider a 10+ opponent three star tutorial. Tbh I only play domination so if I made a high score video I’d have to figure it out myself first lol. It’s not out of the question though; I appreciate the topic suggestion!
@JesseDishner
@JesseDishner 7 месяцев назад
@DrockTalk I got 3 stars on every tribe in perfection, so now I'm moving on to trying in domination, but its just too hard the way the game is set up. Playing without going for three stars would probably be a lot more fun but I keep trying for them. Keep up the good content!
@DrockTalk
@DrockTalk 7 месяцев назад
I feel like when I TRY to get 3 stars I get like 94% over and over again lol. Then when I’m not trying I do it by accident. I 3 starred all of the tribes before the diplomacy update, but I haven’t thought about it much since then. Maybe I’ll make a bot match tutorial for domination scores 🤔
@JesseDishner
@JesseDishner 7 месяцев назад
@DrockTalk I stopped playing for a while, since before diplomacy I believe, then came back after the naval update. I had only 3 starred using vengir but now I'm only getting 72-74%. If I leave difficulty at normal that's only 40% so I have to increase it to hard or crazy, and I'm also getting penalized for not taking out enough of the enemy tribes. Perhaps I am adding too many opponents unnecessarily.
@JesseDishner
@JesseDishner 7 месяцев назад
@DrockTalk figured out the formula: 4 opponents on crazy. If you're the one who kills the other tribes and don't lose TOO many units you're all set.
@patrickoconnell9387
@patrickoconnell9387 7 месяцев назад
The Cymanti opening I do is similar to yours, but I start with the fungus on turn 0, and then do boosted warrior turn 1 and boosted warrior turn 2. I guess the trade off is my opening gives you 2 extra stars from leveling your cap a turn early, but your opening gets your 2nd and 3rd cities a turn earlier. I'll have to play around with both and see which one I like more
@DrockTalk
@DrockTalk 7 месяцев назад
Thanks for explaining an alternate option! I used to do it how you described, but since I started reviewing my matches for the channel (especially the losses) I’ve trended towards using alot of basic units in the early game. I used to go heavy into economy and make an army later, but I noticed that extra units help you expand faster and contest neutral points of interest.

Hello drock, I am really impressed by the quality and strategic knowledge of this video. It seemed very well put together for a small creator. Are you aware of the triple warrior strategy for the imperius tribe?

Sure. This opening is very strong on drylands Pangea, and lakes. You upgrade your cap on turn 0 then train warriors on turns 1 and 2. Since you can use imps special resource gen to almost always find a village you can then on turn three buy riding then capture and upgrade your new city. When this works which is like 80 percent of the time you get riding early on and expansion in many different directions. It is one of the most effective openings in my opinion. Are you aware of how imperius resource gen works?@@DrockTalk

It would be great if vassalization comes
@DrockTalk
@DrockTalk 7 месяцев назад
That’s an interesting concept. I think taking a city is like the ultimate vassalization. Lore wise, you can’t be in every city, but you take 100% of their resources and turn their population into your armies.
@Superficial_Intelligence
@Superficial_Intelligence 7 месяцев назад
Why need vassalization if you can just conquer them?
@DrockTalk
@DrockTalk 7 месяцев назад
I agree. I was thinking that conquering a city is like the most ideal vassal situation possible for the conquerer already. Just to play devil’s advocate, maybe if you were in a slow stalemate over a city you could agree to take some of the stars per turn or something and make it a vassal city. Instead of fighting over it. Idk if that would be a great mechanic but it would be interesting.

Why don't you just get fungi on turn zero and move shaman next to city, then, next turn you train a warrior and boost it, and on another turn, again, train and boost a warrior
@DrockTalk
@DrockTalk 3 месяца назад
I like to get the warriors trained and on the move as quickly as possible so my shaman doesn’t have to move through the clouds as much. If you lead with the shaman you could easily walk into an ambush and lose one of your best assets early on.
