You guys have opened my eyes on skimmers for the last few hours watching these vids. I have a deltec sc 1455 and i think i have been running it too wet.

I just broke my Deltec 1455 & replaced it with a Nyos Quantum 160.... What a pain in the arse this skimmer is, could go on a mega rant but a mini will do.... I wish I had another deltec, they are so simple to pull apart. the Nyos is a mega pain to pull apart & put back together. Deltec has 1 plastic screw, the Nyos has like 9 metal screws & some are flat head & some are Phillips head 😑. The deltec was like 5 years old & works the same as the new fancy annoying Nyos.

Hi Ryan, I run a Bubble Magus QQ1 HOB skimmer and it is exactly what you've said about controlling where the foam line is by adjusting up and down the collection cup. It is quite difficult to dial the perfect spot as the bio load varies time to time. Great video and info, as always. Thanks BRSTV!

Still using my bubble magus Q3 HOB on my 30l nano and doing a great job softy dominate tank and no water changes just dosing and do all required maintenance and all fine.

Still using my Vertex Omega 150 skimmer, the thing is bulletproof and works like a charm.

I broke my old Deltec 1455 (1000l) & replaced it with a Quantum Nyos 160 (1000l). I'd recommend the old Deltec over the Nyos. It has a bigger skim cup & it's a way simpler design. This which means it's way easier & quicker to clean which became very apparent the 1st time I had to clean the fiddly Nyos.

I would definitely like to see more and better options for AIO. The ghost skimmer for my Nuvo 40 had to be adjusted sometimes four time a day.

Coralife makes a hob filter with built in skimmer at less than $40 that works really well. Outside the tank. Not in the tank at all except for inflow strainer. Buy two. Swap them out when get dirty and stop working. Always keep a clean one handy.

The best protein skimmers are Royal Exclusive (made in Germany), ATB (made in EU), Nyos (China), Ultra Reef (made in Itally), ATI (China). Honorable mentions are Cove(German made pumps), the new Red Sea skimmers(Itally made pumps) and some Reef Octopus models.

I wish you guys would start carrying Bubble Magus. I dumped my Nyos 120 for a Bubble Magus Elite curve 7 and it has performed way better than the Nyos ever did and at a much cheaper price. The elite models use the good sicce pumps. They are super easy to dial in. The Nyos I had was a nightmare to dial in no matter what water level and it was also a micro bubble factory.

I have the HOB Reef Oct Classic 1000. Kinda disappointed to see you only talk about 1 hang on back. The BH1000 is a great skimmer that deserves to be considered. And its all outside the tank other than the inflow and outflow pipes.

What can fit in the back of a Red Sea Max 250? Wish the skimmer people would make it easy to find dimensions on their skimmers. Width, length, height, height where the skimmer cup begins and total height. Would like to replace the old stock rectangular Red Sea Max 250 skimmer. Can’t figure out what to use, what good quality and not excessive cost.

I met an anti somatic guy, he made a lot of good points. If you had 4 protein filters running 24 hours a day filtering 6 million ppm, how many years would it take to filter out the 6 million. I never thought of it that way but it makes sense, the math just doesnt add up.

Dc pumps use too much electricity check the power consumption of the driver pack in ac input I have just ripped my dc pump out and converted back to sp4000 bubble mag 28watts ac instead of 400watts ac for driver supply

Should note: Do NOT buy the Somatic skimmer reviewed here, the manufacturer Vertex Technologies went out of business at the end of 2019 hence why they are on liquidation. My Somatic S60 impeller failed after 8 months (worked great until then) however there are no spare parts available anywhere to fix a Somatic Vertex skimmer. Recommend sticking to the tried and trusted manufactures like Reef Octopus, Red Sea, etc.

I don't belong here. To me, if keeping corals requires this type of mega-expensive, high-end equipment then I'm out. I'll go with water changes and an ultra light bio load. A couple damsels, a goby or blennie.. a few creepy crawlies for the bottom.. and that's it. Probably give away my sump since it wouldn't be needed much. I'll let a Penguin 350 HOB filter handle the gross removal of particulates. And my system will look stunning to all who visit my home

N8NK QRP how is your tank doing? Your tank size and equipments you used beside mentioned above? Any other suppliment or additive added? As I want to start saltwater tank but these high price equipments just don’t do it for me. Thank
