Metal Head Mario Can Move! made the top 10? All 5 on your honorable mentions list are worlds harder than that star.. It's completely doable without jumping down the hill. Just run the path, you'll have plenty of time. Also, the penguin race is harder than the Tall Tall Mountain slide if you ask me. The slide itself isn't bad, but that penguin is real friendly with the devil himself.
thetealeo I believe he meant red coin stars within the main levels, but Number 1 is a castle star. And besides, that level deserves to be on any list for the hardest levels, because it is indeed very challenging.
MUNDOM316 I think both are challenging in their own right. That one is really hard for me, because I suck at the Wing Cap controls, but most people seem to have an easier time than us.

+Spritzer Hayden I did it, but it took a lot of tries. I had ALL possible coins, that were a total of 98 (including all 8 red coins again), right before the very last floor. You needed to make it to the last floor and you couldn't afford falling from the two rotating platforms, which needed some tight low-jumps without building much momentum. Still can't believe the game had you missing only 2 coins up to that point.
Since you did a coin star as number 1 THE hardest star without a doubt is the 100 coin star on Rainbow Ride if you screw up the blue coin switch you're SOL

***** First off, Hoot the Owl is only in Tall, Tall Mountain in the DS version. Not to mention that that shortcut wasn't intentional. Oh, and you have to grab the monkey on top of the mountain and select "Let Him Go".
Regardless of the fact that I've played through this game so many times that every star is a piece of cake, I clicked on it anyway bc I just love this game so much. You're list is accurate for people who haven't played though the game 250+ times, good job.
my only issue with this list is in the next 5, shoot into the wild blue is maybe the easiest star in the whole game (besides toads) with a side flip wall jump
The hardest world imo was tall tall mountain next would be little/big world(forgot the name) and third would be tick tock clock. Some of the stars for these were just unmerciful
With number 2 and 3, you're making it harder than it actually is. When you go to the cruiser, you don't have to run over the platform. You can simply just jump over the expansions. Also when getting to the big house, you don't have to jump on the falling platforms. If you time it right, you can use a backjump to get on the glassblock.
SM64 is the first game you ever played? How old are you? Also, how did that wall jump in Big Boo's Haunt not make the list? That was *by far* the hardest thing to pull off in the game.
Super Mario 64 is a relatively easy game to begin with. In the retrospect of the game, these are (again in my opinion) the hardest stars. If you think they're easy, then the rest of the game is probably also easy. But again, if you got different opinions id love to hear em. Make a video or post em here
TheUofCWildcat I don't feel jolly roger bay has any hard stars, and there are certainly worse stars in tick tock clock. and metal head Mario can move is easy as crap. while I do agree that the rainbow ride stars are hard, and that the wing cap red coins are stupid, the beginning of the list was really underwhelming. im surprised nothing from tiny huge island made it on this list.
I feel accomplished that 4 through 10 and the next 5 I completed in my initial 70 stars to beat the final bowser. I think one of the hardest for me was Eye to Eye in the Secret Room because of the damned wall jump that has to be pretty much done on the first try because of the damned invisi cap timer. It just got super frustrating despite not dying
Fun fact: you don't need the metal cap to get the "metal Mario can move" star. You can double jump and then stomp on that switch. The water is shallow enough
#2, seriously? Blast to the Lonely Mushroom for Stage 12 is waaaay more frustrating. Unlike Somewhere Over the Rainbow, BttLM has NOTHING to grab on and it's pratically impossible to actually land on the mushroom itself without slipping off. Basically you are forced to aim for the star itself.
sure, but in stage 12 the pink bomb-omb is much easier to get to. And its near the cannon, unlike in rainbow ride which is all the was across the level.
For shoot into the wild blue just triple jump and then wall kick, no cannon required, makes your like *a lot* easier. But with the cannon ye it's actually pretty hard unless you retry the star a lot after you collected it to get better at the positioning.
10. Oh gosh yeah that part is soooo frustrating!!!! 9. I use to have the chests memorized but recently when I played it again, I almost did die and it was hard to remember which order you open the chests. 8. Give me this one over the stupid Pinguin slide anyday. Yeah this one is hard, but at least it's fun and it's not a bloody race! 7. I actually found this one to easier because of the extra coins and I am very good at controlling Mario so that whirlpool didn't bother me that much. 6. I can see why this would hard for you, but for me it's a piece of cake because I am very patient and have great timing skills. 5. Definitely hard, but it's still alot of fun, but yes patience is key. 4. Oh gosh yes, this one is a NAIL BITER! One of the reasons why this level in general is a pain in the neck! 3. Seeing how this is the last level, I expected a challenge, well, needless to say I've yet to get these stars. So yeah, HARD!!! 2. I haven't even attempted this sucker, yeah that throw guy would send chills! 1. I have the players guide, and it even said this was the hardest star to get. Yeah I was too scarred to try it myself lol.
Total respect for your list and video. However, for me: 1. 100 coins Rainbow Ride 2. Wing Mario over the Rainbow 3. 100 coins Tick Tock Clock 4. Princess Peach slide (under 21 seconds) 5. 100 coins Shifting Sand Land
I only agreed with a few of these, mostly the ones near the top of the list. Here's my personal top 10, with no 100 coin stars, Bowser levels, or red coin stars included: 10. Mystery of the Monkey Cage. How many of us were tricked with that first monkey by the flying Shy Guy when we were younger? Actually climbing the mountain isn't so bad, but those two monkeys can burn. 9. Into the Igloo. The igloo portion itself is quite easy. Getting there without inadvertently missing and sliding down into the ice water is another matter. 8. Tricky Triangles! The switch doesn't give you much time to get to the star, but once you teach yourself to sneak in-between a couple of the triangles and master Mario's side-jump, it's not too bad. 7. Stomp on the Thwomp. The camera is the main enemy of this level as opposed to the platforming. That, and I find myself running into more invisible walls than I think I should be. 6. Navigating the Toxic Maze. The in-maze map that they provide really doesn't help, and since so much of the maze looks the same (at least as far as the walls are concerned), it's a little easy to go around in circles. 5. A-Maze-ing Emergency Exit. Same reason as #7, only for some reason it takes me longer to find the necessary door for this star. 4. Chests in the Current. As explained in the original video, the placement of the final chest makes this star far more difficult than one would assume. 3. Breathtaking View from the Bridge. Climbing the mountain is time-consuming, but managing to align your jumps properly at the end tends to trip me up more than I think it should. 2. Cruiser Crossing the Rainbow. IMHO, much harder than The Big House in the Sky. The level of platforming needed to get to the ship is more difficult. Even if the carpet disappears in the house, you can use the warp just outside of the house's interior in order to get back to the top of the red coin maze. 1. Somewhere Over the Rainbow. When I was younger, it took me forever to figure out that the pink Bomb-omb atop the maze was how you accessed the cannon. Throw into the mix the fact that you have to get to the ship in order to blast to the pole on the island, and you have not only my least favorite star, but also one of the more time-consuming ones.
ttmylink I have been practicing that level recently. I wait and get all the red coins last since it takes so much time for me. If I go after all the others first, risking falling to my death out of the way before getting them seems like the right thing to do.

