The September garden is a mix of color and crunch. Crunch because by now, some of the plants are looking pretty crispy with their best days behind them. Then there are those whose true value comes to light in the late season garden. Let me show you some winners in my late September garden.
Hi there! My name is Heather and I garden in zone 5B, recently changed to 6a, in the southwest suburbs of Chicago on a small residential lot. My garden lives a whole lot larger than it is and I love sharing tips and tricks, as well as plenty of mistakes, with others who love to play in the dirt.
If you liked this video, please give it a thumbs up and if you'd like to see more garden content from a DIY gardener, click the bell to subscribe. That way, you'll never miss a post.
As always, thanks for your support and I'll see you in the garden!

New sub here. I love how your gardens ribbon through your yard. Very artsy! And I really like that you show the triumphs and occasional fails in your landscape, which is how we grow and mature into seasoned gardeners. 🌱🥀🌷One suggestion...I appreciate that you insert plant names when editing the videos, but adding 2-3 seconds would be very helpful for viewers to read them and perhaps take an inspirational screenshot for our own gardens. Thanks for the tour!

I can't believe that banana, it's awesome! I remember you protecting a bit during the winter but I can't believe it's that hardy. Really cool!

I don’t think last winter was a good test though. It’s protected south-facing location no doubt helps. It’s massive!

The garden still looks beautiful! This is a difficult time of the season for our gardens to look the best but yours looks great😍 Your neighborhood looks so similar to the neighborhood we lived in when we lived in Plainfield ten years ago! I wonder if they were built by the same builder!
@heatherhereshegrows
@heatherhereshegrows 13 дней назад
Plainfield is a stones throw away. I’m in Lockport and the house was built by Ryland 20 years ago.

My old house was built by them too! Only our old neighborhood was built in the mid to late 90s😀

Your gardens are gorgeous and full of inspiration! I live on a similar suburban lot so it’s so nice to see just how much is possible in a typical suburban neighborhood! I bought an American gold rush a couple of weeks ago and can’t wait to see how it does! The raspberry ripple zinnias are a favorite of mine😊. Thanks for a great video!

I think you’re going to love American Goldrush. It’s a workhorse and great for late season color. I wish I had remembered to space the zinnias so they be taller. There’s always next year! Thanks for watching!

My Autumn Brilliance serviceberry is almost in the same spot in my backyard and looking the same after 4 years. Maybe I’ll evict mine too. Fellow Chicagoan here too (NW suburbs).

Beautiful garden. I’m curious - When you’re standing in your driveway facing your house, what is the width of the area between your driveway and the neighbor’s yard to the left? I have a similar spot and I’m considering planting it up and interested in how the size compares. Thanks for reading! 💚

I had to laugh when you were showing your zinnias that didn't grow tall enough. I seeded some zinnias that were supposed to be minis, 10-12 inches tall. So I put them at the front. They ended up 5 feet tall and obscured everything behind them. Next year, I'll plant something different.
