Fun fact about the whole ordeal with Microsoft buying Rare from Nintendo at 2002, the higher ups at Microsoft thought that because of the acquistion of the company, they thought they own the Donkey Kong series. And this is what started the whole mismanagement of Rare after Microsoft bought the company. At least they're kind of them to bring Banjo-Kazooie in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Microsoft have been pretty friendly with Nintendo overall lately. Putting Cup-head on the switch, adding Banjo-Kazooie on smash. I won't be surprised if their endgame is to get a license to make a new Donkey Kong country game.
How stupid. Do they honestly think Nintendo would ever give the rights to an IP away to another company? I think the learned their lessons with the CDi debacle
Wait, wait, wait. Microsoft, creator of Windows, almost the *definition* of PC, only release the first main game of their flagship series to PC? And it's taken them *twelve years* to rectify that situation? *WHAT?*
A thing you forgot to mention about killing Rare: the reason they bought Rare was because they thought they would get the rights to Donkey Kong And when they realized that wasn't the case, they were stuck with a company that they literally did not know what to do with
@@supergenesisstation1991 The good news is that Sea of Thieves got updates, Perfect Dark is getting a reboot, and Everwild is going to be directed Gregg Mayles of Banjo Kazooie fame. The bad news is that Battletoads is mediocre.
Probably because that's the appropriate facial expression to make if you work with video games and see an incompetent corporation try to create hard/soft ware intended to be for video games but they can't even function without being a risk to users.
9:43 I always appreciate sledge. He has both serious but funny tone with him. Because let's face it. "It's a bomb!" Will always be remembered as a quote
I think a Nintendo Fails countdown should be next. Even though I love them and they’re essentially the Disney of video games, it’s important to remember that nobody is perfect, and even Nintendo has had its fair share of hiccups.
If there's a Nintendo fails Top 10, I'm predicting the Mother 3 screwjob. I hope if there's mention of that, there's mention/reference also of Chuggaaconroy. Maybe even a collab.
I wouldn't even really put Mother 3 on a list of Nintendo fails. That game came out at the tail end of the GBAs life cycle and the DS had been a mega-hit for two years by that point, not to mention there was a new Pokemon game coming out in that time on DS. The biggest hurdles Mother 3 currently has to getting an American rerelease is a) Shigesato Itoi being done with the series and has expressed no interest in remaking the game or including it in some kind of trilogy collection; b) The lack of GBA games on the Switch Online service and no Virtual Console in sight.
There's a lot of even more infamous Nintendo fails. Strangely, most of them have to do with consoles. Nintendo rarely makes really bad games, they just don't seem to always come up with the best ways to sell them.
@@Josh_the_jester Miyamoto doesn't have a clean state. When making Mario Galaxy 2, Miyamoto was so mad about Yoshiaki Koizumi giving Galaxy 1 a story that they had a long vicious argument.
@@Arthas771 honestly speaking I actually Like Nuts and Bolts. A lot actually. Sure it isn't a banjo game, but its still a really fun game. If banjo and Kazooie were simply removed from the game, people would love it.
here's hoping that this is a sign that nintendo has bought the IP from microsoft for more than just smash, can you imagine a new BK game on the switch? ME WANT!
If I'm being honest I think of Sackboy when I think Sony Mascot also he used Snake as an example despite being owned by Satan himself so I also think of Crash even though he is owned by Activision
What i hope that Banjo's Smash Ultimate reveal at Nintendo's E3 conference shows Microsoft is that people want the Banjo-Kazooie franchise to make a comeback. Hopefully with the new partnership that they formed they can make the sequel the fans want and maybe put on both Nintendo Switch and Xbox for both fans to enjoy.
