2 things: Harold was thinking of Jacob Berry, LSUs top pick last year, who transferred from Arizona. Also college class is much better because of the 2020 5 round draft caused a lot of would be prep signings to go to college.
I wish teams would sign college players in the first round more so we, the fans, can see them sooner. I just feel like teams draft these HS kids so early and in five or six years you never hear from them again.
@@jpbazzano3636 Yes but again, you sign a kid who will be lost in the minors in A or AA for so long, they usually never get a chance to play. Sign a college guy, they play one year in A, more to AA, and many get to AAA quickly since they have the skill set. I'm only speaking for 1st round, maybe 2nd round guys. They should be in AAA within 3 years if not, what's the point right?
@@kalebstuckey570 I'm sorry I hurt your feelings wishing teams didn't waste HS talent like they don't do in other sports. There's a reason for it. Baseball is still far behind and should require these kids to play in college.
It doesn't work often, but baseball has a history, like basketball did, of guys coming straight from high school and excelling. The difference can be huge. Look at Soto. He debuted at what? 19 or 20? While Aaron Judge was drafted out of college and debuted at 25. The player has their earning potential and legacy building limited and the team loses a potential 5 years. And if a guy takes more than. 3 years, so what? High school or college, there are tons who don't make it. That's ok, there are 25 active roster spots for each MLB team and each team has roughly 120 or so players in the minor leagues. So of course the majority won't make it.
Trying to remember who he got traded to from the Yankees. Was he in the trade for Clemens before the 99 season or in the David Justice trade during the 99 season? I remember Bush was in one of those trade packages and the other had, I believe, Ricky Ledee. Homer Sr was great as a pinch runner. Guy scored some big runs for the Yankees when he was there.
Your acting like they are gonna go straight to the league after the draft smh. They got to get through double a and triple a which could take a long time
Prediction: Braves still find elite prospects at the end of the draft and develop them into All-Stars OR... flip those pieces for YOUR team's All-Star.
@@mitchconner2021 I think it's that plus a culture within the system. They draft remarkably well but also know how to develop what they draft better than most. Consequently they know how to market strengths to scouting reporting media and conceal weaknesses. And flip that to hide diamonds in the rough. Raw talent through a culture of refined prospect development/flipping is their secret ingredient imo.
@@mitchconner2021 Then your cousin probably has a. Raw talent that the Braves find unique b. He has a better opportunity than most to actually develop into a MLB player, which is awesome! Who's your cousin so I can start rooting harder for him?
It is the penalty that fans largely seemed to be unaware of. I see Yankee fans constantly calling Steinbrenner cheap because he doesn't want to keep going past thresholds year after year, when in reality, it is all about the draft picks and potentially having MLB ban you from signing anyone from the IFA prospect market for a season. Losing draft picks and the ability to sign any IFA prospects, even for one season, can set an organization back half a decade.
Good. Tired of teams who don't try getting rewarded with talented young kids. Good for baseball, good for the kid that would have been stuck with Oakland until he was close to being paid, at which point they trade him for another group of poor kids who repeat the process. The Athletics should either be folded as a franchise or the owner should be forced to sell.