Just going to ask about it, Blast To The Lonely Mushroom, the last star in Tall Tall Mountain. If you're not good with cannons, this star is very much rage inducing, but if you are good with cannons, not so much.
just saying, I do not thing mysterious mountain slide should be in the list..... Nintendo didn't intend this, but you can break the game and get the star without even going in the slide, just go to behind you from start, take the wind up, face towards the edge, you can see the star, jump down and kick, and bam star
#9 is so hard that Nintendo decided to make it easier in the DS remake, by only making the eel come out quickly and having only one chest to open, the "guess the correct chests" exists but in the 3rd mission.
there are 2 impossible coins in thi, one literally spawns on the death barrier for one frame and deactivates. from that stage alone you havent got all coins

I started playing a few days ago and now have 110 stars. I haven't done anything for Rainbow Ride yet, but I've done everything else up to that point, and personally, I agree with most of these, especially Stomp on the Whomp, but I think that you should have included something from Wet-Dry World, as there were a few hard ones there. Also, how do you do some of these without even dying once? I find that most of these stars I ended up dying multiple times on!
When you get to the ship in the Jolly Rogers level, there's an air pocket if you swim to the top of the ship near where the star is, so if your health gets low you can replenish by swimming up there.
Jolly Roger Bay Level: there is a star where you MUST cannon blast yourself onto the smallest platform. Took me literally 100+ tries. It better be #1. You know the star I'm talking about!
For star #1, I used to call Mario "Captain Mario" and thought of it as an airborn mission XD (childhood things) This is the best joysource I had in my childhood :3
I found Tower of the Wing Cap harder than WMotR. In WMotR, you have as many Wing Caps as you want. You have cannons and lots of platforms to land on. In TotWC, you only have one try before you need to restart the level. You barely have enough time, and only one Wing Cap. No platforms besides the one with the switch, and no cannons. The Red Coins are placed in pairs, but that just increases the chance of getting one and missing one. This level forces you to go very low and very high. It's easily one of the hardest.
The rainbow ride stars are difficult because of falling. The truely miserable stars are ones you just dont know how to get if youve never played before, like secrets in the shallows and skies. That star is ridiculous if youve never saw the secret locations before
the hard one has to be "blast to the lonely mushroom" from tall tall mountain as that one is considered the tricky one. If you miss with a bad cannon angle, You'll blast off to your death. But for skilled Players, it does make it easier just for a shortcut long jump on higher mountains, but if you fall to the mushroom without touching the star, you'll take fall damage.
In "plunder in the sunken ship," there's literally a little breathing spot inside the ship that's not far at all from the chests. That itself makes the star quite easy.