EA: Greed and Evil Konami: Evil Sony: Arrogance Capcom: Underwhelming Microsoft: Never wins Ubisoft: Sneaky Bethesda: It Just Works Square Enix: Bounces Back SEGA: Clawing Back Up Activision: Greed and Oversaturation Blizzard: Fell from Grace Valve: Neglectful Nintendo: Losing Their Way
Frankly you know a company is doing better when the general one word sum up is "never wins". Not to say it's a good thing, but truth be told, unless a new console comes out, Xbox will still live on and strong
10: Wow, this was just such a silly idea. 9: Xbox controllers, started as shit and became an awesome controller later. 8: Not much of a complaint in my book 7: Sigh, this is embarrassing even for Xbox fans. 6: This stuff is both funny and cringe worthy. 5: It’s sad what’s been happening to Rare. Let’s hope they can do better. 4: Get my hammer so I can smash them bloody Kinects. 3: Messing up putting Xbox games on pc. Nuff said. 2: ‘Twas a dark time for Xbox fans. Fortunately it’s gotten better. 1: The Red Ring of Doom.
You think those Kinect launch games were bad? Try playing Dragon Ball Z Kinect. Seriously it's one of the worst games in the Dragon Ball Z lineup and on Kinect.
The opening joke for #1 just slayed me for some reason. It's just funny hearing Josh call the Xbox 360 a brick while sounding like some old-timey product seller.
That would be Joey Turner (Jasper Pie). He’s a big Power Rangers fan. Fun fact: he wrote the scripts for almost all of the Power Ranger themed videos for WatchMojo.
@matt allen They actually sold pretty well for a launch title. It's sequel was cancelled for unspecified reasons. But Rare and Microsoft were satisfied with the sells they got from it why they originally green lit a sequel in the first place. Probably won't but also plenty of games have come back despite not originally doing well like the Darksiders series or Psychonaunts. So most likely won't but it is also not impossible.
Well, that's what you get for hiring Sans to write your scripts! Though, honestly, I would pay him a hundred bucks an *hour* to slip puns into my scripts! Also, am I the only one who feels bad for that cute little tiger? He keeps tripping on that rope!
@@bulborb8756 yes im happy and never asking Sakurai for anything ever again only to take a stupidly long vacation cause he and the team deserves more than ever now
Another funny one once again. Keep it up, guy and thank you for not mentioning employees being overworked while being underpaid and/or underappreciated this time. Guess that wasn't an issue for Microsoft.
And now Microsoft is going to kill ninja theory. Bleeding edge seems like it was designed by a bunch of crappy tumblr artists to design the characters and then make another overwatch clone
Here's a new one. Truly getting the ball rolling with making physical media for video games extinct (Seriously expecting this to be in the top 5 of the 2024 Fails video BTW)
Rare + Nintendo = the Rare people cared about. Rare - Nintendo? what we've been left with. (should have at least let Nintendo kept the games they owned from them, rip.)
“What we got was another No Man’s Sky. With pirates.” (Watches an Ace the Ocarina Maker Sea of Thieves video) Did Ace and the rest of the world get the same game!?
I already know their #1 fail... Backing out of their deal with Sony to instead deal with Phillips for potential disc technology. Sony reacted by making the Playstation and Nintendo lost market share ever since...
@@WillTBear1 From what I understand, Nintendo had no choice but to back out of their deal with Sony. I believe the original deal was gonna end up giving Sony a far bigger cut than Nintendo could feasibly allow or something like that. Yeah, backing out created their biggest opponent since Sega (speaking of, there needs to be a top 20 Sega fails. 10's to small of a number ), but Nintendo couldn't afford the alternative either.
@@GalaxyStar99 To be fair when it comes to taking down fan projects, in some cases Nintendo's actions were understandable. For example, that Metroid fangame that was taken down. Not to long after if I'm not mistaking, Nintendo released their own remake of Metroid 2 so it does make sense that they wouldn't want a fangame out of a game that they themselves were developing.. If a top 10 list of Nintendo fails is made, I hope Josh isn't to harsh if Nintendo's reasoning did make sense. 'Cause, I mean, they certainly have done a lot of things that pissed off fans, but in some cases, it probably was justifified.
