Lift or raise it, lower or raise the air. That’s about it, I still use the tunes 9001 skimmer from my nano on a 40 breeder with a 10g sump. I like small skimmers that I remove the cup and clean repeatedly and often. Work horses for sure, wouldn’t pull much out of my 20g for that reason. Idk why it’s rated for such small tanks, should be rated for bigger IMO. Says heavy bio load 17g water volume, which I doubt that’s true tbh
@@John_Benson yeah, it took a while to get my tunze 9001 dialed in and set up properly. Took about 2 months of just little tweaks and watching/waiting. Got an ato and that helped with 90% of the problem once it was through the break in period after physical manual cleanings.
Really interesting. My skimmer is actually making something like boiling water without any stink. In my case i think it is a pump problem because it sometimes make a sort of vibrating noise, and since it do that, the bubble produced are not the same. Did you already see something like that
I got the Bubble Magus Curve 9+ and that bad boy stinks to high heaven! 😂 I always hate maintenance time when I clean the collection cup and lid really good. Whole house gotta be aired out. My sump stand has holes in the back of it for cords, and last summer between the heat/humidity I had to actually cover the lid holes with plastic cling wrap to prevent the wafting through the house lmao 😂 Love/Hate relationship with it.
My skimmer is at max air speed, and the bubbles break where the cup connects to the base, but the foam head only coats the inside of the cup's neck and not getting over into the cup itself. do I need to adjust the skimmer to be high so it gets over the top? I have a Reef Octopus Reagal 250INT and use mesh socks
When you tested the air flow at different depths in other video the results were different than what you suggest here, deeper water level equals less air flow, shallower resulted in more air flow, you got it wrong here suggesting to reduce the water height to reduce air flow, head pressure is not as relevant as you think
Hello, could you please guide me, why sometimes the skimmer becomes like fresh water and makes big bubbles. And then again fix is that any problem in water?!
My skimmer was working awesome just had to clean it out and the smell is rancid one day it over flowed witch never happens it’s been like a month since I deep cleaned whole skimmer after cleaning everything went back to normal
Can you do one of these for HOB Aquamaxxx skimmers. Mind blows huge bubbles makes gross water in the cup, but never foams. Sometimes fills up super fast.
Ok, I’d say that if you take the lid off your skimmer and my wife doesn’t complain I would immediately test her for Covid 😂. On the DC skimmer along for the journey, I do not believe it would work, because of the diameter of the neck. In fact, I believe you guys addressed this already in a previous video. Cheera
What about when the skimmer keeps collecting clean-looking water? It doesn't stink, very clear. Even at the leanest setting, my skimmer still bubbles over with clearer water. My tank recently went thru a mini cycle due to adding cured dry rock, but the skimmer continues to bubble almost half of 50 gallons. I cant just keep replacing the RODI water. The last thing I can think of is wait a lil longer for the cycle to finish...
Lucky me , both my experience of using Deltec APF-600 and Bubble King Supermarin 250 for my 120 gallon 4x2x2ft tank , the smell from 1 full skimmate always drives my sibling coughing mad ! Emptying it makes me on the verge of throwing up , smell of baby faeces . The things we endure for this hobby !
High guys …I am new here and just subbed. Can you direct me to a video that covers all the basics of the first time start of what I’ll need. I mean everything from ( I am thinking a 20 tank and all the equipment) , I mean All that I’ll need. I am confused for example , is this device you are highlighting in this video needed. I appreciate any help ….cheers

Can you do video on tuning a Octo Reef HOB 1000 Protein Skimmer. I have one just got it hooked up and seems like it’s not foaming I have a silencer on it. Came with a air valve but the guy did not hook it up. BTW it’s the newer version with the white input & output heads. Thank you
Most of us around here will skip the skimmer on a tank that small as water changes are really quick and easy to perform given the small volume. That said, there are a few nano skimmer options like the Bubble Magus QQ1 and Eshopps in-sump nano skimmer
seems like either no one runs external skimmers anymore or the people who do are seasoned enough to know how to fix their issues. Either way there seems to be little to no content about tuning an external skimmer. I'd love to see BRS mention external skimmers in videos like this one
For some reason, recirculating skimmers still haven't caught on. At least, not as much as traditional one pump skimmers have. Recirculating skimmers are awesome because, as you already know, the ability to adjust the feed pump independently of the bubble producing re circulation pump is just one more layer of fine tune control 🙂
@@BRStv yes! But with all that adjustment I feel like I might be missing something. For example I used run high flow through it and it worked alright but I now run medium-to-low flow(which is probably closer to what Reef Octopus recommends) and it works so much better. It seems to pull more organics in my low nutrient system than my insump skimmer does in its high nutrient system
I've got an Octo 110S and I think it's set up okay. However, my foam isn't particularly constant, it seems to rise and fall depending on what it's collecting. I do see reasonably darker skimmate in the collectors cup and it stinks when it does collect. Is it odd that it should rise and fall like this though? I find it I try and keep the head up top it'll overflow quickly all of a sudden over night etc.
Same thing was happening with my 110 sss. I had a light bioload for that skimmer and my water was really clean, not very many nutrients in the system... since then I've removed the filter socks. I just use very coarse grade filter mesh that let's all the food particles through. The skimmer works much better, more consistent, darker skimmate. I also feed a little more than I used to. The skimmer likes it!
It sounds like your skimmer may be oversized for the tank/bioload. When you get inconsistant skimmate production, that's usually the case. Like the other commenter mentioned, removing your filter socks (or other mechanical filtration) may actually help the skimmer perform more consistently.
“ This video is the solution” *TO YOUR TANKS POLLUTION*!!! Come on, guys. I can’t believe you let an opportunity like that slip right through your fins 🐋 … 🥺😞😭
If you can raise it up even further, try that next. This is one of the easiest ways to get the skimmer from overflowing. Also, make sure that you haven't dosed any chemicals or medications to the tank recently as many of them can cause your skimmer to go a little nuts for a while.
A protein skimmer is a piece of equipment that we use for saltwater aquarium filtration. This video is a great explanation of what a protein skimmer actually does and how it works 🙂 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nxIHutSG1Vc.html