Are you talking about the first Xbox, or all the Xboxes in general? Because the Xbox 360 had things like Tales of Vesperia and Lost Odyssey on it (Really hoping that gets a remaster someday). But yeah, JRPGs are not a good fit for Xbox, especially considering how those systems never sell in Japan.
the red ring of death was the bane of players in the early 2000's i remember my 360 red ringing a lot and having to use a temporary fix to get it working again...you all know what fix im talking about the one where you rap a towel around your console and let it run for a bit turn it off and then back on again to get it to start working again only to red ring again a few days later...and what sucked was it was the only console i could get my hands on that allowed me to go online with my friends so i had to just deal with it
had the same red ring of death issue, but I fixed it by disassembling the console and replacing the thermal compound, CPU/GPU bracket, and the system fan to get it working again.
"Nintendo has Mario & Link, Sony has Kratos & Solid Snake" ....dude. Snake is a 3rd party character not a Sony mascot. You need another example of Sony mascots ( albeit dead ones since Sony apparently hates keeping good IPs around for long ) there's Ratchet & Clank, Parappa the Rapper, Cole McGrath, Needles Kane/SweetTooth, Sly Cooper....
I think the only reason we put up with them (for now) is them finally letting Banjo & Kazooie into Smash As for another list, how about 'top five games that were saved by mods'?
I mean it's not like they were using them. According to certain copyright laws that means they give up their rights to them if they don't do anything with them for too long.
It's more than that, it's just the fact that they've been better with customer support than sony. When the red ring of death happend, they tried to refund or send new consoles to customers and tried to fixed it in later versions. Sony would probally say "sucks to sucks" unless it hits them big time.
The description from South Park creators of the Smart Glass, reminds me of how I feel about 90% of tech out there. I'm fine with the few devices that I use regularly, getting another situational device (such as a phone) just adds more things to keep charged.
10. At least we got some laughs about it. (Thank you, Trey Parker.) Although i think that's the Smartglass' entire purpose. 9. Behold kids, the controller version of some random giant's sh*t! 8. To be fair, i don't really care much about Halo. Then again, i'm indonesian so... 7. Can't wait for Xbox one x Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey HD Remix and Knuckles Ultimate with Funky mode 6. Sooo basically a sh*t pot of total irrelevance. 5. Laughing stocks be like (get it? It's a pun based on stocks. Haha... ha... disappointed?) 4. Congratulations, Microsoft, you made Miyamoto for the first time in forever not smile. Hope you like compensating for thousands of dead puppies! 3. Welp, good thing i was there when the Windows 10 shop was a thing. 2. Really like the Harry Potter opening. 1. Red ring of death? More like f**king ring ring ring
@@luigissidekick861 Nintendo is my favorite company as well and is probably the most wholesome out of all the others josh made lists for but even I admit that sometimes I question on some decisions they make😆😲😰
Sounds like Silverquill got a hold of the script. I think the company I would like to see you do a fails list for the most would be Square Enix. Square might have made some of the best/most iconic games of all time, but OH BOY have they made some big mistakes.
FrankenXANA poor management being the reason why many games TAKE NEARLY 2 DECADES TO MAKE Should be number 1, you know exactly the 3 games I'm referring to, ff7 remake, ffxv and kh3
OK, so you've done Sony fails and now Microsoft fails... That leaves only Nintendo for companies in the console wars. That'll be an interesting one for sure.
@@larrychilders6599 And we all know their horrible management of the Sonic IP will be number 1. I can't think of anything any worse that they've done...
10:36 while I can agree that the game is pretty empty at launch, it did get better with age, so much so, that streamers like Welyn and pace22, are playing game for youtube and twitch content
I remember Angry Joe getting pissed off at the Xbox One reveal. I find it no wonder he got a PS4 along with an Xbox One. The Xbox One reveal sure made a bunch of people who were Xbox 360 fans go get a Playstation 4 instead of the Xbox One. The Kinect was mainly good for dancing games and almost nothing else. I watched Angry Joe's reviews and most of the games for Kinect had unresponsive reading movement that only works when it wants to.
Here's an idea. It's a bit of a stretch but an idea none the less: TOP 10 NINTENDO FAILS!!! There might be some good material to talk about when it comes to the couple of things Nintendo did poorly when it comes to gaming. I am not saying they are terrible. All I am saying is that this might be a good topic for another countdown in the future. What does everyone think? I would like to know. 🔥😁
